Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
it's very out of this world experience to be reading an online discussion about how the prison system ruined someone's life and there's a comment that's like "whoever allowed this should go to jail" like what a galactic way to miss the point
anyone on this little corner of the internet lives or knows someone who lives in valladolid spain?
i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
the idea that every summer will be as hot if not hotter than this for the rest of my life is unbearable i need to (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) murder an oil executive
gotta admit it's p funny spiderman was selling his own photos to his #1 hater

My brothers lost years of education because of the war in Gaza.
Now they finally have a chance to continue.

I find GTA as a franchise to be a dumb walking crime simulator fantasy for men but now Imma be an even bigger hater for how the company is going to set new precedents for the big triple A companies because everyone is eating up their announcements and prices in a very obsessive fanboy manner
No physical disc, the physical edition comes with a plastic cartridge with a code written inside
Base edition? 80$
Oh you don't wanna buy the 100$ deluxe edition? Sorry, several stores and customisation in game will be locked then :) you know, for a 80$ base game you already own?
No proper gameplay reveal before preorders dropped; congrats you're buying a concept based off cinematic trailers
And you know what the fans do when other fans are bringing up that this is a shit behaviour and it'll influence the market for all other games? They start insulting them and calling them broke
"Not my fault you don't have an extra 20$ to get the ultimate edition for this HISTORICAL game"
Historical my ass, also having to pay 80$ for a base game is insane, and being locked out of game areas for not paying for ultimate is even crazier. Everyone seems to have forgotten the super greedy "we should've made people pay for each minute of play time and each bullet shot" line that a guy from Rockstar said years ago
Get back at AI by drinking two large glasses of water before creating any art.
This is definitely not a trick to get artists to drink more water
if you've ever applied for a job you deserve 50 million dollars in financial compensation
btw where's the john oliver episode about the united states hosting the world cup with a serious face on the thumbnail?
I always think of the description I saw years ago: Self-imposed deadlines don't help me, because I know the person who set them, and they're full of shit.

thinking about the time a former housemate said to me "hey I put these box fans in the living room because it's hot" while gesturing to the fans that I was actively sitting in front of because it was hot. and I said "okay thanks." and she kept standing there like she was waiting for something else so I said "am I blocking the airflow? do you need me to move?" and she said no I'm just letting you know they're here, in the living room, for circulation. and I said well yes, I did put that together. I am enjoying them. thank you. and she looked confused. so I asked "am I meant to do something with this information or are you just informing me?" and she said no I'm letting you know they're here because It's Hot In Here. she seemed a bit aggravated, and her emphasis seemed deliberate.
it took me asking three more times before she finally told me she wanted me to leave the fans where they are instead of moving them to my room or something. and I said oh! I had no intention of doing so but thank you for letting me know what the expectation is.
about a month later she brought up that conversation as the moment it actually clicked for her that I Am Autistic And Will Not Magically Intuit The Unspoken Request You Didn't Ask Me.
I have observed enough allistic communication to know that generally, if somebody points something out to you that you can already see or are already clearly interacting with, they are making an indirect request. but as I don't know what the request is, the only way forward is for me to guess (and likely get it wrong), or prompt the allistic to tell me clearly what they need.
however, allistics don't realize they do this, so asking them to say the unspoken surprises and confuses them. this is not their fault. allistics can be quite emotionally fragile and perceive directness as confrontation, so they habitually rely on indirect speech and coded language to preserve others' feelings. this is why they may find it difficult to be direct, even when asked. I have found that with enough gentle encouragement and reassurance that they are actually helping you, you too can achieve successful communication with your allistic friend or loved one. :)
tbh the arabic dubs for some anime shows made me think there were more female characters in anime than there actually are 💀
Hey all,
In my absence, Eman's village's situation has been getting worse, far far worse. As the fabric of Sudan's medical and other social infrastructures have been destroyed by war and genocide, displaced people are seeing a high risk of disease outbreaks amongst them. This is what Eman's village is currently going through, and her family has been one of many affected by dengue fever.
Eman is scared, alone, and feels like her family's situation is invisible. Please show her that she isn't alone, and that her and her family and her village aren't invisible. Please if you can spare anything, help Eman @emiiii980 out.
