I just remembered I never really made an intro for this blog. So here is is!
Hello! This is my main account and I usually post about whatever I'm obsessed with at the moment. I write some fanfiction as well, which you can find my account here. I draw from time to time, but it's not very consistent.

headcanon that adult!zuko has kind of long nails as Firelord?? longer than would normally would be associated for a regular laboror or swordsman or palace servant, at least.
Azula's wildly long nails and Zuko being from the royal family makes me think it's a royal thing since that did happen historically as far as fashion went.
and it just kind of fits with the overall Dragon aesthetic of the ruling Fire Family and their emulation of the creature which granted them the "divine right" to rule, so it would be passed down as a traditional by Zuko's point
Jet helps people. At his core, that's who he is. A fighter? Or... a helper. He wants to help. He had nothing to gain from helping starving refugees on the ferry. Nothing to gain from trying to recruit Zuko. Nothing to gain from helping the Gaang find Appa. Nothing. And he still did it.
I will forever be pissed about Netflix portraying him as a selfish asshole who is just a bad guy with no redeeming qualities.
Jet is NOT selfish. He may be misguided, he may take things too far, but at his core, everything he does, he does because he thinks he's doing what's best for the people he cares about.
He thinks he needs to flood the village because he thinks it's the only way he can keep the Freedom Fighters, a group of orphaned children to count on him for everything, safe. It was wrong, yes. But his complicated emotions and reasons behind his actions are what make him interesting! It's interesting when characters do bad things for the sake of trying to do good!
The one thing I liked in the Netflix avatar was the dichotomy between Jet and Teo's father. It shows the reaction of two victims of this war who have lost something, and how they deal with it. Teo's father chose to take a knee to the enemy, giving them whatever they wanted for fear of losing what little he had left. Jet, on the other hand, decided to become just as violent as his oppressors, to get back at them for what they had taken from him. Both are real responses to those under the thumb of fascism, and while both are flawed, both stem from the want of keeping the people they care for safe.
But then, some people have decided that Jet is actually just irredeemable and would ever put himself before the people he loves. Ridiculous. Jet is flawed, but that's because he's a traumatized child and a victim of war. He is not abusive, he doesn't revel in pain and anguish, and he's certainly not a rapist.
I love toxic Jetko in some situations, but in the way that they were both not right for each other. Not that Jet was this abusive, manipulative jerk that took advantage of Zuko, this poor and helpless victim to his whims. They're both very proud and set in their ways during the time they meet, and there is an interesting dynamic there, but Jet ain't no mastermind abusive chud.
Oh, absolutely. He would hate that guy. Especially after his talk with Sokka, with the whole, "you betrayed yourself after you stopped protecting innocent people" talk. Jet is the guardian and caretaker of the kids in the Freedom Fighters. He loves those kids to death, and really, in Ba Sing Se, anyone who had been victimized by the Fire Nation. He would never, ever, put his needs before there's.
Absolutely agree with your points on that post! I get it, it can be fun to write about a bad guy and whatnot, but pick someone else! Jet ain't that guy! Please, I need more complicated Jet content, not just straight up evil. My boy is complicated.

noticing something about fire bending in "the deserter", specifically zuko's vs zhao's. in general, every time we see zuko fire bend, if he misses aang/his opponent, the fire just dissipates. but when zhao attacks aang, his fire hits the trees behind him and burns them. why? aang says it himself: "no self control." Zhao lacks the self-control to contain his fire. but zuko doesn't.
Thinking about Zuko again. Specifically, his name and how it correlates to his family, his people, and his position with them. I'm sure I'm not the first to recognize this pattern, but I haven't seen much on this particular perspective!
So, first of all, in the royal family and high-ranking individuals, there is a strong use of the letter Z. Sozin, Azulon, Ozai, Azula, Zuko, Zhao. Perhaps it is seen as a royal-sounding letter or simply favored as a sound within the Fire Nation.
But there is also a another pattern with the letter K, with Avatar Roku and Kuzon, Aang's friend. These are common people, for the most part, and are a few examples we have of good people in the Fire Nation.
Zuko is the only one of his family since Roku (as far as we know) to have the letter K in his name. He has both Z and K, both the power to do great evil and great good. He is divided in his name, as he is for most of his arc, by a choice. To choose between the desires of his family and their war, or to listen to the good inside his heart, the good that had always been there. He is different than them, and that is evident even down to his very name.
Perhaps this is nothing. Just a little something I had rolling around in my mind as I turn the Character™️ around in my head.

Hellfire is the perfect song for Jetko. Guy who thinks he's righteous blaming the other person for the desire he feels for someone he thinks he shouldn't. That's the short version, anyway.
If you want the long version of me over-anazlyzing this, then look below! Prepare for some serious yapping:
It's literally so perfect. I'm going to pick out some lyrics from the song and explain why I love it so much.
"Why I see her dancing there? Why her smold'ring eyes still scorch my soul? I feel her, I see her, the sun caught in her raven hair, is blazing in me out of all control."
Zuko's eyes are golden, only seen in the Fire Nation. His eyes are burning into Jet, a clear reminder of what he is, and yet still, he wants. Zuko has raven hair, and the sun is a big part of his culture, the source of all Firebender's power, glinting in his dark, dark hair, the same color as ash. The sight should fill Jet with hate, and yet... he can't look away. It's set a blaze within him, and it's all that firebender's fault, surely.
"Like fire, Hellfire, this fire in my skin. This burning desire, is turning me to sin."
This uncontrollable want for Zuko is just like the fire that Jet so despises, burning him from the inside out. It's making him want things he can't possibly want, things he can never have, like a damn firebender. The reason for all his suffering. This must just be part of another one of their cruelty, messing with his heart like this. Seducing him, really.
"Protect me, Maria, don't let this siren cast her spell, don't let her fire sear my flesh and bone!Destroy Esmeralda and let her taste the fires of hell, or else let her be mine and mine alone."
Jet blames Zuko for his feelings. He's not the reason he feels this way for an ashmaker, certainly. He would never fall for one of them. Zuko must have done something to him, tricked him. But there's a part of him that still wants him, wants to have Zuko on his team, to himself. He either wants him arrested like Zuko deserves, or... have him be his alone. It's a conflicting feeling, and Jet can't handle it, so he lashes out.
