Had a pretty decent following on IG with my cosplay account until their AI decided to ban me for community guideline violations. Before they tried saying I was selling something without advertising (I wasn't but hey if you want to pay...). Does their "technology" ever say what specific guidelines I violated? Nope and any account I make gets banned within a day. My Tik Tok is gone and with everything going on I really don't want to make a new one.

it should be illegal to ask for previous experience if youre offering minimum wage. so you admit that the skill is essential to the job, you dont want to pay to train someone, but youre not willing to pay experienced prices? 🤨

things that happened to me when i was a woman in STEM:

an advisor humiliated me in front of an entire lab group because of a call I made in his place when he wouldn't reply to my e-mails for months

he later delegated part of my master's thesis work to a 19-year old male undergrad without my approval

a male scientist at a NASA conference looked me up and down and asked when i was graduating and if i was open to a job at his company. right before inquiring what my ethnicity was because i "looked exotic"

a random male member of the public began talking over me and my female advisor, an oceanographer with a pHD and decades of experience, saying he knew more about oceanography than us

things that have happened to me since becoming a man in STEM:

being asked consistently for advice on projects despite being completely new to a position

male colleagues approaching me to drop candid information regarding our partners / higher ups that I was not privy to before

lenience toward my work in a way I haven't experienced before. incredible understanding when I need to take time off to care for my family.

conference rooms go silent when I start talking. no side chatter. I get a baseline level of attention and focus from people that's very unfamiliar and genuinely difficult for me to wrap my head around.

like. yes some PI's will still be assholes regardless of the gender of their subordinates but, I've lived this transition. misogyny in STEM is killing women's careers, and trans men can and do experience male privilege.

Interviewed for a Medical Examiner tech position.

*You know this job is gross, right?

*Well we need someone to answer the phone

*Have you considered being a nurse?

*we need someone with experience. I have a degree and did mortuary. (They ended up hiring the nephew of the sheriff's secretary)

*What did you do in the military....no what did you really do? Doesn't matter probably some desk job. (It wasn't)

*And of course the usual not so legal question about kids and marriage.

I've honestly given up looking for a job STEM or otherwise.

Hey I just wanna put my voice out there, as a school teacher myself:

I know there’s a lot of discourse out there over who actually started the fight and that Nex might have splashed water on the girls. Uhm, I just wanna let everyone know that it’s my school district’s policy that the punishment for SPLASHING WATER on someone IS NOT A BEATING TO THE DEATH.
