open starter:
“m’not drunk. you’re just blurry…. and spinning a little bit. could you stop doing that? it’s making me dizzy.”
“I hate to break it to you, but those are definitely signs of being drunk! are you okay though, do you need help getting somewhere?”
lysslxric:
‘maybe i did, maybe i didn’t - you’ll just have to wait to find out,’ she said with a cold laugh following closely after her words. ‘oh i think you know very well i can’t tell you that, saige, don’t spoil my fun so early in the game,’ alyssa replies with an arbitrary shake of her index finger at the girl who was clearly struggling to keep it together in front of her. this was one of alyssa’s many favourite past-times - torturing people with whatever information they had confided in her to get what she wanted. ‘i want you to swear to me that you won’t tell anyone you know me, and that you won’t say anything about my…connections. my name has been pretty clear so far and i’d like to keep it that way…got it?’
the mystery behind whether or not she leaked the information killed saige inside. her stomach felt as if it were twisting inside of her, giving her a queasy feeling. but the words ‘so early in the game’ drove the nails into her coffin. it was enough to knock the wind right out of her. this was a game for alyssa. saige was under the impression that she was out of lyss’s grasp for good, having come to oxford, when in fact she just fell right back into the girl’s hands. saige looked at the ground. she couldn’t let the information get out -- for the first time or again, she didn’t know. “i won’t tell anyone, i won’t say anything, alyssa,” saige mumbled. she didn’t want to speak loud enough for alyssa to hear her voice shake. “i swear.”
grandets:
“Wouldn’t we all?,” he grinned his eyes fixed on her, observing her. “You look smart, like you know your shit, so I’ll go with that. Or am I wrong?”
Saige didn’t know how to answer the question. It seemed like a compliment, sure, but included at the end was a question. She decided to agree. “Thank you, I am smart,” she hesitated, questioning whether or not it sounded cocky. Then, continued, “But not just any smart person can be on the cover of a magazine, let alone Forbes.”
“so i was, like, beyond bored the other night and i decided to start playing ‘dream daddy’ and i’ve had the little theme tune stuck in my head ever since – ’ dreeeeeaaam daddy, dreeeeaaam daddy ( who’s gonna be your, who’s gonna be your dream? ) ’ ”
“i’ve heard that’s an enjoyable game -- but i’m not really familiar with the plot. care to explain it to me?”
grandets:
“My father would say that I’ve got absolutely nothing to be proud of,” he replied, a hint of a smile in his lips. “I bet you’ve got more changes of making it onto the cover of Forbes than I do, though.”
“I would be incredibly proud of being on the cover of a magazine,” Saige felt a little surprised when he mentioned Forbes. She gave him a puzzled look. “I’m not sure why you would think that. Do you even know who I am?”
“My father’s assistant just called,” Hugo sighed, placing his phone in his back pocket. “Guess who just made it into the front page of Le Parisien? And not exactly for my altruism or my brilliant leadership skills.”
“Damn,” Saige said. It was the only thing she could think of saying -- then, “congrats, by the way. I could never imagine making it onto the cover of anything.”
lysslxric:
alyssa’s hazel eyes followed saige’s eyeline carefully, watching it flicker from place to place but refusing to meet her own again. she knew she had the upper hand in this conversation, but the nervousness practically emitting from the other girl was enough to confirm it. ‘don’t talk about what? the fucking truth? because that’s what it is, saige - it’s the truth. and if there’s one thing you need to know about this place it’s that no terrible truth is ever hidden for long. so you best start admitting to it soon.’ she paused for a moment, letting what she had just said sink in. ‘and maybe if you hadn’t been such a pussy bitch about it all i might’ve considered keeping your secret to myself a little longer.’ alyssa hadn’t told a soul about what saige had done, but wasn’t it all the more fun to pretend she had?
saige could feel the color draining from her face as alyssa admitted to telling someone about what they had done. but who she told and if they were connected to oxford, she hadn’t revealed. “you...you told someone?” tears filled saige’s eyes but she looked at the ground so alyssa couldn’t see. she tried to blink the water out of existence. her head reeled with the idea of her secret getting out. “who? who did you tell?” she asked, however she knew that alyssa wouldn’t give up that information. acknowledging this, she quickly then asked, “what do i have to do to keep you from letting this secret out to anyone else? what do you want from me, lyss?”
amaraxnassar:
finally she’d managed to find a decent gym around here. but in all fairness it was the only place that she’d managed to shake her personal security for more than a few moments - especially after what happened back home. so naturally it was amaras favorite place on campus. as usual it mostly quiet save the sound of her punching the bag in front of her however hearing footsteps changed the mood. “that’s what, an hour & a half? I think that might be a new record.” she spoke without looking. amara’s expression changed immediately once he did. “sorry, I had you mistaken for someone else.”
saige didn’t come to the gym that often -- if she were being honest with herself, the only reason why she was there was because of new years. she was yet another person promising to go to the gym more often as a new years resolution. on this gym trip, her second one of the year, she didn’t know what she wanted to do. the sound of someone punching a punching bag intrigued her -- the idea of punching a bag in order to take out reserved emotions excited her. she didn’t know what she needed in order to start that sort of thing, but she walked into the area anyway. a girl started talking to her and saige was confused for a moment until the girl apologized. “oh, no worries,” saige put her hands in her sweatpants pockets. “do you use these often? I’m very interested in starting to uh -- punch these things, i guess.”
lysslxric:
alyssa knew that the girl was probably lying, but lucky for saige, she couldn’t quite be bothered to call her out about it. so instead, she just played along. ‘i suppose you want give me this new number. no mind, i’m sure if i really needed it there are plenty of people on this campus who could get it for me,’ she said casually, but her words were little more than a thinly veiled threat. you’ll never get rid of me was what had been said between the lines of her casual comment. ‘don’t play dumb, you know exactly what i’m talking about. however if you truly can’t remember i always have the security footage to prove you’re not as innocent as you make yourself out to me.’ she quirked an eyebrow at the girl before continuing. ‘and you should be. i don’t like being ignored.’
the way that alyssa was speaking to her created butterflies in her stomach. it was almost threatening -- and if saige was being honest with herself, she was terrified. she no longer looked into alyssa’s eyes, she looked behind the girl, then at the floor. for whatever reason she thought that looking into lyss’s eyes for too long would turn her into stone. but when alyssa brought up the robbery, saige immediately brought her gaze back to her. “lyss -- alyssa, don’t. please. please don’t talk about that here.” then saige looked at the ground, staring at the little marks in the pavement. neither of them had changed.
lysslxric
a dark chuckle came from between alyssa’s lips at the other girls meagre reply to her. despite having recovered from the shock of the collision, lyss remained inside saige’s personal bubble knowing full well how intimating it probably looked - and felt for the other girl. ‘well now you know, don’t you?’ she replied as she watched the girl pick up her notebook and clutch it to her chest. she grinned at the grip saige had on the book, as though somehow 90 pages of lined paper were going to save her from the wrath that was alyssa. ‘i’m sure you didn’t. tell me, did you change your number or did you just ignore those texts i sent you all those years ago? i thought we were friends, saige. best friends. but clearly i was wrong.’ seeing the young girl again had been a blast from the past, surely, but had also managed to reignite the sense of betrayal she had felt all those years ago when saige had skipped out on their friendship. ‘you still keeping up with that quiet innocent facade? or have you finally admitted to yourself how corrupt you really are?’
everything in saige’s head screamed for her to tell the girl off, to tell her the truth -- that she had ignored all of her texts from years ago, but again, she blurted out something far from the truth. “i got a new number...” she said. it wasn’t entirely false, but it wasn’t the reason why she didn’t text the girl back. she had gotten the new number a few years later, right before coming to oxford in an effort to hopefully never be in contact with lyss ever again. but lyss’s words hurt her. the accusation of a facade and being corrupt. she was neither of these things -- she couldn’t be. “i-i didn’t know what you’re talking about. i’m sorry for not texting you back...”
alyssa was late - again. and it was to her least favourite class with her least favourite professor. so needless to say she was stressed and distracted when she had run into the other girl. at first, she didn’t even notice who it was, but the familiar jacket piqued her curiosity and on looking up, she was faced with none other than saige pratt. “well, well, well if it isn’t the ghoster,” she said with an undercurrent of bitterness in her tone. “long time, no see, saige.”
@saige-pratt
saige’s class having dismissed twenty minutes before, she sauntered on her way back to her dorm building. she was a little distracted, thinking about how she would organize her time for the rest of the day and therefore didn’t notice the girl in front of her. it wasn’t until the two collided that she was aware of her presence. but running into some girl was no inconvenience to saige, she only dropped a notebook on the ground, but didn’t feel angry that they had collided. but it wasn’t until she had gotten a good look at the girl that she realized it was her. alyssa. for a moment, saige thought that she had to be a look-alike, there was no way that saige had chosen the same university as alyssa. however, when the girl spoke, her words confirmed her identity. before she could think of something to say -- something along the lines of ‘go away’, as she had practiced in the mirror millions of times, saige blurted out, “lyss? i didn’t know you went to oxford.” she bent down and picked up her notebook and clutched it to her chest as if it were some sort of protection against the other girl. “i didn’t think i’d see you again...”
windscr:
four (or five, who even knew at this point) champagne flutes down, and the young princess was practically buzzing. after years of non-stop black tie balls, she’d learnt to balance the fine line between getting drunk and yet, appearing sober. “you know what the best part about these formals are?” she asked her conversation partner, lifting the glass to meticulously painted petails, her eyebrows arching slightly. “someone is bound to mess up. and my vote is on all those who showed up in cocktail attire. i mean, if you couldn’t even bother to read the invitation properly, i don’t have high hopes for you.”
having heard the girl speak in front of her about cocktail attire, saige decided in an impulsive act to cut into the conversation. she wouldn’t have normally done this, in fact, she would’ve walked away having heard this if she hadn’t had a mask on, but she decided to at least somewhat defend her dress choice. “maybe those who chose cocktail attire decided to ignore the invitation’s instructions -- for any number of reasons. which, that, to me, is quite bold,” she said. “not to say that’s what I did, but that could be an explanation for the rest of them.”
celestexs:
“So I guess this is the wallflower section?” Celeste stated as she stood at the side of the ballroom, staring into the abyss of the red wine which was in the glass. Her red dress was a bold choice for her and the mask covered her face so no one could tell who she was. It was the small decisions such as these that made her feel confident.
saige looked over at the girl, who was also wearing a red dress. she thought it was funny how, though both were wearing the boldest color, they were both standing at the side of the ballroom. “I suppose it is the wallflower section,” she said, offering the girl a small smile. “I haven’t exactly figured out where to start at this formal, other than taking some alcohol.” she lifted her glass slightly higher in the air. “I’m already getting weird looks for this cocktail dress ensemble.”
