Chapter 1 ~ten years ago~ My small hands shook as I stacked colourful blocks on top of one another. Red, blue, red, blue, green. I grinned to myself, tugging on the end of my long, curly black hair. My foster father smiled calmly at me, but I knew this was the last day. The last day before being sent off, being detained into a building where I would spend the next 13 years of my life. He lifted me up, running his hands down my scarred arms and then kissing each of them in turn. Before I was taken into foster care, my mother had abused me for years. Called me the child she never wanted. Blamed it all on my father. I blinked, trying to get rid of the memory. It was time to move on. Forget about sissy Sadie. Become a young, smart, Sadie Alexander. ~present day~ "If you want to hide a tree, you place it in a forest. But hiding a child, you choose a school." My smile was wide as I weaved my way though the crowded hallways, pushing my black glasses onto the bridge of my nose. 15 year old and feeling all the better for it. My scars faded, my self esteem and intelligence grew, I had become the perfect person. Even so, achieving that, I noticed how dumb everyone else around me was. I combed my dark curls over my shoulders as I walked from the crowded school grounds. My phone buzzed. 'You shouldn't be skipping school again Sadie.-GL' I chuckled to myself as I saw who it was. Greg bloody Lestrade. He rescued me from my mothers home so naturally he thought he had a claim on me. My reply was swift, and curt. 'Its only 5 lessons. Stop worrying.- SA' I headed down the Main Street, sighing softly as my phone buzzed yet again. I ignored it until I stopped at my favourite chippy, knowing I needed to get some food into my skinny frame. 'I have your lunch ready-GL' A small smile crossed my lips as I pushed opened the door, seeing Greg already there. "Is this going to be every Monday?" I sat down opposite him. He pushed over a container with a small amount of chips in. Taking off the lid, I dug in. "Well, seeing as it is my day off and you especially seem to hate them, I'll say yes." He reached out and took my hand but pulled away just before he made contact. He pulled out his phone and I sighed deeply. "It's him again. Isn't it?" Sherlock Holmes, the man with the funny hat. A consulting detective. An annoyance in my side. Greg nodded and got up. "He has just got some information for me. You want to come with me?" Startled, I gasped. He'd never, ever invited me to come with him, defiantly not on a school day. I got up and crossed my arms. "You had me at information." -John- Sherlock was so focused on a new case that he didn't notice me even enter the flat. He only moved to adjust the microscope and to text someone on his phone. "What do you want for dinner?" I asked and ran a hand though my hair. I had just had a terrible day at work and sherlock wasn't going to be talking. Amazing. "I don't eat when I'm on cases. Digesting slows me down." He muttered, low tones strangely calming. "Greg is coming over in a moment. Make some tea." Oh. Bossy sherlock was about. With one last sigh, I clicked on the kettle and sank into my seat, hoping something would be able to occupy my idle mind. (Sorry it's short. If you find it interesting ill carry it on.
