I've never had any strong feelings about Hayden regarding the fanmail thing because it was so obviously just a vessel for them getting outed and Shane moving to Ottawa. The story was set up so that there's almost no other way it could have gone down for that level of emotional payout because of Shane's paranoia, and I guess Rachel Reid wanted to do an outing storyline since she never has in the other books.

Maybe it'd feel different if Hayden was more consistently characterized, or if his reasonings for making a few extra bucks on fanmail was ever explained (he's not short on money even with so many kids and fewer sponsorships than Shane, and he's clearly not doing it because he cares a ton about these random people). But overall I'm not mad at him. I don't want to explore Shane or Ilya being mad at him. It's just...whatever.
