This is a sketch out of my sketchbook, and I really enjoyed playing around with Faber Castells new line of markers, their Albrecht Durer watercolor markers. The only thing I found was that once they dried, they were pretty waterproof, with the exception of a little bit of bleed. Combined with a water storing paintbrush, it made for a treat to paint. The colors are rich, and when they’re fresh they’re easily diluted into a good wash and they combined well with each other. They work well if you want to use them as just a marker! I would suggest picking up a few to accentuate your artwork.Â
This is Dean, my happy go lucky German Shepherd. He’s a loveable goof and I really enjoyed capturing his personality. I really fell in love with doing pet portraits when I did this one.Â

I started diving deeper into medical illustration as a way to handle my own job as a respiratory therapist and to cope with every day stress, the analytic and scientific nature of the field is something I enjoy and I’ve always loved looking at scientific illustrations and diagrams. I enjoy peeling back layers and looking inside things, it just makes sense that I enjoy looking at the inner works of the body. Thanks for looking!

I was experimenting with procreate, and I came up with this portrait of my goofy dog Dean. I love drawing goofy portraits of dogs, to capture their fun and unique personalities!

Hey there! I’m Sam of Sam Guenther Illustration. I make various medical and scientific studies and illustrations, and I also love doing pet/wildlife portraits, portraits of loved ones, and urban sketches.
I really love expressing myself as a healthcare worker going through all the rough waves of the pandemic. I’ve been a respiratory therapist for 5 years and the last two have been the most difficult by far. I have been illustrating everything I’ve been doing and offering an inside look into life at the bedside that people don’t often get to see. I hope you find them moving and informative. Please feel free to ask questions and share!
