Disaster lesbian
let's have a smoke break with mama (and question our career choice)
I may have played a certain game...
tabitha scarlet is literally an insane character girlie’s dna is made of mommy issues and old money she is anti-union her diet consists of three (3!) things and those are mac n cheese, pb&j and ice cream and that’s it she is snappy and sour and objectively unpleasant and so fucking tired and lonely her hair is the color of pale greasy butter she once called child labor good old times she didnt survive a homoerotic teenage friendship she is a failwoman and a boss of a literal (but also failing) coal mine who lives in a wet cardboard box (a run-down mansion that is 70% leaks (and probably black mold) and is this close to quite literally falling off a cliff) oh and yeah she is also just straight up fucking haunted—
Tabitha's relationship with Stella is representative of her relationship with the town—with control in general. Tabitha cares so, so much for Stella, yearns for her—but she's determined that they can never be together because they just have too much baggage. It would be too complicated. Better to stay away, for Stella's sake.
She'll even wingman you if you and her have a good relationship on day four because she wants Stella to be happy! Very happy! She wants the best for this woman! She just wants Stella to live a good life without her.
But that isn't what Stella wants, is it? Stella wants Tabitha. Stella has gotten banned from the mines and still tries to sneak in. She is desperate for chances to reconnect with Tabitha and will jump at the bit for any opportunity she gets to get a little bit closer to Tabitha. Stella wants Tabitha.
But in Tabitha's eyes, Stella does not know what she wants. She doesn't realize that her desires are not good for her, and thus, Tabitha must be the one to make the hard decisions.
And that's what Tabitha always does, isn't it? Tabitha makes decisions for people because she wants to protect them. She makes decisions for the miners because she thinks they'll be better off with the town afloat than with their desired working conditions. She makes decisions for us because she's come to love us and wants to keep us safe.
Tabitha has come to view herself as a guardian figure. The necessary evil. The mean mom that makes the tough decisions no one else can. And that mentality is so pervasive in her life that it's come to impact her relationships, too.
oh tabitha your hairline
We do a little teasing because I said so!
Even in a game with nothing but 10/10 characters I can't get over just how much Tabitha Scarlet is a Character of All Time. She's a badass and a sopping wet cat and great and horrible and hilarious and profoundly sad all at once. She's stuck perpetuating the same awful cycle as the previous generations and buys into the fiction she has to keep it going no matter the cost with her own happiness the first thing that gets sacrificed. She has taken what might otherwise be virtues and twisted them into terrible tragic flaws, martyring herself for a futile cause while hurting everyone around her and gaining so very little for it. She can be your enemy and your most stalwart ally and even both at once, bluntly honest while constantly keeping secrets out of a misguided sense of responsibility or otherwise. And for all that she's not a good person there is kindness and a yearning for better things and above all a capacity for change, and while you can't fix her you might be able to be there for her and help her break the cycle before/when whatever disaster inevitably falls upon the town.
me and my girl dont argue she tells me to shut up and i call the police
