There's something about this twist on the common unicorn lore that unicorns will lay their heads in the laps of fair (virgin) maidens that I'm absolutely in love with here. Where those women are often portrayed as fragile and innocent and pure, this woman is completely nonchalant. She is confident in her position as part of or benefactor of this dragon's hoard. There is a man climbing to the roost, an interloper, and she has no concerns whatsoever. She and her dragon are content and unconcerned with the petty greed of mortals.

In summary, I want to eat this artwork.

Book 87 ✅ was fun. I have followed @writethroughthenight through fandoms and love their style!! (If this isn’t you…sorry 😅)

Shane and Ilya both wanted a plan SO bad, and they had to pivot at almost every step. So the typeset is very rigid with grid lines and all the marks for the font design visible, body breaks are checkmarks, the headbands are woven squares meant to be checkboxes. And … at the same time … the endpapers are stunning and wild marbling by @maleekamolscreates , a clear pattern but with so much movement, and the spine is also marbled, but with chaos swirls, not matching.

Speaking of pivoting … this cover design had it out for me. Half htv, half hand foiled, because this font refused to be weeded.

Books 84 and 85 ✅ ✅ have arrived safely so I can share them here!! @dragonmuse is a wonder and it has been so fun playing with her words.

First, The Hottest Cold War, which went through 3 typeset iterations before I was happy with it. I loved how Scott and Ilya gave each other things throughout the story, and added them to the gutter design as chapters progressed. The headband is ombre with five colors to show the blend of the polycule coming together but still containing separate pairings. And of course the quote on the back that is breathtakingly beautiful.

Then, The Stairs Go Ever Down. Vee said it was intended to be a one shot and feel like the momentum was unstoppable, and I leaned in on that. I removed the chapter split ao3 insisted on and split the title across the gutter to bring that feeling of continuity (and because I’m weak for a gutter design 🤷‍♀️). But then I got really into the details - I drew 3 lines in affinity to wrap through the entire typeset including the front matter which I’ve never designed before!! I brought in one red thread to the headbands, and chose endpapers that had tiny streaks of red through the marbling. The cover design brought it all together blending the red string of fate with a crime board for our soulmate criminals. They did the crimes and I love them, your honor.
