Art Leggings & Wearable Art
Here is a preview of a new clothing line I am working on, “House of Canning Fashion”. It re-purposes many of my photographs and other found images into contemporary clothing. The first picture is of yoga leggings based on an architectural image of a building by Santiago Calatrava. The second picture is a kimono derived from an advert of a wine that was infused with cocaine (my how far we have come ;-) The last one is an ensemble of leggings and draped kimono based on a picture from the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam of a Javanese court official, ca. 1820 -1870. http://www.sandracanning.com/index/G0000EZ6pAJ9vgVA

Pope Francis: A Many Layered Man
by Matt Newnham
The current Pope is one of the most revolutionary Popes in history. His courage and willingness to engage openly with a challenging world that is grappling with so many problems has set him apart. Pope Francis has gained a quick following and he is seen as a Pope that is in touch with people and in touch with those the church has so often considered marginalized.
In Pope Francis there is seen a man who is just that, a man. He is becoming the master at something many celebrities struggle with. Getting the right image across to a wide and diverse audience and yet not straying from the biblical path he is ordained to follow, Pope Francis is reaching out and the world seems to be watching his every move.
This revolutionary Pope has inspired something that no other Pope before him can claim. Thanks to a collaboration with the world renowned Franklin Mint, Staramba has just revealed a photorealistic 3D printed figurine of Pope Francis in commemoration of the 2015 Papal Visit to the USA.
This remarkable figurine produced in partnership with Franklin Mint is considered to be a 3D selfie and this sums up Pope Francis well and ties in with his well-known and much talked about use of social media. The small, highly detailed statue is available in a variety of sizes and can be seen here 4” figurine and 7” figurine
The Papal Visit is a good time to remind people of what Time Magazine refers to as the Top 5 Messages for America:
1. Young People must remain courageous – this from his conversation with 17 year old Valerie Herrera who had been bullied most of her life because of a skin disease that caused blotches
2. Single Mothers should never be ashamed – He spoke to a single Mom and said “I know it’s not easy to be a single mother. I know that people can sometimes look askance at you. You’re a brave woman because you’re capable of bringing these two daughters into the world. You respected the life you were carrying inside you and God is going to reward you for that and he does reward for you for that. Don’t be ashamed. I congratulate you.”
3. A love of nuns - in great humour Pope Francis touched America by letting the world know that whilst he may be Pope it is women and especially nuns that run the Catholic Church.
4. Care for immigrants - with deepening concern, especially in Europe, about migrants and refugees this is perhaps more poignant now than ever before. Pope Francis demonstrated how immigrants must be loved and cared for by advocating for Catholic parishes to host refugees.
5. He wants to be close to us and needs our prayers – when speaking to a young man who had experienced both homelessness and joblessness Pope Francis was asked why his visit to the USA is so important and his reply was simple. Pope Francis wanted to be closer to the people of America so he could better the journey together.
An amazing and very down to earth Pope who wants to be seen as real this new figurine takes the realness to a whole new level. Produced using revolutionary techniques that uses thousands of layers of sandstone to create a superbly defined image and then delicately coloured to produce an amazing miniature likeness is just what the Pope himself would like because he himself is a many layered individual, delicately drawn and yet a sandstone solid man and thus this new offering from Franklin Mint is perhaps one of its best yet and may be for a long time to come.

Welcome to the USA Pope Francis!! Looking forward to The Papal USA visit 2015. I admire his courage, honesty and message of mercy. This could be the world's first 3D printed Pope. Made with love in collaboration with the Franklin-Mint. http://www.franklinmint.com/detail.php?p=894714 #Pope #collectible #Catholic
I am so proud to have played a small part in the making of possibly the world's first #3Dprinted #PopeFrancis collectible figurine. http://bit.ly/1EH0Cm1. We are very lucky to see such a powerful example of love and mercy in our lifetime. God bless Pope Francis. Welcome to the USA!!
Adobe demos upcoming Photoshop 3D magic at London print show
Everyone likes a sneak peek, and today Adobe obliged with a look at some new features it is working on for upcoming versions of its flagship image editor, Photoshop CC. These demos tend to generate a lot of buzz, and what better venue than the 3D Printshow in London to show off new capabilities that will eventually let Photoshop CC users, 3D printer manufactures and 3D print service providers use the 3D PDF and the SVX file formats for their workflows. Adobe also plans to offer 3D Hubs support built into Photoshop CC and a new printer profile for the Tinkerine… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web http://ift.tt/1K6QbG5

Before the discovery of atoms, it was believed that the five Platonic solids - tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and icosahedron - were the basic building blocks of matter.
In Wenzel Jamintzer’s 1568 Perspectiva Corporum Regularum, the goldsmith, artist, and printmaker illustrates various combinations of Platonic solids to create beautiful demonstrations of how the building blocks might come together to create the universe and everything in it.
Hyperallergic compares Jemintzer’s work to the art movement of Minimalism, though with 3D printing it is clear that mathematicians, educators, computers scientists and designers continue to be captivated by geometry and its physical manifestations.
3D printing has enabled tangible visualizations of difficult geometric concepts, such as manifold shapes and fractals. Jemintzer’s elegant geometric sketches take on new life as mind-bending 3D printed mathematical art.

Computational Hydrographic Printing
Method developed at Columbia University can accurately apply a print designed for specific surface shape from flat printouts. Interesting to note that this method can compliment 3D Printing with a standard home printer:
Hydrographic printing is a well-known technique in industry for transferring color inks on a thin film to the surface of a manufactured 3D object. It enables high-quality coloring of object surfaces and works with a wide range of materials, but suffers from the inability to accurately register color texture to complex surface geometries. Thus, it is hardly usable by ordinary users with customized shapes and textures. We present computational hydrographic printing, a new method that inherits the versatility of traditional hydrographic printing, while also enabling precise alignment of surface textures to possibly complex 3D surfaces.

No matter how attractively someone is dressed, invading their personal space is never okay. Designer Anouk Wipprecht uses this concept as the inspiration for her Spider dress, a 3D printed, chic garment outfitted with micro-controllers. The dress’ pronounced epaulettes feature arachnid-like, moving limbs that will jut out at anyone who gets too close. Wipprecht, who is based in the Netherlands, partnered with Intel to create the technology for this innovative, wearable piece.
