The images on the screens in the cross are products of electronic feedback – a phenomenon that’s characteristic of video technology, whereby a camera that’s hooked up to a monitor and simultaneously aimed at the same monitor spontaneously generates a stream of ever-changing images. Every movement of the camera causes new and suprisingly regular patterns. Feedback was the first electronic phenomenon to captivate both artists and the public with the sheer beauty of the infinite patterns.
