@TheSageTernvi: I was bored. Heather found this highly amusing.
what would you do? | heather & sage
A moment passed before it became clear to Heather that Sage wasn’t going to clear up after herself, and as it had become habit to the girl, she automatically moved to do it for her — moving her shoes to the space under the hallway table and taking her coat in order to hang it up. “I think you’ve got that message reversed, you know,” she said airily. “The usual message is not to bother being anyone else when you can just be yourself. But if ‘yourself’ is a brunette, well, there’s nothing wrong with that.” Tossing her own waves of brown hair over her shoulders as she walked back into the living room, Heather smiled. Her eyes immediately went to the box in Sage’s hands, shortly followed by it being flipped open and one of the sticks from inside it being lit, and she had to swallow the urge to make a remark to Sage about how they would kill her. Such comments would only be responded to with a dry comment about how something else would surely kill her first. Even though she’d grown accustomed to Sage’s sense of humour and, for the most part, appreciated it, Heather didn’t want to think anything like that of her best friend. “You are not that bad,” she said when she mentioned Nate. “I don’t think you could be even if you tried.” Looking between Sage and her cigarette again, Heather began making her way forward, heading into the kitchen to make a cup of tea for herself and her friend. “Did you get anything else while you were out in town?” she called out curiously. “You’re not hiding a bunch of tattoos and piercings under your jumper, are you? It might be just a little bit detrimental to our girly image if you’ve tattooed… I don’t know, skulls and dicks and football players all over your skin.”
Sage watched the girl pick up after her and were she to really properly care, she would've cleaned up after herself, but she really didn't want to bother even if it was Heather and she would do most anything for her. After years of being friends with the girl, Sage knew that Heather would clean up after her, just as she had been after all these years whenever Sage got into or made a mess. It was something she was used to and not even a thought on the matter passed her mind as she watched the girl deal with her stuff. She inhaled the smoke off the cigarette, letting it fill her lungs properly as she listened to the girl, completely unsurprised that she had no qualms to the brown. Sage hadn't expected her to. After all, Heather always seemed to like brunettes and she liked her for some reason so it only made sense that she wasn't going to disapprove of Sage's newfound hair colour. "I'm perfect no matter what the fuck my hair colour is," she said as she breathed out the smoke, shrugging before she leaned back against the wall, and she watched the girl, not really paying attention to any what the girl was doing. She knew Heather disapproved of her smoking but Sage really didn't care and as along as it didn't ruin her voice then it didn't matter. She ignored the comment about Nate even though it was true; she could never be as terrible as him with what he did. Sage quietly watched the girl disappear into the kitchen, chuckling a bit at the thought of covering her body with the anti-girly tattoos that Heather was mentioning and she followed her into the kitchen. "No, none of that, but I did get a portrait of the devil across my stomach, see?" She propped the cigarette in between her lips and pushed her jumper up to expose the pale skin of her stomach before she rolled her eyes. "Now I know what to do for the future, though."

With Sage out of the apartment for the day, Heather had busied herself with cleaning up the place. Ever since the X Factor had finished, the two had decided it would just be easier to stay in London and live together as they pursued a career in music, and even though they had gotten offers, it was clear that their wasn’t enough excitement surrounding them for them to begin recording until after the tour — so until then, they just had to occupy themselves. Sage was terribly messy and Heather hated living in a home that wasn’t spotless, so she constantly took it upon herself to keep their apartment tidy; she was finishing up a few things in her own room when she heard the door open and her best friend’s yell to inform her that she was home. “Just a minute,” Heather called back in response, up-ending the rest of her nail polish bottles into their case and shoving it back into her cosmetics drawer before she left the bathroom and headed out to the kitchen — only to find a slender brunette standing where Sage out to have been. “Whoa,” she said, stunned into having a lack of words as she approached. “You just — wow, Sage, you look… really different.” Heather smiled, openly staring at her friend’s newly coloured hairstyle. She wasn’t sure whether or not she liked it yet but as she kept looking, she decided to herself that dark hair rather suited the other girl, or maybe that was just her own personal penchant for brunets speaking. “I like it,” she added belatedly. “What made you decide to pull that one, then? Are you going through some big lifestyle changes you forgot to tell your old friend about or something like that?”
Listening to Heather, Sage kicked her shoes off and stared at them for a moment, debating between picking them up and putting them under the hall table like she was supposed to and leaving them there. It wasn't even a thought, and she started laughing when she actually considered moving them, surprised that Heather's need for organisation was trying to grow on her. She rifled through her coat a few times before she located the packet of cigarettes just in time to hear Heather's reaction to her hair, and Sage turned, glancing at the girl before she opened the package and pulled out a cigarette. "Different's great," she said before she pressed the cigarette to her lips and kept it there, fumbling through for her lighter. "Isn't that what they always say? Don't bother being you, be someone different? It's some bullshit like that." She dug the lighter out of the package before she buried it back in her coat, knowing that she'd be back looking for it within the hour. Sage had a tendency to chain-smoke around Heather, and while it was nowhere near a good thing, it evened out all the feelings that bounced around inside of her uninvited, trying to get her to say dumb words like 'I love you' and 'why won't you ever look at me?' She flicked the lighter and shrugged a little bit before she lit the cigarette, not really caring that she probably wasn't supposed to smoke in the flat. "Big lifestyle change, yeah, that's it," she said as she looked at the girl. "Next thing you know I'll be chopping it all off and calling myself Nate Ryder." She inhaled the smoke into her lungs, letting the nicotine cleanse her pores and the jittery desires to tell Heather that she'd been more or less in love with her for years, because love didn't exist. Sage decided that when she was eighteen and left with...well, depression didn't exist to her either, but if it did, then she'd call it that. Love wasn't real, and neither were the fluttery-heart symptoms that started up whenever she saw her companion.

Different was all that Sage could really think when it came to the new look. She wasn't really sure what she'd been thinking when she walked into the hair salon and sat down in the chair with one thought on her mind; change. It wasn't that she didn't like being herself, because Sage really didn't give a damn as to what people thought of her. She just wanted to be someone different for a few minutes or hours...or days or weeks... She just wanted to try something new. It had taken far too long at the salon to tell the hairdresser that she wanted to change her hair colour, seeing as it had taken a full twenty minutes for the woman to talk her down from shaving off a large chunk of her hair, not that it was something she'd never done before. Sage had almost laughed when the woman sounded mournful of her decision. "But your pretty blonde hair..." had just seemed like something so daft to say in a situation where it wasn't going to affect the woman's life. Now, here she was, with dark brown hair that kind of washed her out more than it did anything, but when Sage looked in the mirror at the end of the appointment, she looked, well...pretty, and a brief thought crossed her mind about Heather maybe thinking something different of her before she shook it away, paid and left. Now she was pushing her way into the flat she shared with the girl, sighing a bit as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Home!" she called out as she untangled the scarf from her neck and dropped it unceremoniously onto the hallway table, shrugging out of her coat and leaving it there as well, since she had no desire to put it away properly. Keeping organised was Heather's thing. Sage just liked making a mess, and right now all she cared about was finding her package of cigarettes and filling her lungs with a nicotine fog.

He’d only gotten the chance to see it once or twice but it was becoming clear to Nate that without her best friend around, Sage was quite a different person; there was nobody to hold her back from anything and he got the feeling that if he somehow managed to piss her off there would be nothing to stop her from punching him straight in the face. Thankfully, she seemed to be in a better mood than that, which gave him enough confidence to dance with her without fearing for the consequences. They were brought closer together by her hands joining at the back of his neck and even though she was evidently putting actual effort into looking anywhere but at him, Nate wasn’t put off. He knew the song that was playing and liked it, and he was a fairly good dancer despite refusing to go to the traditional dance classes his mother had attempted to put him in when he’d been younger, so it was easy for him to work up to getting closer to the girl. That and it was easier to dance with someone you knew rather than a total stranger, but Nate loved the mystery and excitement that came with entering a club in the heart of London that he’d never been to. A tipsy smile spread over his lips as he danced with Sage, trailing his hands down her sides and settling on her hips. It would suffice to say that anything else he’d been thinking about earlier, like his roommate and whatever they had between them, was completely out of his mind.
You're not extremely terrible. Those were the words that were on the tip of Sage's tongue but ones that she'd never say to the boy she was dancing with because she really didn't care if he knew that or not. Sure, she found him to be annoying and wanted to shove him into a pit and laugh at his misery as he tried to climb out of it, but here in this moment with her body almost pressed up against his, Sage was finding that she didn't really hate him like she thought she would. He was better than the group of perverts in Ignite and while that wasn't really saying much because they were actually disgusting slime who Sage would probably beat up if it weren't for all the cameras everywhere, she could safely say she didn't harbour the same feelings for this idiot. Nate to her was like an annoying puppy, one that was too eager and just wanted everyone's attention and it got tiresome but Sage found that she could ignore those feelings right here on the dance floor. Someone pressed into her from behind, bumping her towards the boy and a complaint rose in her throat but faded as she found herself against Nate, the warmth of his body soaking into her skin and Sage sucked in a breath. She glanced at the boy, looking at him for a moment before she glanced out towards the exit of the club and considered just calling a night of it but the thought quickly faded as she let out a laugh. She was Sage Ternvi and she never left a club until she was good and ready to do so, so instead she just tightened her grip on the boy and tried to ignore the desire to run her fingers through his hair and trace the angles of his body because that wasn't happening. She didn't like him that much.

Another laugh was drawn from Nate when Sage pushed his shoulder roughly, causing him to stumble; he didn’t fall, though, instead managing to right himself by grabbing onto a stranger’s arm and using the leverage to straighten himself up. The music only seemed to grow louder as he and Sage were pulled further into the crowd of dancers, having to move with them in order to fit in without being pushed over, but somehow the situation only amused Nate. His smile was a wide one of exhilaration by the time he managed to catch up with Sage, followed after her flash of bright blonde hair until he’d joined her in the little gap she’d found for herself to dance in. For a couple of seconds, he remained still to simply look at her, brown eyes scanning her figure and appreciating the way her dress clung to her every curve before he moved up to dance with her. “Hey again,” he called over the music, fighting the solution of alcohol and adrenaline that had overtaken his bloodstream so that he could stay in time with the beat as he listened to the music and danced to it, slowly getting closer to the girl as the song progressed.
Whether it was due to the freedom of being able to dance in a club and not have to worry about Heather being there to ruin it by pulling her away before she pressed herself up against some random stranger and practically fucked him on the floor or the extra drink that she'd had but Sage didn't find herself minding that Nate was basically attaching himself to her. In the loud club with the pounding music and the bright lights, Sage was comfortable, happy, and when she'd found Nate pressed up against her halfway through the song thanks to the packed dance floor and the boy's eagerness, she didn't push him away. Sure, she wasn't a big fan of the boy and his cockiness rubbed her the wrong way, but Sage didn't hate him and in her nicely buzzed state she found that her thoughts of him being fucking attractive was a little bit nicer than normal. Sage lifted her arms up and dropped them onto his shoulders, linking her fingers behind his neck because if she had to dance with someone pressed up against her, she might as well dance with him rather than next to him. She glanced at the boy but really focused her gaze elsewhere for the most part because she didn't really feel like admitting that she'd rather focus on staring at him more often.

“Nope, not kidding. It’s really me.” Nate laughed, draping his arm around Sage’s shoulder and leaning against her side. He hadn’t yet worked out why it was that he got the impression she didn’t like him all that much; Heather seemed to like him fine, but she was overall a more accommodating person than Sage. The nicer one of the two, in his opinion. “I’m definitely legal,” he added, and squeezed her shoulder with his fingers. “Why, have you been thinking about my age or something? Cute.” Another laugh passed his lips as he released her to take one of the drinks that had been served to them, lifting it to take a swig. Alcoholic content or not, in his semi-hazy mind it was cool and refreshing and exactly what he needed — it only took him a moment to finish it and set the glass back down, turning to Sage with a wide grin and glittering eyes. “Dance with me,” he suggested, leaning against her once more as though that would sway her opinion.
Sage was not fond of the way that Nate was touching her, at least not at the moment with his arm slung around her shoulders and his body pressed against hers. Maybe in another instance this would be tolerable, but right now she was pressed against the bar and not a fan of having a body pinning her to it. "Oh yes, that's all I've been thinking of," she replied, the sarcasm heavily laced in her voice and let out a sigh of relief when drinks appeared and the boy let go of her. She watched the way the boy seemed to practically inhale his drink and rolled her eyes a little as she looked at him, torn between amused and annoyed by his existence. She was leaning a bit more towards amused until his body was pressed back up against hers again and she pushed him off of her before she rolled her eyes. "What the hell," she mumbled before she took the drink that she'd purchased and downed it, turning to focus on the boy for a moment before she grabbed onto his shoulder and pushed him towards the dance floor, following close behind in the crowded room until she found somewhere that at least provided a little room to breathe and began to dance without waiting for the boy to join her.
