I mean, by the time he was with Ralph he always cheered him and supported him like when the fire went out, he was also rushing to go up the mountain to check despite having that struggle with his trousers... simon absolutely YEARNING for any attention he can get from ralph, he loves him to an indistinguishable extent and hes never experienced anything like it before, his world bursts with light and suddenly everything is worth cherishing a thousand times more, he cant stop the cheerful grin on his face whenever hes near ralph

he makes him flower chains, which never last long, but simon doesnt take it to heart, in his heart, ralph could never so badly upset him

ralph is completely oblivious, and simon sort of weirds him out, simon thinks ralph understands him in a way no one else does

ralph is hit with a wave of emotions after simons death, denial of course, but also love, he loved simon, he loved him too late, took his odd presence for granted
