My heart says plots, but my head knows it's memes lmao. Less pressure makes starting a thread with others much easier. ☻: Which genres do you find the easiest to play? (angst, fluff, smut, etc.) Angst, lawd. It used to be what I exclusively wrote (whew). I think now, if I were to start fresh with folks, it... would still be angst actually fuck lmao. Old habits die hard.

Edward poked his fingers together. "I... Uh... Generally... N-n-no." He said after a moment. "Th-th-that's not to say it never happens!" He stammered and added. "And-and-and I know how I sound, but." He paused and caught his breath. "It can and does happen, I promise, but we don't know what causes it. It is something that the GMP are researching actively, as are various magical studies. I swear we are trying, and you have one of the best people possible to help you. But... I don't actually know how it happens." He said trying to be both honest and optimistic.

that was not the answer she wanted to hear.

What reassurances Edward followed with almost made it worse. There was yet a chance, according to him, but how and where to find it remained a mystery. A matter of getting lucky.

Trouble cast over her features like a thundercloud.

“The Jee-Em-Pe. Is that your cohort of mages?”

What did it matter? Was that information even going to be useful?

“Are we… nearly there? Talking, thinking about something else might do more good right now.”

'nother one of those sleepless nights. Feels better to be up than continuously tossing.

Edward looked at her for a moment. His brain processed for a bit. And then he closed up the trunk. "Ok. We can work with that." He said after a moments thought. "We'll eat somewhere closer to here." Edward thought quickly and motioned in one direction. "Follow me, if this is still open the food is perfectly edible."

Once they got walking Edward listened to Zimra and thought. "Uh... Fresh over? Mmm, eighty or so?" He said. "In general? I've lost track. I'm involved with local mystic rights groups so I have to talk with people who come over all the time. Though usually its after at least a few months or a few years on this side." Edward paused. "H-hopefully your stay won't be any longer than you want it to be! This area is very nice. You can stay for a bit!"

Tension keying up in Zimra's frame eased as a compromise was reached. They would find a place more nearby and avoid the vehicle altogether. Before long, her strides fell in time with Edward's; a subconscious effort.

And each step faded into the din of the city.

"You are rather involved."

The statement came out flat, not to the point of disinterest, but distraction. In truth, the last bit of Edward's answer struck something.

Staying here longer than necessary was unacceptable. Something lost, something important, demanded her return home. That required skills Zimra did not have.

"Are others successful returning home should they desire to, then?"

His phrasing suggested so, but she needed a direct answer. If the only way back was at the whim of the supernatural highway...

Edward was about to have a very, very stressed Zimra on his hands.

8 days later and I’m freeeeee

“Correct.” Edward said to the others assertation. “That hits the nail right on the head. It’s a…. Natural phenomenon, one that’s been happening for around 140 years.” Bit weird a ‘natural’ phenomena only existed that long, but hey.

“Wow hey, you’re a bit odd, lovely.” He said as he walked along. “We’re even. Also I’m rich, this meal costs me nothing. Maybe lodging will, but let’s at least talk it over while you’re full. I know a nice cafe that overlooks a stream.” As Edward said this he crossed over a grate with running water under it. “And it’s a nicer view than this.” His alleyway was asphalt some drain grates and some growing plants in cracks in the pavement. “Come on, this is a not great part of the world we’ll find somewhere nicer.” He said.

Eventually he made it to his car where he lifted his wagon and put it in the trunk. “How much do you trust me. I know a quiet place that’s a short ways from here, but I’d give you a ride. Or we can walk together and you wouldn’t be stuck in a moving vehicle with me.”

There was a strange comfort in knowing others have also experienced being uprooted and thrown wildly off-course. Small as it was.

His mention of wealth was noted, not that she intended to rob him, literally or otherwise, but at his assurance that they stood even, Zimra thought less of how to accrue the least amount of debt and more about the cafe.

Until they stopped at Edward’s ride.

“…”

Another metal chariot, just like the ones that crowded the streets prior to her arrival in the alleyway. Looking between it, the mage, and back again, Zimra shook her head.

Too enclosed.

“You have been especially helpful, but I would prefer to walk.”

There are limits to her trust.

“So,” she turned away from the vehicle, “how many like myself have you encountered?”

He did say this phenomenon has been occurring for over a century.

For just a moment, hearing those words brought the smallest smile to Venix's lips. For just a moment his eyes softened, and he felt an urge to rest his head against her shoulder and pull her close.

5 years of distance stayed his hands.

That.. that was a mistake.

"Why are you here, Zimra?" Venix made himself look up into her eyes.Gods she was still so beautiful. He tried his best not to let his conflicting emotions show on his face, not that it mattered much after... that.

"Why now?"

"I sought you because I..."

Her voice trailed off into a soundless breath. Every reason threatened to erupt out of her at once. Why now? She missed him. She needed him. He deserved an apology. He deserved so much more than to wake up to an empty bed.

He was the last thing she could call ‘home’.

“I have spent my whole life running.”

Reluctance wormed its way into her chest. What she was about to say, what she was about to admit, didn't come easily.

“From the sands, from my fears… Being with you brought a calm I have rarely known. Comfort. I feared the day the other shoe would fall. That our peace was a prelude to a storm that would steal you away from me. If I ran, if I disappeared--"

Zimra reached to take each of his hands, timorously lacing her fingers around them. When each word began to tumble over the last, she steadied herself with a long, deep inhale.

"I left… fleeing phantoms that never haunted us. My panic drove us apart. Venix..."

Resolve stared back at him.

“I don't want to run anymore.”

Edward sighed. If they didn’t know New York was a thing, that was an issue. Not knowing where they were in relation to the city? Whatever, stuff happens. Not knowing New York exists? That was concerning.

He sighed. “There’s another phenomenon. The supernatural highway. A route between universes. It likes to pick up people and drop them off places they don’t begin in.” He reached into his pocket. “Good. I do have the keys.” Taking the handle of his cart in his hand he motioned down the alleyway. “I would like to rid myself of having to bring around this cart. After that are you hungry or thirsty? Let’s talk, it’s on me.”

"You speak as if this happens frequently." At least, frequently enough he has a succinct explanation prepared.

Quite the contrast in comparison to where Zimra hailed. Conjuring doorways to far off places was a skill that only those of exemplary talents could master. To travel to an entire other world? Maybe something like that had been done before, but she would not know. Even so, this phenomenon seemed more a thing that simply existed rather than a creation derived from a mage's talents.

"Both," she quietly muttered. "But you needn't do that, I can..."

As she gripped her coin purse, the realization would dawn on her almost instantly; if this was another realm, what were the odds they'd accept her currency? In fact, it was kind of a miracle they could communicate--

Wincing, Zimra rubbed her temples once again. Thinking too much on it right now would only make her head pound. Best to take it one pace at a time, right? And so, she would turn, starting down the alleyway.

"I will have to find some way to repay you. Unless you accept oddities."

there is nothing wrong with enjoying smut. whether its memes, headcanons, musings, threads, whatever - you are allowed to post as much smut on your blog as you want. smut is not restricted to sundays. if people don’t like it, they can blacklist tags or unfollow. nobody can tell you how much smut you are or aren’t allowed to post. if you enjoy it, that’s all that matters, because at the end of the day, it’s your blog, & you write for you, not anyone else.

So replies may be a smidge slow in frequency. I am trying to restart my routine and that takes some work around… work.

Carpals

carpals. what small habits do they have ?

When deep in thought, Zimra will fiddle with her scarf, weaving the fabric back and forth between her fingers. She will also display this behavior when seeking some comfort.

When waking, the rogue will scan her surroundings, taking note of anything that's been tampered with.

She sleeps with one hand under her pillow. Always. This is for quick access to the knife she also keeps under there. However, if she somehow feels safe enough to forego that nightly ritual, Zimra will instead sleep on her side, extra pillow pulled into her middle.
