⭐️ guuuys, I've got a 1936 album with cigarette cards featuring popular german artists of the time. ooohhhh, now I have all my favorites!!! and the opportunity to explore a list of new and exciting actors. the philatelist inside me is dancing with joy to the “wir zahlen keine miete mehr“

i wonder about the person who did all the hard work more than 80 years ago. the person who collected the cards and pasted them into the album, checking the list every time. how much did him love it? did him continue to love it decades later, or did him become disillusioned with life and sell their precious album? we will never know 🙇🏼‍♂️

⭐️ Curd Jürgens was so cool that he was not at all afraid to openly criticize nazism. on one occasion, he got into an argument in a viennese bar with Robert Kaltenbrunner (brother of the high-ranking austrian ss officer Ernst Kaltenbrunner), ss obersturmbannführer Otto Skorzeny and an employee of Baldur von Schirach, not knowing who they were. after this event, Jürgens was sent to a labor camp for “politically unreliable” in Hungary. however, a few weeks later, he managed to escape and go into hiding.

⭐️ you know, i constantly monitor the markets in search of various antique postcards and other things related to old german cinema. and recently i got my hands on a book-brochure about Willy Fritsch.

🎞️ so far, i know that the book was released in 1931, and there were many books about other artists in the same series.

🎞️ judging by the pencil inscriptions on the pages, the book was brought and presented to someone in russia on august 8, 1945. there is a black pen painting on the title page – I could not identify the letters and the language. write if you can do it.

🎞️ in the future, i plan to scan the entire book and upload it to tumblr. would you like to read?

The fate of Germany's hottest couple of the 1930s.

Lillian Harvey and Willy Fritsch as tsar Alexander (Otto Walburg is also standing in the back) in hilarious film of the 30s. they were considered the most beautiful couple in germany, each film was a great success, and hollywood sent invitations to shoot.

Lillian Harvey was probably the most daring actress of her time. with no protection or patrons, she helped her jewish friend escape. she was immediately caught and subjected to a thorough interrogation, during which she lost her home, citizenship, and even her bank account. undeterred, Harvey left for france and then moved to hollywood. she continued to act and was highly sought after.

Willi Fritsch's solution was simple: he joined the nazi party and could easily refuse offers to star in pro-nazi films, claiming that he was already a member of the party. he did not take any action to support the party. in fact, Fritsch starred in several resistance films, such as "vienna blood." the gestapo became interested in him, but did not take any action. after the war, Fritsch was rehabilitated and continued to act in films.

Otto Walburg was unlucky: this wonderful comedian was jewish and ended his days in the Westerbork concentration camp. the saddest thing is that he was a member of Herman Kosterlitz's (Henry Koster's) team, in which almost everyone was jewish. the whole team left germany and went to seek their fortune in other countries. walburg was the only one who decided to give up wandering and return home. this was a fatal mistake.
