I wanted to experiment with drawing what you hear. I made these pieces - the first five are in one location with the bottom 4 being made with different materials and in another location - I also wanted to look at how location affects the way you perceive music.

I experimented with natural sunlight shining through the garment. Like a torch, it made the texture more 3d-like and defined, making it seem like waves.

Stage 4: The garment itself is completed - I orignally was going to 'bubble' to whole piece at once then take images using different coloured light and angles to create intriguing shadows on the walls, but now I've changed my plan slightly. Instead of 'bubbling' the whole thing at once, I've decided to do it bit by bit - it reminds me of a virus slowly creeping its way through / around / up the body slowly infecting and morphing each cell (this could be linked to the current situation). Between each 'level' of 'bubbling', I aim to take photos.

Stage 3: After having cut the patterns out, I stitched them together. The material itself is quite stiff, and in a way robust meaning that it doesn't drape well, and when worn it can be quite uncomfortable in areas due to this rigidness

Stage 2

The images I took before inspired my to make a kimono using the fabric. I wanted to make a tester kimono, to make sure I fully understand what I’m doing. My plan is to make sed kimono (using the printing fabric), then created the bubbled texture with the heat gun, and then hang it in different ways to create shadows on the wall. One difficulty I faced / am facing is the fact that the tester was made from ‘unstretchy’ cotton, and the screen printing material is very stretchy.

After having made these topographical-like sheets, I wanted to look at projecting light through them to create busy and intricate shadows. These are the outcomes (excuse the bad quality)

After having spoken to one of my teachers, I was given a fabric, which when heated, would bubble and disfigure, so I started experimenting on a small scale, however I wasn’t happy with the outcomes.

I came across screen printing fabric, and as its 100% polyester (I think) / made of plastic, I used a heat gun, and experimented with distorting small cuttings. I liked the outcome, so I decided to go further and made a sheet (around A3 size) of fabric where I stitched together small pieces to create one large one.

This is my second attempt. I don’t like the outcome as, again, it's plain and lacks movement, however I do like the composition and placement of the image I took as it’s full of movement due to the angular lines of the architecture.

This was my first experiment - I'm not so happy with this as it lacks form and composition, colour, and is generally just "plain". In my view, it doesnt represent the taken image, but i guess thats art...

After having decided to change what I was doing, I started on creating small fabricated drawings using found material. I simply took a picture of what was in front of me and recreated sed image with fabric

I looked at form, composition, and the ability to distort the human body

Top Left : I want to create some that was uncomfortable to wear however that was visually attractive - I only managed the former. (seen with drawings of the taken images)

Bottom Left and Right : After the glove experiment that didn't go to plan, I wanted to look at how these materials affect the wearer. I attached bricks to shoes and made the wearer walk. In doing so, it was difficult for them to walk normally, meaning they had to walk in a particularly unusual way, and "uncomfortable" way. The image on the left consists of experiments where I looked at stuffing objects up a shirt to create that 'uncomfortable' effect that I desired.

After having made these, I couldn't see where this could go and decided to change.
