Janus and Virgil were practically brothers. They grew up in the orphanage together, and swore to eachother that they'd escape together.
But one day... Virgil just left, leaving Janus all alone. Then he later finds out that Virgil Marr is now the fiancé to the richest eligible bachelor in all of the USA! This caused a burning resentment deep within him.
At 19, Janus was drafted for the great war. That's where he got a burn scar over his left eye.
At 23, once the war had ended, he met Patton Dowce, the love of his life. They got married and settled down together rather quickly, and Janus became a lawyer. Life was good.
But the war had left Janus with more than just physical scars.
He began drinking. A lot.
Patton and him began having marital problems. To escape the pain of it, Patton began to read, and subsequently became OBSESSED with the author Logan Sherman. So when Patton found out Logan would be on a 2 week long train ride to Alaska, he bought tickets and disguised it as a "couples retreat".
Janus wasn't stupid. He saw that Patton no longer wore his wedding ring. But he was determined to get the most of this trip.
And drunk Janus was when he found Patton laughing and flirting with Logan alone in the detectives bed chambers. Janus was furious. And determined to take his anger out on someone he's hated for years and years.... Virgil Marr.
Janus banged on Virgil's room, demanding to be let in. When Virgil opened the door, Janus stormed in, throwing papers and acting out.
Virgil begged him to calm down, holding both hands out like he's herding a wild animal. That's when Janus caught a glimpse of the blood-stained knife in Virgil's hand. He laughed.
This man was given everything, abandoning the one he swore to stick beside. And he had the GALL to sh as if he had something to complain about. Janus snapped, wrestling with Virgil. One thing led to another and the knife was plunged into Virgils stomach.
Panicking, Janus took the knife out and desperately tried to stop the bleeding with a random shirt he found on the floor.
But he was unable to save him... so he shut the window, cleaned the scene a bit, and fled to his room; Desperate for a glass of wine to forget.
A while later, Janus overheard Patton admitting to having kissed the detective. A new fire burned within him. He decided to do what he should have done on the night he killed Virgil. Kill the detective.
