I know Conquest got his scars and lost his arm due to the Scourge virus, but humor me for a sec, more specifically about the scar...

Since Conquest is isolated and treated like scum so that he's kept in line (i.e. other Viltrumites being scared of him and his instability, so treating him like dirt = the illusion of power over him)

Ignoring the Scourge virus, what if his scars were forcibly kept as a way to demean him? To serve as a permanent reminder that he is "beneath the rest", that he is but an animal to sic on others. To keep the distinction between him and other Viltrumites.

one of my favorite bits in lord of the rings is something the movies didn't really try to do because it's entirely internal, but sam's carrying the ring and it starts trying to do its work on him, so he's having these intrusive visions of himself marching at the head of a vast and terrible army, and he just starts laughing because, me? samwise gamgee? sam gamgee the general sam gamgee the dark lord are you for real? man i just want to go home and do some gardening. and the ring gets frustrated and it starts trying to figure out other stuff that would actually tempt sam and it's finally like, okay, but hear me out: imagine if you could have...A REALLY REALLY BIG GARDEN

You know...

You can enjoy and appreciate a character without having to unequivocally agree with every single thing they do. That's what makes fiction so fun, it's fiction. That's what makes complex, nuanced characters so engaging, because they are not real people

You can find Anissa an interesting character without having to swear by every single thing she does, especially referring to the events of the comics. You are allowed to like bad people who do bad things without having to be a bad person yourself. Hello...*Homelander???*

Homelander is a fan favorite, people go crazy for him on massive scales and it's because they *love* the fact that he is just such an evil, demented piece of shit. Even after gaining understanding of him, he's still a piece of garbage and that's why he's engaging. Yet somehow, with Anissa it's basically heresy to be interested in her character. You get called a rapist and a murderer for expressing even a modicum of interest in her (this is NOT about people who excuse her actions and act weird and gross about her assault of Mark, if you do that you are just trash). Homelander is a rapist too, just like Anissa.

I just don't understand why everything has to be sanitized and gutted, fangs ripped out and declawed for people to feel safe consuming complex media. Stories have been like this for forever, you are not inherently shitty for enjoying shitty characters intended to be shitty people.
