Okay, I have a well structured essay coming on this at some point but for now I have to get this off my mind.

I want more kunikida and Dazai partnership and I am convinced the only reason people prefer soukoku is because of the anime’s poor adaptation of Dazai’s entrance exam.

So many people have devalued kunikida, who was supposed to be one of the main characters, in favor of Chuuya who is meant to be part of Dazai’s past.

Kunikida and Dazai play off of each other and reflect one another in a way Soukoku can only dream of, and their relationship is a core part of each of their characters. Mersault was such a perfect opportunity to create a narrative foil not only with the plot of Dazai’s entrance exam but to expand on Kunikida’s character by putting him directly against fyodor.

Not to mention that putting Dazai with Chuuya undermines his growth and change as a person and character.

It is very explicit in the light novel that Dazai cares for Kunikida, and that they are perfect partners for one another.

I want to see more of them in the main manga, but there needs to be more demand for them. Please give them some love. Asagiri has stated before that he wants to write them together more.

I've said this before, and it's something I still 100% stand by: Most SKK fans don't really want SKK's actual dynamic, they want Kunizai's dynamic but with Chuuya instead of Kunikida.

I agree with you OP, but I'd like to add that it's not just the anime's poor adaptation of Entrance Exam, its the anime's abysmal portrayal of Kunikida's character in general including his relationship with Dazai; both their past relationship in Entrance Exam, and also their current one with Studio BONES changing a decent amount of scenes with them together for no good reason, or just removing scenes entirely.

The reason people prefer SKK and Chuuya is… well… Chuuya is a short twink who was specifically designed to have as mass appeal as possible by request of the manga editor. I GUARANTEE if the series stuck to Harukawa's original concepts for Chuuya he would not be anywhere near as popular as he is now.

People excuse Chuuya's short temper because he's conventionally attractive to a wide audience, whereas people demonize Kunikida's short temper because they don't find him as appealing. Chuuya is short so his temper seems less threatening, Kunikida is very very tall so he's seen as more oppressive. 

Chuuya is to Dazai what Katai is to Kunikida, a side character whose narrative purpose is to flesh out the backstory of the main character they're connected to. 

Asagiri put so much effort into finely crafting Kunizai's relationship not only with each other, but how they parallel each other in the other dynamics they have in the series. You can even see that with BEAST where even tho they're never together, the way they parallel each other with their influence on Atsushi and Akutagawa. Kunikida in BEAST is SO CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED! He is one of the most important characters in BEAST and I really really need to dig into him eventually… but I almost never see anyone wanting to discuss BEAST Kuni in the wider fandom, but people love trying to discuss and theorize about BEAST Chuuya even tho he is in like one scene

the concept of kunikida's ideals being entirely self made will never not be funny to me. like okay 'rule-following' my ass. this man canonically hates authority and sure he's organized but he also technically does whatever he wants whenever he wants like 80% of the time because he himself came up with his ideals.
