Crack Fic Challenge! Anon, I was stumped for ages on this, but inspiration finally hit in the form of Zuko and Katara. Warning: the following is cheesier than a stuffed crust pizza.
They were in his study, perusing some dusty old documents for Aang’s quest to find more airbenders—Katara noticed the candle light flutter when their hands brushed as she passed him an old map. She let herself sneak a look at Zuko, who stared pointedly at the faded parchment. He’d let his top knot down, and his hair hung shaggy around his ears like it had in the old days, but—was the Fire Lord blushing?
Intrigued, Katara shifted in her seat slightly, letting her knee touch his, subtle enough that it might have been an accident, only the faintest hit of contact. But the candle light fluttered again, and this time she turned to look him full in the face. “Zuko?”
Shyly, he turned to meet her gaze, deep amber eyes honest and hardly daring to hope. The candle light shook again, and she realized the flames ebbed and surged in time to the furious beat of her own heart.
She hadn’t thought it would start here, like this, but she couldn’t help herself. She leaned forward and brushed a chaste kiss across his lips.
She liked the stunned expression on his face, the barest hint of a smile playing on his mouth. “Katara…”
She thought she might kiss him again, but she scented something sharp and acrid. “Zuko, you hair’s on fire!” Pulling water from a nearby vase, she threw it on the singed ends where the candle had caught it.
Dripping wet and smoking slightly, Zuko gave her a lopsided grin. “It was worth it.”
