Living for August
Victoria knows everything there is to know about her best friend August. From her most embarrassing childhood crushes to her silly fear of ferrets, August never could keep a secret from Victoria. Or so Victoria thought. She realizes August managed to keep the biggest secret of all when, on a bright July morning, August takes her own life.
Because August left no note, her loved ones are left drowning in guilt and wondering why. The only light in their darkness is when Victoria finds the bucket list August never finished and takes on the mission of completing it.
Whether it’s pigging out on a cake or fulfilling a lifelong promise August made to Victoria’s little sister, every item Victoria checks off of August’s list seems to help her loved ones cope with her death just a little more. Accomplishing these goals for August makes Victoria laugh, cry, and catch a glimpse of August’s life in ways she never had before.
But with no goals revealing how August was feeling in her final days, Victoria can’t help but feel increasingly hopeless that she’ll never know why August did what she did. What she doesn’t realize is that her mission to learn why August wanted to leave may be making other people want to stay.
