First Impressions Starters

Melanie stopped playing with the yo-yo. "The...wait, how exactly am I well known?" Melanie asked. Her mind raced, trying to remember if this woman was someone who she'd caught cheating with a married man, or something similar. She hadn't been working as a PI that long, so she thought she'd remember her, and her mind was drawing a blank.

She put the yo-yo on her desk. "If you need me for a case, I'm listening."

Sadie was actually relieved to hear the girl's parents were nearby. She hoped she didn't look suspicious talking to the girl.

Her thoughts cleared as the girl asked about a book. "No, I don't think I know that one" Sadie said. Her mind searched. Something about the title triggered a memory deep, but she couldn't place it. "I prefer books with happier endings." She wasn't about to discuss the work she did for the FBI with a little girl, but even before joining the FBI, she preferred good endings.

"I only read kids' books when I was your age" Sadie said with a slight laugh.

“Oh, you should definitely try it!” Cara replied. “It does have a happy ending - I promise. Or you could read Sense and Sensibility; I’m reading that to my sister right now. But any book by Jane Austen is good, and all of them have happy endings. Except Sandition, because she didn’t actually finish it.” Then the woman commented that she only read kids’ books when she was her age, and her brow furrowed in confusion as she contemplated what she said. Finally, she responded, her words genuine as she asked, “What are kids’ books? I’m a kid. And I’m buying North and South - it’s a special copy, so I’ve been saving up for months - and I’m going to take it home and read it again so... Doesn’t that make it one?”

"Maybe I will" Sadie replied to make the girl happy. In truth, she doubted she would, but didn't want to disappoint the girl. "Oh, I have read some of Jane Austen. Not until I was a little older, though" she smiled.

Sadie was thrown for a loop. She glanced around to see if the girl's parents were coming. If it went on much longer, she might go looking for them herself. "Little books, Dr. Seuss, short books you can finish in 20 minutes. Or at least something like Nancy Drew. I loved Nancy Drew growing up. But I suppose if you like these books, you're fine."

Around the House

Everybody lives in an apartment in their main verses (well, only ones for Lily and Melanie unless I do an AU), though the type of apartments is different.

Sadie- Sadie lives in a relatively spacious apartment. She has some blue in the apartment, particularly blue curtains. A few plants, all fake, because she's not good at keeping real ones alive, not helped by the fact she sometimes has to travel on short notice and can be gone for several days. She has a few pictures of her family scattered around. Probably a couple of inspirational/Christian/church type decorations like Bible verses.

Lily- Lily's apartment is nice, but pretty small. She's paid well considering her age, but she also lives in Silicon Valley, one of the most expensive places to live on Earth. She has some video game related decorations, such as some Nintendo character plushies. Especially Yoshi, her favorite. There's a few surfing things around, because she does surf sometimes. An old surfboard she doesn't really use hangs up on the wall. She does have one or two plants, real unlike Sadie's, and Lily likes flowers, perhaps befitting her name. She has a good entertainment and tech setup because that's a big interest of hers.

Melanie- Melanie lives in a cheaper apartment in the city, not so bad she worries about getting caught in a drug shootout or anything like that, but it's a bit on the rough side, especially compared to Sadie and Lily's places. It's somewhat on the small side, with the hallways outside cramped. She has a few butterfly decorations because she likes butterflies, some stuff with Philadelphia sports teams, particularly the Eagles. Her short hallway has a couple of cheap paintings she liked for the "aesthetics" and along with the butterfly decorations, "so people don't look at the sports stuff and just assume it's a guy's apartment."

Sadie- Yes, to the point of almost arrogance about it. Vanity is one of her bigger flaws.

Melanie- She believes she is reasonably attractive, not beautiful but she thinks she looks good enough.

Lily- She hears she's "cute" a lot. She's unsure about herself. She wishes she had more curves, as she has a very petite figure.

Is your muse ticklish?

Sadie- Yes on her feet and sides.

Melanie- Her sides are incredibly ticklish. Her stomach, neck, and feet are somewhat ticklish.

Lily- She's pretty ticklish over a lot of her body.

What items are found on your muse's bedside table?

Sadie- Lamp, alarm clock, phone, old teddy bear.

Melanie- Alarm clock, sleep mask, gun.

Lily- Alarm clock, tablet, lamp, picture of her with her siblings, Yoshi plushie (she loves Yoshi, the Nintendo character).

If you had to get your muse a birthday or Christmas present, what would be the best present for them?

Sadie- Gift card for clothes. If you know her and her style very well she might trust you to buy actual clothes for her.

Melanie- Philadelphia Eagles t-shirt. Women's medium. Other Philly sports teams are acceptable.

Lily- Gift card for video games or some other tech/electronic stuff. Or a specific one if she's told you.

What type of person is your muse romantically/sexually attracted to?

Sadie- A guy who's athletic, has some sense of adventure, confident without being cocky, has a nice side. Able to let her vent if she needs.

Melanie- She likes some confidence, a guy who knows what he wants, or is at least moving in that direction. Protective of her but not overbearing, since she can take care of herself. Good shape, looking good shirtless is a plus. Like Sadie, needs to be able to let her vent sometimes, probably more often than Sadie.

Lily- I'm still working on this one a bit, but I can say she likes nice guys, probably someone a little more outgoing than her, who can realize when she needs time to herself.

What type of swimsuit/beachwear does your muse prefer for visiting the beach?

Sadie- Usually bikinis, though especially as she gets older, they tend to be more full-coverage almost sports style, as she occasionally plays volleyball or otherwise runs around on the beach. She was a little more daring with her swimsuit styles when she was about college age.

Melanie- A two-piece, either one with a top somewhat similar to a sports bra or a tie-on style.

Lily- It depends on what she's planning to do. She wears a one-piece if she's just going to lay around or swim a bit. However, she likes to surf, and she tends to wear a bikini under a wetsuit then (she mostly surfs in northern California and the water is cold).

Has your muse ever been captured or kidnapped?

Nobody has truly been kidnapped. Melanie was jumped on the street and assaulted once as a teenager.

Sadie was "kidnapped" by friends for a birthday once.

Does your muse get frightened easily?

The short answer is no for everyone in general, though it works a bit differently for all of them.

Sadie- FBI training means she has to have some nerves of steel. Unless spiders are around. She herself admits she'll stare down a serial killer but scream if she sees a spider.

Melanie- She'll jump at jumpscares sometimes, though she punched at least one person trying to jumpscare her before she thought about what she was doing. Melanie also doesn't like spiders, though she's not quite as scared as Sadie.

Lily- She's usually pretty calm and composed. If she's openly scared, it's usually a situation that it makes sense.

How does your muse act around their crush?

Sadie- Confident and a bit flirty, but not too obvious. That said, she still prefers him to make the first move.

Melanie- If he showed interest in her first, she's very confident. If she's making the first move, she's a bit less confident unless he's given strong signs he's into her.

Lily- Very shy and awkward. She'll be giggly if he's talking to her in any kind of flirty way and tends to talk rapidly and nervously.

"You want to go camping?" the Doctor asked, "Like, in a tent? I suppose that sounds like the perfect summer activity. Yes, we can do that." The Doctor always took Sadie's suggestions seriously and it did sound like it could be fun, so the Doctor walked over to the TARDIS console and began to program coordinates. "I found a good campsite," he told her and then pulled the last lever for the TARDIS to take off, landing just moments later.

"Sure!" Sadie exclaimed. "As long as you don't take me to some planet with giant spiders." She shuddered at the thought. "I still have nightmares about that one cave we got stuck in." And she would never let the Doctor forget it.

She took a seat, though the trips were always a matter of seconds. Sometimes she almost wished they would last a little longer. "So, where are we?"

What kind of video games would your OC enjoy if they were in our reality?

Sadie plays video games sporadically. She had a Game Boy growing up she primarily played on trips. She mostly plays games she can play with someone else. She was pretty good at Mario Kart in her younger days.

Melanie has very limited experience with video games.

Lily, though, is a big gamer. She plays a lot of games. Growing up, she was into Nintendo games, especially Mario and Zelda. Some games/series I've played I think adult Lily would also like are Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Red Dead Redemption. She probably still plays the occasional Nintendo game, but not as much as she did when she was a girl.

"Happy Birthday Sadie," the Doctor told her, offering out a hug.

Sadie's Birthday- May 6

Sadie knew the Doctor would show up, as he had for the last couple of birthdays. Being able to manipulate time helped out a lot.

"Thank you!" she said, opening the door to her apartment wider and accepting the hug. "Come on, a few friends were over not 15 minutes ago so you either timed it well or just poorly. I have some cake if you want a slice, but you can't eat too much of my cake" she smiled.

"What kind of cake it is?" the Doctor asked as he followed her inside. "I hope you got a few good birthday gifts as well," he told her and pulled out a small box of candy for her.

"Chocolate. The only kind of cake you should have for your birthday" Sadie said, cutting off a couple of slices. It was over half gone now as she put one on a plate for each of them. "A few. Gift cards, makeup, a spa day. A pair of earrings from my parents." She took a bite of her cake and stopped when she saw the candy. "What kind is it?" she asked excitedly.

"It's just some chocolates," he told her, "A fancy kind of chocolates, I think. I'm not entirely sure. You know how I am about Earth things like that."

"Just some chocolates?" Sadie repeated. "That's the best kind! Fancy or cheap, I'm not too picky. Well...I'm not the biggest fan of dark chocolate, but I'll eat it."

She started digging into it. It did appear to be fancier than Reese's or the kind she might find in a gas station. "You want one?" she asked, holding up the box to him.

"It can be annoying sometimes, but I don't want monotony, to do the same things, day after day with no changes for 25 years" Sadie said. "Research can be fun, but it can also get tedious when you're having to go through hours of files or evidence to find the one little thing that could break a case. Paperwork, there's way too much paperwork when you work a government job. Worst part of any case" she laughed. A bit more seriously, she added "Okay, not as bad as seeing the victims. But at least I feel like I can help them, or their families."

She shook her head. "You're not. I don't recommend getting drunk if you haven't been. I had fun at the time, but was probably fortunate not to have anything worse than a bad hangover happen."

"That's a lot of walking." Sadie resisted the urge to say it was why Cara was so skinny. A few years earlier, she would've probably blurted it out without hesitation. "I like walking and doing some hiking. I'm a city girl at heart, but I do like getting out in the woods, nature trails, things like that. Do you do that?"

“Whereas that’s exactly what I want. I want to look ahead and be able to see 25 or 30 or 40 years down the road, and know that they’re - more or less - going to be the same,” Cara replied before a soft huff of air escaped her lips, “If I could, I would happily do your research and your paperwork. Which isn’t to say that I don’t do a fair amount at the store, but research was practically my life before I started working there. I miss getting lost in it for days or even weeks on end.” Then Sadie added that all of the paperwork that came with her job wasn’t as bad as seeing the victims, but at least she felt like she could help them and their families. That had Cara falling silent for a long beat before assuringly nodding, “I know their families appreciate it, not just you trying to solve their cases but... honoring their loved ones.” After that, she was clearing her throat, “Think I’m past that stage in life anyway. And it can be, plus I’m on my feet a lot at work. There’s a lot of research and paperwork, but there’s also a lot of stocking and cleaning.” Sadie then spoke of hiking, of getting out into the woods and doing nature trails before asking if she did anything like that, and she shook her head, “No, I’m a city girl, too - and a clumsy one at that. I’d much rather sit out among the trees with a book than attempt a hike.”

Sadie laughed. "I don't mind the research, most of the time, although it can get tedious. Looking through stacks of files for that one little clue that will make a case break will drive you insane. Paperwork, I'd give to you in a heartbeat if the FBI allowed it."

She got more serious as well and nodded. "That's really why you do the job. It can be soul-crushing if you lose focus on that." They weren't supposed to get emotional over cases, but they were just human. And Sadie had been told more than once by some doing the job longer than her the day she didn't feel some emotions was the day she needed to quit before she lost that bit of humanity.

"You might be surprised how many adults still get drunk at 40, 50 years old. And not necessarily alcoholics, either. But trust me, you don't want to do it. Especially if you have to be up and moving around a lot."

Sadie was hoping to find another friend to do some camping, or at least hiking, with. She might badger Cara if she'd left it open she might be up for some camping, but she seemed to shoot it down. Except one thing. "The woods can be a great place to read a book" she said.
