What the final fantasy dudebros fundamentally miss about Prompto’s elementary —> high school transformation is that it’s not just some inspiring weight loss journey. Prompto going from fat to skinny was not the catalyst for the Promptis friendship (which is what makes it even more tragic that Prompto felt he had lose all of this weight since we the audience know Noct would’ve accepted him regardless). The catalyst was Prompto becoming confident and reaching out to talk to other people. As he says in Motel Promptis, he used to be super shy and couldn’t talk to anyone. Those daily interactions he had with fellow runners and passerbys got him out of his shell and made him into the person who was able to casually approach the prince with a pat on the back.

It makes me so sad that these straight guys just look at Prompto losing weight and don’t see the actual EMOTIONAL journey that was probably more important than the physical one. When you reduce Prompto to just going from fat to skinny you’re fundamentally doing his character a great disservice.

This is true of the manga, but I love how the anime accentuates the absolute physical trust the apprentices have with Qifrey. Specifically with Agott, the way she is so ready when Qifrey says “hang on tight, I need my hands free” to cling to him a mile into the sky, and then in the latest episode, how, as soon as she impacts Qifrey while flying to him, she makes no move to save herself, she just curls into him and trusts that he will keep them from falling.

And I think it works as a signal to the audience, to subtly go “hey, I know we don’t trust Qifrey right now, he’s being shady, but we can always trust him to protect the physical wellbeing of his kids. Remember that.” Idk man maybe I’m getting too attached to a teeny detail but aaaaaaghhhh that’s her dad.
