I've been working as a frontline social worker serving people experiencing homelessness and at-risk youth for seven years. During that time, I've never taken more than a week off work, even when I was hospitalized with Type 1 diabetes.

Right now, I'm struggling in ways that I haven't before. I'm struggling to accomplish work tasks, to empathize with my clients, and to show up every day to be a support. I am exhausted, experiencing severe burnout. My clients are vulnerable people, often other trans people, and I simply can't provide them the care they deserve while I'm in this state.

I've taken emergency mental health leave to address burnout, suicidal ideation, and substance use. My state's paid leave program is a wonderful resource, but payments can take time, as long as a month from today when I file. Until then, I'm worried about covering rent, groceries, and other basic expenses.

I don't want to return to full-service sex work to bridge that gap. It has been traumatic for me, and doing so again would mean putting myself back into situations I've worked hard to leave behind.

If you're able to help, your support will help me keep a roof over my head, buy groceries, and give me the time to recover without having to earn money in ways that are painful or dangerous for me.

i feel like with certain issues i'm willing to be patient with people and try to talk to them before resorting to blocking, but tbh unless i know them irl or they're a good online friend, it's an instant block if i see someone being fatphobic or hating on polyamory even in the "well-intentioned" and "reasonable" or "just uninformed" ways.

like with fatphobia and monogamy culture particularly, the level of hate that it's completely normal for even a lot of progressives and leftists to harbor towards fat and polyamorous people is astronomical, and so any discussion of these topics just devolves into people saying the most vile shit while having completely convinced themselves their bigotry is just "concern" and "being reasonable".

and also like personally. i'm fat and polyamorous, and in the realm of day-to-day conversations (especially as a healthcare worker), those two things are what i probably experience the most direct bigotry and hate over, even more than being a trans woman*. and in both cases most people view this hate as completely uncontroversial and reasonable. they look at you like you've grown a second head if you object, and they immediately stop listening to you at all. so i just don't have time for it anymore.

*this is not to say the transphobia and transmisogyny are not felt because oh my god they very much are, especially on a structural/policy level, but at least most of the open transphobes i encounter day-to-day are aware on a basic level that there are people who disagree with them.
