Music Spotlight: SAINT BODHI
Saint Bodhi tapped into her songwriting ability at an early age. After pursuing a career in music at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, Bodhi became known as a reputable songwriter, collaborating with A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith and DJ Snake to name a few. Bodhi’s genre-blending talents and unique style are ready to be heard on her upcoming debut album. Check out what she had to say.
What led you to songwriting and wanting to pursue a career in music?
I don’t think anything really led me to songwriting. It was more so songwriting was always kind of ingrained in me and throughout the years I’ve just learned to develop it more and get more comfortable with voicing my point of view of the world. My biggest musical inspirations are artists like Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, and Kurt Cobain.
You’ve already worked with a plethora of amazing artists - who are some of your dream collaborations?
I wouldn’t be mad if the Gods got me in the studio with Frank Ocean or Donald Glover. I love how powerful and authentic their music and lyrics are. You can tell they are saying exactly what’s on their mind and that is what I want people to take away from my music when they listen.
Tell us about MAD WORLD and what you hope people take away from it.
The easy answer would be, ‘I want people to see the world through my eyes’, but it’s deeper than that. There are a lot of things that people go through or that we think about, but are scared to say it because of being judged. I think people will be able to take away different things from it and relate. You are going to listen and be like, “Yooo, I’ve thought that before, get out of my head Bodhi!” or “I’ve been through that same exact thing!” How many times have you thought about doing something crazy and wanted to say it out loud, but was scared to? Well don’t worry, I got you.
Who and/or what influences your overall aesthetic - from your music to your style to your fashion sense?
I’m moody as fuck. One day, I like all black and another day, I’m wearing pinks and purples and mint green. Keep this between me and you, but I love Urban Outfitters.
In your opinion, what’s the most interesting thing about you that people may not know?
I secretly love country music. And I whistle when I get nervous.
