Didn't know this was a needed take, but I agree, let positive people sharing your joy be a positive thing instead of gatekeeping. Pride is a celebration of human diversity in gender and sexuality and gatekeeping goes against it. Share joy with the people around you, it will strengthen the cause, not hurt it.

So we have emergency water at work that we have to keep in stock and in date at all times. We got 70 cases of it on Tuesday and our director said that our maintenance guy would need to move it because it's super heavy and only maintenance have keys for the storage room where it goes.

Our guy is out all week and no one knows this. So today it's still in the kitchen and it needs be moved before truck gets in or there won't be any room for it.

Called maintenance asked the one person there if they knew where it goes and if they had a key. They say yes. We go to a supply room but the water already there isn't expired. Called the chef. She says we need to get the water out of a different supply room on the other side of the hospital.

We go there. Place is a mess. Takes nearly ten minutes to find the old water and moves things out of the way so we can get to it. Pallet driver isn't motorized so we have to push it out together. Accidentally pushed it into a wall at the end of a ramp. We can't pull it back up the ramp. It's stuck. Thanks to a combination of ego and a desire to help there's 4 people pushing this water.

Where does the expired water go? That's right! On the other side of the hospital!

Got it there with no problems. Now we just have to get the new water out of the kitchen. Head maintenance guy says the water is too heavy so we're going to stick the new water in the closer supply closet for now and have his stronger people move it where it needs to be later. Fine

Except not! Because Cafeteria Manager wants to raise a stink about how the new water needs to be in the further closet and that the closer closet needs its water moved to the further closet. Something about emails being sent this morning. You know, 3 days after the water should have been dealt with. Takes the head guy way too long to convince her to let it happen.

We get the water out of the kitchen 20 minutes before the truck arrives and there WAS ANOTHER PALLET OF WATER

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
