Team Salon MIX at Gathering
Hello everyone! It's me again, Samantha! Now that I have shared my take on Gathering from behind the scenes.. I want to share the experience the Salon Mix team had while there:
What makes you want to attend Gathering?
Sarah: To stay connected to the Paul Mitchell family, build my Mix team culture and well.. To learn stuff (hahaha).
TJ: (aside from booze, he says) The Education and being reunited with my fellow Paul Mitchell-ites! (Tj is a former Platform artist for the brand).
When you arrived, what was the energy like?
Mel: (as she steps away while her bubble gum pink color client processes) To be inspired!
Danielle: (while crunching on Cheetos) The energy was exciting and I got inspired when I started to see all of my peers.
What was the most inspiring part of the trip?
TJ: Jason Reyes's class. Being a hairdresser, I don't have much of a barbering background, so it opened up my world more to that!
Sarah: The Grand Finally when all of the artists came out and showcased their brilliant work.
Danielle: Being there with more than half of my team!
Mel: I felt the most inspired in the men's grooming class with Jason Reyes when I learned a new prospective and way of executing styles that I normally do, but now can continue to improve!
What was your favorite part of the Grand Opening or closing sessions?
Mel: I loved at the end when all the platform artists were on stage creating their looks. I also found a new stylist to look up to, Fernie!
Danielle: The closing session when I got to see all of my fellow educators on stage.
What was your favorite classroom to be in and why?
Danielle: My favorite classroom was "Planning Pays Off" lead by Rick Battaglini who is Paul Mitchell's CFO. I liked it because most salons don't educate their stylists about retirement, and this class was specifically formatted for just that.
Sarah: The business class called "Best Practices" taught by Sue from ARCS. I loved the great energy and she delivered useful information
How good of a dancer was I at the party?
Tj: Phenominal, magical.
Danielle: Ohh is that what that was?? What a bodacious babe!
What did you take away from this event and experience?
Mel: Just really excited about the men's cutting!
Danielle: I took away the passion and drive that motivates me to be a better leader for my salon!
What are you most excited to share with your clients:
Tj: I am excited to share with my clients the new Quinoa Color Repair category!
Mel: New techniques and new products!
Paul Mitchell Gathering 2014
Every year Paul Mitchell throws an event of EPIC proportions in Las Vegas! Our Lead Stylist and Paul Mitchell National Educator, Samantha, was working in one of the classrooms this year!
Here is her experience:
On August 2nd at 6am, I sit and drink my venti coffee at LAX ready to embark on another work journey! As I look over my schedules for the next few days I can feel my excitement growing!! It is time to be surrounded by the best in the industry, working along side mentors and peers while learning, showcasing skills and growing as a stylist!
Once I arrive in Vegas, I checked in at the Aria where the event was being held and got right to work! The first day I spent helping everyone set up their amazing classrooms. Everything from color, cutting, mens barbering and editorial styling all taught by the Platform artists themselves! The classroom I was selected to work in by the hair genius herself, was Lucie Doughty, Paul Mitchell's Editorial Director.
The next day was rehearsal for the classroom. Lucie got right down with us showing us the brilliant looks step by step so we are prepared to help all the attendee's nail it! After styling I was so excited to hear that my Salon Mix team has arrived in Vegas! So I went to meet up with them for dinner and a night of fun!
Waking up the next morning you could just feel the energy in the Aria. All the attendee's have arrived and everything was about to go down! We kicked off the weekend with an incredible show put on by all of the top people in Paul Mitchell! Between the inspiration of John Paul DeJoria, the energy from Robert Cromeans and the visual bliss from the creations from our stage team, we blew the audience away! That night was time for the fun to begin! John Paul DeJoria also owns Patron... so with that being said, at Paul Mitchell.. we know how to throw a party!! It is a great time for industry leaders, stylists, educators and everyone to come together, network and boogie down!!!
The last day was the education day! It was finally time for all of these elaborate classrooms to come to life!! I spent the day working in Lucie's class seeing great interpretations of her work come to life across the room. It was truly an amazing experience!! I came back to LA with a fire lit and ready to pass on my knowledge and work on my clients and peers!
Giving Back, MIX Style
On Thursday, July 31st, we threw an amazing event in support of DAWS.
You might be asking yourself? What is DAWS..? It stands for ‘Director of Animal Welfare Services’. We partnered up with Jean Marie, who is the director for the Atwater Village Chapter of DAWS, and held a fundraiser.
It was a night of live music thanks to Bobbi DeCarlo and The Starlites, food, drinks, networking, locals and most importantly.. giving back. We are so happy to say that between donations from the silent auction as well as just generous givers we were able to raise enough to sustain her wonderful program for another year!!
This money will go to DAWS to provide food for the animals, shelter, help families with pets in need, spay/neutering as well as vaccinations and more!
We are always more than happy to reach out and help our community, furry friends included! Aside from that, we sure know how to throw a party!!! Hope to see you all at our next!!
It's that time of year again!! Every year Paul Mitchell throws and event of epic proportions in Las Vegas! Stylist's from around the world fly out to attend, and Salon Mix is joining in on the rEvolution! It is going to be two days of inspiration, motivation, education and networking! Our stylists will get to be hands on with the best in the company to better our techniques and master the trends to bring them back to our amazing clients. We are also honored that our lead stylist and National Educator, Samantha, will be working this great event in the Style Class with Lucie Doughty. Samantha also can't wait to bring back her knowledge and experience to the team and her clients!! Get ready for what's to come at Salon Mix and be part of OUR reVolution!

Here is a creative curl technique done by our stylist Nikki! She was inspired by all of the textured hair trending right now and wanted to use an alternative way to create a fun pattern! Using her Paul Mitchell ProStix, she wrapped the hair around in a corkscrew manner and tapped the hair with her Paul Mitchell Express Ion Smooth.
This look can be versatile depending on the canvas it's used on, so whether you leave the curl defined or break it up for a light and airy look, you'll have fun experimenting with this technique!
