Callisto hasn’t been out to the bars since the move to Portland. She’s been way too busy with the team and recovery that all she wanted to do when she got home was curl up next to her girlfriend and sleep. So, when the team suggested that they went out after one of their games, Callisto couldn’t say no even if she wanted to. It was still hard for her to be on her feet for longer than an hour. Her ankle still killed from the surgery and it still was nicely casted. Moving from the group of loud and obnoxious futbol players, Callisto took a seat at the bar. She really just needed to sit for a little before getting back to her mates. “The Pens can win this game since I’m not a huge fan of the Caps. And, the Patriots are awful and should be banned from ever playing a football game again. Even if they play the wrong kind of football.” The canadian said softly, looking up at the screen and taking a sip of her beer.

“See, I like both of them so I’m torn for that series. But I think the Pens might win the whole thing.” Sam admitted with a slight shrug, sipping on her beer. “I’m not a Patriots fan either, but they are a good team. Whether or not that’s because of the whole cheating thing or whatever, I don’t know. I’ve never followed that sport that closely. They’ve gotten away with way too many things, though, that’s for sure. Wrong kind? Oh, you’re talking about soccer, aren’t you? I’ve always wondered why they don’t just call it football here. If you think about it, it makes more sense.”

Big spender. That’s what Max was. If the money had actually been his own that might have been different but it wasn’t. “Shots for these three and whoever else wants them,” he called to the bartender, pointing to the hot little blonde and set of twins at his side. He couldn’t be bothered to even learn their names. He didn’t need to anyway it was going to be a great night. Or so he thought. Practically getting whiplash, he craned his head to the side. He knew that particular voice well– very well, except it confused the hell out of him. “Sam?” He practically sputtered out her name. “Whoa, what are you doing here? By here I mean the bar? And Wilmington? You know, everywhere… Are you lost?”

Sam thought she recognized the voice next to her but it wasn’t until she heard her name that she looked over. “Yeah? Oh.” She breathed out, her smile immediately dropping at the sight of Max and the three women with him. Turning back to the man she had been talking to, she offered him a brief apology before turning back towards her ex. “Well, I was attempting to enjoy a beer.” Though now she wanted to drink for a whole different reason. Scoffing at his other questions, she took a long drink from her beer, needing some liquid courage to deal with this. “I’m on vacation and still have an apartment here, might as well use it. No, I’m not lost, are you? Would’ve thought this place is a little too seedy for your tastes.”

Morgan practically looked like she had just rolled out of bed. Or really, her natural hair–which she loathed–always seemed to be in a constant state of unkemptness. With her current living situation being tricky (that was one word for it), the brunette had barely any time to fire up the flat irons. She was even still wearing her black-rimmed glasses. There was still some data analysis to do and re-checks of student projects, but she was going to go nuts if she had to stare at the four walls of her bedroom again. Megan had come back early, catching the marine biologist on the couch. And to relieve some of the ever-present awkwardness between them, Morgan quietly ducked her head, murmuring something about needing to go to the supermarket without room for a word to be wedged in. She’d been standing in the same aisle for 20 minutes now, staring at the different soup cans. The clearing of a voice beside her came into earshot. “Oh, sorry,” she excused herself, taking a step to the side to stop blocking the products. “Pretty indecisive over here…chicken noodle or vegetable? The real questions to be asking.”

Sam checked her watch as she waited for the woman to grab what she needed and go. Not wanting to be rude, she waited a short while more. She didn’t have anything important to do today, seeing as her options were rather limited, but she did have a few things she needed to do. Finally speaking up, she nodded with a light chuckle at the apology. “No worries,” she mumbled, grabbing a can of the chicken noodle. “Are you asking me or just thinking out loud? Because I’m not really a soup person.” Noticing the can in her hand, she smiled. “This is for my neighbor, he’s sick. And very whiney. I’d probably go with the vegetable if I had to choose, though.”

Iliana idly watched as the sun slowly disappeared into the horizon. Bright oranges and purples illuminated the sky. Darkness wouldn’t be long which she didn’t mind. She was perfectly content with ice cold Coronas at her side and one in her hand. Evenings like these– when the cool breeze ruffled her hair, and the scent of salt in the air, she knew that she’d made the right choice. Beach always trumped mountains; especially in a landlocked state. Attending UNCW rather than the University of Colorado– it was a no-brainer. The rustling sound of someone coming closer brought her out of her reverie. Cocking her head to the side, she glanced up at the other. “I never get sick of this,” she hummed, awkwardly nodding towards the sunset and water. Suddenly remembering her manners, she pulled another beer out of her cooler. “You want one?”

Samantha didn’t mind the never-ending change of scenery that came along with her line of work. In fact, she preferred it. Staying in one place for long periods of time just meant there’d be more things to leave behind, and goodbyes were never easy. The beach was one thing she did miss, however. The scent of salt in the air, the wind rushing through her hair, and the simple sight of it. It was something just better in person. Caught up in her own thoughts she almost missed the voice speaking to her, but the familiar figure felt almost like a slap in the face. It had been quite a while since the last time she saw Iliana. Still, she had never been able to completely forget that face. Realizing she had been silently staring at her, Sam cleared her throat and forced a smile. With any luck, the younger girl wouldn’t remember her. “It is a beautiful view,” she agreed softly, turning back to look at the water. “Yeah, sure. Thanks.” Grabbing the beer from her, Sam cracked it open and took a sip. “While I appreciate the drink, you’ll probably be out and/or broke if you keep giving them out. Unless I’m just an exception.”

Samantha’s hang out as of late seemed to be the closest bar to her apartment. She wasn’t even that big of a drinker, but for some reason, she found the environment comforting. Likely because of the time she spent at them with her partner while roaming around for work. Spotting an open stool at the bar, Sam sat down and ordered herself a beer. “Gotta say this bar may be the only thing I missed about this town. But the cable in my apartment is so much better than it is in shitty hotels. So, for once I may actually be able to watch the Stanley Cup without it cutting out. I’m calling the Pens, they’re basically like the Patriots of hockey. Don’tcha think?”

“Listen, are you sure you didn’t see that thing that ran by?” Elon couldn’t help but sigh before they could even answer him. He was sure that they just didn’t realize what he was asking. He began to make motions to help, his hand extending from his mouth to indicate teeth. “It was huge! I’m talking big teeth, big ears stuff. Straight out of that American kids book.” He racked his brain for the word, but it seemed to be stuck at the tip of his tongue. “The one with the wolf and the hood. Do you know what I’m talking about?” Elon’s chatter seemed to switch subject instantly before he snapped his fingers back in the direction he had came from moments ago. “Anyways, do you think it could have been a wolf I saw?” His hands twitched before he started at the motions again when he didn’t get a response. “They look like this, c’mon, you know what I’m talking about, right?”

“What?” Quickly looking around their surroundings, Sam’s brows furrowed. She hadn’t seen anything, and she wasn’t one to miss things. Samantha had always been extremely observant of both people and her surroundings. But as the male continued rambling, she snapped her fingers and nodded. “Little Red Riding Hood? That’s actually a European fairy tale, but yes...” She trailed off, pursing her lips momentary. “I suppose it’s possible you saw one, but I would say seeing a coyote is more likely. I used to see those all the time.”

“Oh, I haven’t slept in days,” Taylor sighed to the person beside her in the line at the café. “I went from one toddler to two, practically overnight!” The blonde was hardly reserved about speaking out on her life these days – she was always in the news anyway. Especially after the mayor’s daughter had come out as a lesbian and had been dating their rival family’s daughter. Even more-so when said couple had gotten married, then had a child, and adopted another in a small, conservative town in the south like Wilmington. “Whoever said two is better than one clearly wasn’t talking about temper tantrums.”

“Wow, you must have the patience of a saint.” Sam mused, glancing over at the blonde rather than the seemingly never ending line they were stuck in. Even though she had been gone for a few years, and traveled to countless places, she still fondly remembered this particular cafe. “Pretty sure I would be hysterical and losing it by now.” It wasn’t that she disliked kids, she just wasn’t sure she pictured herself ever having any. Babysitting for a few hours was more than enough for her. “How old are they? You’re not stuck with double terrible twos, are you?”
