Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay Gold.
THE OUTSIDERS (1983) dir. Francis Ford Coppola
Not to be over dramatic but you know what’s sad? Outgrowing the fictional characters you loved as a kid. Those characters who were dearer friends than any real person, those childhood crushes. They stay the same age, forever locked in the ink on the pages, whilst we grow up. We go from being younger than them and looking up to them as romodels, to being their age, and seeing them as equals, to growing older than them and seeing their mistakes, yet still loving them as if they were our younger siblings/own kids. That’s the funny thing about books I guess. They remain immortal while we pass them by.

Found this in an antique store the other day and just had to get it.
If Johnny recovered from the hospital (...and they were gay lmao)
"You have a visitor."
Sodapop entered my room and approached me and I had a feeling it was someone important, so I stood up and went into the living room where I would see none other than Johnny standing there in plain sight.
"Johnny!" I cried out as I leapt forward and wrapped him in probably the most crushing hug I’ve ever given. He visibly winced, but did his best to reciprocate it. I could feel my throat closing up and my eyes watering, but I never loosened my grip on him. "God, man, I thought I’d lost you... I thought I’d lost you..." I stood there repeating those same words in incoherent mutters, and the moment never stopped being intense. The world around me slowly closed in on only what was happening between us at that moment, and for a while there the only thing that mattered was me and Johnny. Johnny and me.
"You didn’t. I’m here, Pony." he said, and another waterfall of tears came as I heard him say my name. I never thought I’d hear the sound of his voice again, but now he was here. He was here.
"Wanna know why I was so afraid to lose you?" I sniffed. "Wanna know why? Because I’d never get to do this," Johnny didn’t have time to respond before I pressed my lips against his. It was over in less than a second but I pressed my forehead against his so we’d never stop being close. I kept repeating my words in a panic and I could feel my hands becoming unstable as I kept kissing him over and over. I wanted to feel him like it was the last time I could feel him. I whispered in between kisses—"don’t leave me again, don’t scare me like that."
"I won’t," he whispered back, and I suddenly felt the feeling of panic and overwhelm I had earlier subside. I pulled him into a hug again, and we remained as such for a while. I knew Sodapop and Darry could hear us—I knew they were probably standing there. But I didn’t care. Because Johnny had survived—and I was gonna help him get his life back.
