Without an operator the tripod was in danger of tipping, unable to right itself. Helena figured that out quickly and dropped into the cockpit full of odd controls. Not knowing what was what, she said aloud, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained,” and moved a knob. One of the tripod’s legs promptly whipped about at extreme speed, smashing into the side of the shredder and getting stuck. Though it did damage, it caused the tripod to become imbalanced.
Before it fell entirely, the mercenary jumped from the machine, sailing to the shredder before a weapon could target her. One hand grabbed on to the exhausted vent and the other stuffed something in beneath the dead robot, pushing off with a foot and scrambling away, just as fast as she had started – though now she had a burned hand. The tripod seemed salvageable, if laying in an odd manner.
On the ground next to the shredder was a tell-tale sign of what she’d thrown in; the pin of a grenade.
A shredder’s armour plating was incredibly strong, built so that even light explosives that weren’t designed to puncture such material would have a hard time getting through it. However one oversight in their defences is that nobody really expected someone to shove a frag INSIDE of it. The grenade detonated, creating a muffled sound and very little visual indicator of how much damage it did. However on the inside...
Fragments of metal splintered through the arm’s interior; the armour actually being a hindrance due to forcing the explosion to remain inside. The damage was massive and total; destroying all functionality within the arm and after a second longer the arm cannon detonated as well, taking off the now severely mangled arm entirely and breaking off even more armour; a fact that the SA units quickly took advantage of to gun the shredder down. “That’s one way of doing things” Sam said, “Nice work everyone, let’s get the tripod back up and get someone in it, eh?”
