it wasn’t like she had to whisper, memphis would have had zero idea what she had even said to him. memhpis knew that he probably should have left the girl alone. he stood no chance and it wasn’t like he wanted to BE with her.. though he was a horny teen boy and he wouldnt have passed up the opportunity to have a night alone with her at least. “ouch! those are fighting words you know.” he joked.
“ the truth is HARD but it’s the TRUTH, ” she says unsympathetically. it sounds like a quote from somewhere, though kate doesn’t remember from exactly where ; just one of those pieces of old-age wisdom that doesn’t really have a source, probably. she could probably knock the ego out of him with a few words of her own simple truth --- but despite the part of her that’s tempted to, the other part thinks that maybe he doesn’t deserve that ; even if he’s annoyed her for the better part of a year and a half now. “ i’d call you resilient but i think it has to do more with you not understanding most of the criticism thrown your way than any actual resilience. ”
it was always a challenge when a girl played hard to get. it just meant that memphis would try even harder. he looked over at the blonde and smiled as the shirt slipped over his sweaty body. he used the bottom to wipe his face for a moment and then looked over at her. “how cute-” he said shaking his head. “i don’t even know what you mean by that but i will take it as a compliment.”
“ din jävla idiot --- ” she mutters under her breath. any other year and she might not be in this stupid town right now ( instead two thousand miles away where at least the boys tried to hit on her with class --- or at least that’s what she’d like to think ). her gaze finally does land on memphis, her notebook lazily closing on itself over her pen. “ it wasn’t, ” kate says, louder. “ you’re not even half as impressive as you think, you know. ”
savannah had invited the other over to hang out on a typical chill sunday afternoon. her backyard was like a hidden oasis and she was beyond comfortable lounging on one of the comfy chairs on the patio because it was better than being stuck inside. she plucked a piece of fruit from the platter sitting on the small table and popped it into her mouth. “if we had the ability to record and watch our dreams back, would you do it? that would be trippy as hell. i think it’d give it a try though, just because i can only remember bits and pieces, i’d like to see the full version. even though i know they’re supposedly kinda short but some of them can last like 20-30 minutes.”
kate is lounging back with her eyes closed to try to get some color into her pale skin --- without the constant worry of being ambushed in the process. she stirs at the question, rising up on one arm to face her companion. “ okay, but WOULD they really be short though ?? because that’s only how long they last in the real world. it always feels longer in the dream because your brain activity is faster. you know, like in INCEPTION. five minutes in the real world equals an hour in the dream ---- or something like that. ” she trails off, settling down again. “ i’d always thought it’d be more fun to lucid dream. and usually remembering your dreams happens along with it. two birds, one stone. ”
indigo was thankful when kate had suggested giving him a ride. he quickly canceled his uber and put the cigarette out. he pulled a bottle of cologne out of his bag and quickly gave himself two squirts before shoveling back in the bag and walking behind the blonde his both hands on his straps. “I appreciate it. my mom took me to get my licenses but she says I don’t need a car just yet. she’s too worried something is going to happen. although I told her I have a higher chance at getting ran over by a car she didn’t really believe me. “ he said shaking his head. “what were you out here for?” he asked her not noticing any shopping bags in her hand.
kate supposes if it had been left up to her mom, she also wouldn’t have a car either --- but hardly for safety reasons ; more like PUNISHMENT for not having a grand life’s purpose reason. “ YEAH --- ” she says simply, “ --- moms can be overbearing like that. ” she fiddles with her keys, the white jeep wrangler chirping when she unlocks it as they approach. a soft laugh escapes her, one hand pausing before she opens the driver’s side door. “ my brother bought me mine --- else i’d PROBABLY be catching ubers with you. and i was just supposed to meet someone ; didn’t quite go to plan. it’s alright. ”
memphis spent a lot of his time trying to impress the girls at school, though for most he didnt have to try too hard. he was after all a jock with a hot body.. and most just caved and fed into that.. though kate was different she didnt put up with his shit and that was usually want made him want to try even harder.. as he stepped off the field he slipped on his shirt slowly. “like what you see, baby?” he teased with a smile being a complete tool
it was almost CUTE that memphis thought he could even come close to the people kate knew ( ones who were far closer to ‘ making it ’ or already had ). of course, she also hadn’t bothered to tell him exactly why it was she found him so unimpressive -- beyond the obvious lack of brains. “ SURE ---- ” she says, gaze not lifting from the sketch in her notebook ( wildflowers in bunches ). “ ---- i’ve always wondered what a string bean would look like if it became sentient. ”
“Ok so it’s the weekend what are we doing? I’m not trying to stay in the house doing nothing there has to be a party or something. I’m trying to get my drink on and definitely include some pizza.” She sighed loudly as she looked over at the other one. Her need to have a bit of fun apparent.
kate idly turns the page in her notebook, pen inking out dark lines on the fresh white page. “ pretty sure YOU’RE the one with all the connects, lex ---- not me. ” she’s not upset about it, quite the opposite really. kate made her own choices on the matter -- loner by CHOICE. “ just drive around ‘til you find one. ‘s not like anyone going to turn you away. ”
kate made a point, he knew he was hiding it. he knew it wa wrong and he held enough guilt over it. “i know and i need to stop, i dont even know why i had ever tried it in the first place if we are being honest..” the male admitted. “it is nasty and destroying my body.” he said softly as he nodded. “Are you sure?” he asked her. “i dont want you to go out of your way.” he admitted. “don’t worry.. i wouldnt dare smoke a cigarette in anyones car.” he reassured her.
kate shrugs. he said it, not her ------ even if she does happen to agree with it. destroying the most important organs in her body didn’t appeal to her, but hey, to each their own, right ?? it’s not like she knew what was going on in this life. “ yeah, c’mon ---- ” it’s not like she has anything better to do, or can’t afford the gas. if anything it’s a RELIEF to have some purpose after her errand at the mall hadn’t quite gone to plan. “ just cancel the car and i got your back. ”
“i don’t have to buy my way into a college.. my talent will do that more for-” he corrected the blonde. “no one is looking any way for anyone. im not stupid.” though he was. his ability to read properly was a joke. maybe it was the fact that he had been hit in the head too many time by sports balls.. or maybe it was the fact that his parents hadn’t forced him into any learning once he picked up sports. “i just need to find away out of this shit.”
“ THAT wasn’t the point. ” she does look up at that, considering if she wants to put in the effort to actually explaining the point : the technical minimum gpa that needs to be maintained but the blind eyes that get turned even when they’re not met. nah, she doesn’t. why waste the time talking to a brick wall ?? “ all the brainpower going into thinking of ways you can avoid the work when you could just do it ---- the tragedy. ”
indigo was still nervous about anyone really knowing that he smoked. he hated that he did, and he had prayed that he could stop.. it was just hard being him and perfect all the time. it wasn’t like he was out doing actual bad things.. either way he was ashamed in his self for his bad habits and having to lie about it. “i know,” well he didn’t really know.. but he had assumed she wasn’t going to tell anyone. “i wasn’t really hiding-” he admitted. “i was just trying to get a couple puffs before by uber got here.”
“ if you don’t want someone to know something you have to hide it, ” she says simply. kate isn’t here to give a lecture or judge people or anything of the sort --- she has far better things to do, like consider the shapes of clouds and figure out the best way to prank her brother when she visits this weekend. “ you need a ride ?? i’ll do it for the super low price of NOTHING. ” gaze fixes on the joint in hand, nose wrinkling, “ you just can’t bring that with you. ”
the male frowned as he sat at the picnic table outside. after a moment he shut the school book and looked up at his company across from him. “this blows.” he said to them. “i still don’t know why i have to even take this summer school class.” he said rolling his eyes. “i don’t see how any of this is going to help me with my athletic career?” he said pushing the book away.
kate barely looks up from her task : carefully sewing a new patch onto her jacket --- nevermind that it was rapidly becoming far too warm for it. “ just because colleges will look the other way for the sake of an elite football team doesn’t mean that they should ---- you want to become part of the next ncaa scholarship SCANDAL ?? because that definitely can be arranged. ” she’s GOT the contacts --- or at least, the people who might know the right contacts ; if she cared so much to do so.
smoking was such a nasty habit, it was something that indigo would have never in a million years as a kid would have thought he would pick up. as he stood outside the mall waiting on is rude he took a hit off the cigarette before seeing the person push the door open. instantly he grew nervous, “oh-” he said softly waving the smoke away. “sorry..” he muttered. “please.. please don’t say anything to anyone.” he said not like the other even knew his parents. “my mom..dad.. pastor would die if they knew.”
“ do you know ANYTHING about me, indi ? i’m not a snitch. ” she doesn’t care enough about anything to get herself involved in something she can’t see the bottom to. unless she had her reasons for wanting revenge on someone ---- a breed of thought rarer than a blue moon. her hands wander instinctively toward where the pockets of her denim jacket would hang only to find air, the signature garment becoming unnecessary with the rising temperatures. she finally tucks them into the back pockets of her jeans instead as she regards her classmate. “ ---- though you really might want to think about finding a better hiding spot if you want to keep that a secret. ”
❛ lili reinhart. female. she / her. ❜ well, well, well, if it isn’t KATE SANDSTRÖM. people say the SEVENTEEN year old JUNIOR reminds them of SITTING IN SUNLIT CORNERS SCRIBBLING IN A JOURNAL, A HAND-EMBROIDERED OVERSIZED DENIM JACKET, PHONE CONVERSATIONS IN A LANGUAGE NO ONE ELSE CAN UNDERSTAND which makes sense since they’re often described as OBSERVANT, LAIDBACK, & APATHETIC. i just can’t wait to see the sort of trouble they end up in. ❛ ollie. 21. est. they/them. ❜
THE STORY:
— kate and her older brother matteo ( age 21 ) are both half-swedish ( their father ). they were both born in stockholm but grew up in boston, their father coaching hockey at boston university and then an assistant coach for the bruins. they spent and still spend their summers in a lakehouse in sweden just outside of stockholm ( kate’s favorite time of year ).
— the money in their family comes from the men playing hockey. their father oscar sandström had a lengthy 15 year career in the nhl as a middle six winger ; not one of the superstars, no, but respectable as a player, wore an A more often than not, and made a few million every season in the process, as you do. but the true superstar in the family is matteo, drafted 29th overall in the 2016 draft to continue the family legacy in boston, who after a season in the swedish elite league had an unpredicated breakout season in the first half of the season in the ahl, got called up to the nhl and never went back. teams are still kicking themselves for passing him up. he’s got an eight year, eight million dollar contract kicking in next season — and he’s only getting better.
— kate is nothing like her brother. her brother was one-track, laser focused on one dream his entire life… meanwhile kate has no clue what she’s doing. she’s good at plenty of things ( drawing, writing, lacrosse, math, yes– even hockey ) but she never pursued any of them hard enough to become EXCELLENT at any of them. jack of all trades, master of none, right?? she’s never been able to focus on one thing in her entire life, probably because she gets bored easily.
— this in particular led to her outcast in her own family. their mom especially started pushing kate to find “her passion” freshman year of high school, because she believed that everyone should have a life plan. but kate had no interest in trying to figure it out and it only led to more arguments and tension in the household, which turned to long silences with curt comments undermining kate’s character. her father was mostly absent, too busy coaching or something else, too busy to really care about his non-hockey playing child. matteo is only one in the family she really gets along with because he never pushes her and put up with her sometimes meaningless rambles. she’s lucky that he’s around a lot, even in season with the city so close. the year he was in sweden was very lonely for her.
— timeline wise, the family moved out of the city of boston to whitelake when she entered high school.
MISC:
— kate isn’t much for the high school athletic scene, though she did cheer for three weeks ( it wasn’t really her idea and she while she was good she didn’t like it ) before quitting, and then played lacrosse for her sophomore season ( she has no plans on picking it up again ).
— she doesn’t care much for the big shots on the football team either, preferring to go support her brother and the bruins in boston. she’s not vocal about her connection to matteo and the nhl though it’s probably not a secret either. it’s not something she flaunts but not something she hides — ya feel ? she’s super apathetic about who knows, if you know you know…
— she’s been writing more lately, both fiction and small sports pieces on the bruins. she keeps a blog that she posts occasionally on, just short funny stories and memoir pieces of things that happen in her life and with matteo ( with his permission, of course ). maybe that’s what she’ll pursue, but she doesn’t have much of a plan and despite her pushy parents, she also is lucky enough to not really need one.
— kate’s pretty much fluent in swedish, her and matteo grew up bilingual and going back to sweden every summer certainly helps. she has a slight accent when she returns in the fall from sweden ( mostly from speaking swedish all summer ), but it fades out pretty quickly.
— she drives a white jeep wrangler like the sporty legend she is ( jk not a legend, but she does drive a jeep ). the car was a birthday present from matteo over the summer.
— no one calls her katie. except maybe her brother.
— the best way to describe her is a loner by choice tbh. and a small amount of veronica mars vibes...
— constantly wearing the same oversized denium jacket that she’s constantly adding more embroidery and patches to. big fan of pairing it with a crop top tbh.
— she almost always carries around a small unlined notebook with her that she writes or draws in. she’s forgetful even at the best of times and find if she thinks of something genius, she better jot it down quickly.
OOC
