On my millionth rewatch of The Passenger and I only now noticed that the first word Randy says in the film is Benson's name when walking into BBB and greeting him, and Benson's last word spoken was Randy's name before walking out of the diner.

It doesn't get gayer than that folks

still thinking about the moment of eye contact when chris is threatening benson but randy and benson are just staring at each other and communicating. i’ve thought about it a lot and i think that’s the moment benson decides to kill everybody honestly. when randy shakes his head no, don’t do anything, don’t get beat up over me. i’m not worth it. i think that’s really truly the moment of no return for benson. he sticks his neck out and randy doesn’t want it. benson wants to step in and not watch this moment and randy becomes complicit in it as a victim by declining his help, and it triggers the fuck out of benson by reminding him of what it feels like to decide to not defend yourself out of fear. maybe it triggers him more because he’s literally offering randy the outside help he always wanted and doesn’t act on it in the moment, so he has to come back and reassert his power by killing chris. he’s never going to be that powerless little kid again and he’s never going to let randy be that either.

Listen I love dirty grunge Benson. I get it. God, do I get it. But this is not the work uniform of a man who is stinky.

His shirt is pressed, fitted and tucked in. Name tag perfectly straight. Slacks ironed.

Now, I do agree he smells like cigarettes, but I do not think he reeks or is smelly really. I think he wears deodorant and cologne everyday. And he has just the hint of cigarette smell mixed in but it's good. It makes him smell manly in a nice way.

Meanwhile, Randy looks like he threw his clothes on the ground after his last shift, gave them a sniff the next morning and then pulled them back on.

Shirt? Wrinkly. Untucked. Too big. Slacks? Also wrinkly.

All I'm saying is Randy has spent his life coasting on auto pilot. He probably has a shower routine set by his mom that he's adhered to since the incident and it's the only reason he doesn't reek. He definitely sweats off any deodorant he wears and I doubt he's reapplying it. He buys Axe because he saw some guy in highschool using it and figures that's what everyone uses.
