[Open RP] When the sun rises...

The Ministry was silent as the morning approached. Siblings of Sin were still sleeping in the early hours of the morning, and Ghouls were too preoccupied with their own business to notice the early birds.

Sanguis, on the other hand, was fully awake and already running errands. Loads of paperwork sat untouched on his desk, held steady by a half-empty cup of cappuccino. The ghoul was struggling to keep his eyes open after spending the entire night reorganizing the Ministry's archives.

"Oh Satanas, give me the strength to get shit done today..." He muttered as he picked up the papers nearest to him. He was so focused on reading the same sentence over and over again that he didn't notice the person approaching the door.

Mullion was startled into and brought to life when he heard shuffling around in the Ministry. He hadn't slept, preferring the night to the bustling day for all of his work, so he'd been musing about like a zombie for the better part of six hours. Before he could even realize what he was doing, he was hanging upside down by his tail outside your door.

"... Good morning. How do you look so busy already?" He snickered, eyes still squinted, glued shut with early morning drowsiness. He flipped, landing quietly on the balls of his feet before getting comfortable against the doorframe. He hummed to himself—pitifully out of tune, but that wasn't discouraging him much—as he searched for his goggles under his large work jacket. "And lucky ducky, you've already got coffee..."

Sanguis jumped on his chair, clearly startled by the sudden voice. "Oh geez! Mullion, you scared me; I wasn't expecting anyone so early in the morning." He straightened his posture and placed the papers on his desk, trying to make some space through all the chaos that covered it.

"I spent all night reorganizing the archives. Someone didn't care much for the alphabetical order, it seems, and it was bothering me a lot." Sanguis shook his head in disbelief.

The ghoul gestured towards another cup, placed on a nearby table, which seemed to have much less stuff on it. "Care for some cappuccino? I have another cup nearby and a few croissants as well, in typical Italian fashion."

"Yeah, well, I wasn't expecting anyone to be up this early, either. I was enjoying my quiet time." Mullion huffed dramatically, stretching out his legs behind him as he stood so that they let out the most uncomfortably loud popping sounds. "But hey, I guess it's nice to have another night ghoul around. I was up all night cartooning. My workshop is... a mess, safe to say."

His ears twitched, lightly slapping against the side of his head as he kept struggling to fully wake himself up. Once he processed what you said, though, he immediately started stalking into the room, sniffing at the coffee and croissants. He crouched beside your table and reached up to sneak a pastry off (well, not sneakily at all. His rings hit the plate several times, like a little bell choir, as he struggled to get ahold of it.).

He curled himself up into a comfortable little ball on the floor as he bit at his pastry, grinning and humming happy little ditties to the dust bunnies under the shelves. "... I mean, if you've got extra, I'll never say no to some coffee. I think I've got some extra cream in my bag..."

"Suit yourself; I might have overestimated my hunger this morning." Sanguis smiled as he stood up from his seat, carefully grabbed his cup, and sat next to Mullion. "I bet working all night was exhausting. If you need help with tidying up your workshop, let me know; I'll gladly lend you a hand rather than spend all day trying to forge Copia's signature.”

Sanguis' gaze shifted briefly to the towering pile of papers on his desk. "I tried to get him to sign the important ones, I really did, but he keeps avoiding it, so I have to do it myself somehow." The ghoul let out a small yawn and took a sip from his cup, hoping that the caffeine would be enough to get him through the day.

Mullion snickered to himself, imagining the fuss Frater must've made about signing the papers. Once he'd eaten half his croissant, he pulled off a small chunk of the back and offered it to you. It was a little unsettling—with the dark goggles, he either looked way too confident in himself or as blank as an old, faded doll. "That's alright. I get a little... specific about where I keep all my things." He grinned, showing off his small, sharp tusks.

But the weight of sleep still kept him bundled up in his work jacket, head lolled over and resting on the back of his hand. "... Has Copia even left his office in the last few days? I swear, I never hear that man open his door more than an inch, if even that! He's like a ghost..." Mullion huffed, his cheeks puffing a bit as he plopped his chin down on his knees. "It's kind of boring."

Sanguis nodded, as he also had his ways of organizing his own things. He accepted the small croissant piece with a smile and ate it in one big bite.

"Not even the Dark One knows, I'm afraid." The ghoul shook his head. "As far as I'm concerned, he locked himself in there doing Satana knows what. I think he's just... mad? Disappointed?" Sanguis shrugged and took the last sip out of his cup. "Hard to tell since he won't receive anyone besides the ghouls that bring him food."

Sanguis' tail twitched, revealing a hint of annoyance that he was unsuccessfully attempting to conceal. The sheer amount of administrative work that  Copia was neglecting was all weighing down on his shoulders, and the ghoul was starting to feel the pressure.

Mullion shrugged, tapping his toes against the floor playfully as he tried to get more thoughts flowing through his brain. He ran his fingers slowly through his dark mane of hair, all the greys jumping out in the light.

"... Y'know, I'm pretty good at forging signatures, if you ever need any help. I had to do it for years when my—" He cut himself off, taking a deep breath and pretending to clear his throat before he continued. "I just had to help out with some of that paperwork years ago when it got too hard for the Papa to spend hours signing things. Sure, these are more important documents than the autographs I was worrying about, but I could try."

Mullion sighed, stretching his legs straight out in front of him and slowly bending over them to get his back to pop like a roll of bubble wrap. He laughed as soon as the tension was relieved. "Sorry. I guess I haven't been any more active than Copia these last few weeks. Rough time of year with... everything going on."

"You would??" Sanguis dropped to his knees, tail and wings flapping excitedly, and hands raised as if in prayer. “I beg you, please help me to get at least the few urgent ones signed. I can't for the life of me forge Copia's signature; my handwriting is terrible.”

Realizing too late that his emotions had caused him to react in an unprofessional and embarrassing manner, the ghoul awkwardly sat back in his chair, grateful that his makeup could conceal the redness on his face.

"I—uhm... Sorry about that." He let out a quick laugh. "It's only a few pages, and I need them signed by the end of today. I can sign the rest of the paperwork myself. Is there any way I can repay you for the favor? I owe you a big one."

Mullion sat stunned at your reaction for a good, uncomfortably silent minute before smiling softly. He cocked his head to the side, ears twitching curiously as he looked down at you. He gently knocked his palm against your head, encouraging you to look up and not look too reverent.

He sat back against the wall, arm resting over his knee. The tip of his tail wagged slowly beneath your chair. "Oh, dear, please. I'd be happy to sign those for you and get everything pushed out—hell, if you'd be so kind to... turn the lights down a bit, I might even be able to read a little closer and make sure everything's really to your liking." Mullion sighed, running his gloved fingers slowly through his mane of silvery black hair.

"And if you're that set on repaying me, I'm sure I could find some way for you to assist me. After all, a good young ghoul like you could help with a lot of things." He shrugged, standing from his place slowly and resting his hand lightly on your shoulder to steady him as he moved toward the pile of urgent papers. "How many do you need?"

Sanguis dashed to his desk and grabbed a stack of papers from the pile, handing them to Mullion along with a pen. "Sign here, here... and here." The ghoul pointed to a few blank spaces near the bottom of the pages.

"Just these ones, thank you so much." He scratched his head, still embarrassed by the circumstances. "Sorry, I know I should have taken care of these myself, but thank you so much for helping. And if you need my assistance with anything—I mean anything—please do let me know."

Sanguis' tail wagged nervously behind him as he hoped he didn't give the wrong impression of himself. Finding himself burdened with responsibilities he shouldn't be thinking about was not helping Sanguis' nerves at all, and he recognized that he may be acting inappropriately.

"One thing I'm certain of is that once these papers are signed and ready, I'll go for a walk in the garden to get some fresh air." He murmured.

"Oh, no, no, my dear. Please, don't fret. It's not that big of a—" Mullion stopped abruptly as the papers fell heavy into his hands. He looked down slowly, almost not wanting to see how many there were. The tip of his tail started wagging with benign humor. "This is nothing! I can have this done... within the day, I bet. I assure you, dear, it's alright. If you like, you can... go ahead and take your walk while I work."

Mullion shrugged, starting to sign each paper quickly without looking down, but his pen managed to hit relatively close to the line each time. Enough to be acceptable. "Or, if you prefer, I know a wonderful route through that garden—well, I'd hope I did. I've been working on it for nearly 50 years, now, so wouldn't that be pitiful if I didn't know how to navigate? Anyway, I know this gorgeous, oh, this just divine little route..."

He sighed wistfully as he signed the papers and rifled through the packets to make sure there were no extra clauses in the fine print. The dim lights of the office danced off his welding goggles, lighting the layered lenses up like molten glass. It was like the words he was trying to say completely left his mind as he stared at you blankly, considering you.

"... You seem like a very nice young ghoul. Remember, only do what's expected of you and never more. It may be a ministry, but it's also a work—... wait, right, the garden!"

Mullion laughed at himself, stretching out his arms before he resumed his quick signing and signing and signing. "There's a nice path that goes past all the loveliest flowers, and it takes you to this pretty little willow. A great place for a picnic if you need to decompress."

Sanguis observed intently as Mullion signed the papers, impressed by the resemblance of the forged signatures to the real ones. "I'd love for you to show me around. I haven't been to the garden in a long time."

His tail gently swung behind him at the thought of exploring. "To be honest, I don't think I've ever spent more than a few minutes there. I've always been confined to my room or office... I wasn't allowed to roam the Ministry by myself until Terzo intervened, and even then it took a while until I felt brave enough to walk around without asking for permission."

Sanguis let out a small, embarrassed laugh, and his face briefly took on a depressing look before he returned to his happy self. "Papa Nihil wanted me to focus entirely on learning ritual magic, so he raised me isolated from the rest of the Ministry for, well, a long time..."

The ghoul paused briefly, lost in his memories. "Things are different now, though. But I still haven't been able to properly explore the garden with all of that bureaucracy that needs to be taken care of on the daily. So yes, I would be really happy to go on a walk through the garden with you, if you want to, of course."

Without him realizing, Sanguis' tail wrapped tightly around his leg. It was an old habit he developed as a child to alleviate his anxiety, and to the ghoul it felt as though someone was giving him a tight hug.

"Sorry. I guess I haven't been any more active than Copia these last few weeks. Rough time of year with... everything going on."

"You would??" Sanguis dropped to his knees, tail and wings flapping excitedly, and hands raised as if in prayer. “I beg you, please help me to get at least the few urgent ones signed. I can't for the life of me forge Copia's signature; my handwriting is terrible.”

Realizing too late that his emotions had caused him to react in an unprofessional and embarrassing manner, the ghoul awkwardly sat back in his chair, grateful that his makeup could conceal the redness on his face.

"I—uhm... Sorry about that." He let out a quick laugh. "It's only a few pages, and I need them signed by the end of today. I can sign the rest of the paperwork myself. Is there any way I can repay you for the favor? I owe you a big one."

The Ministry was silent as the morning approached. Siblings of Sin were still sleeping in the early hours of the morning, and Ghouls were too preoccupied with their own business to notice the early birds.

Sanguis, on the other hand, was fully awake and already running errands. Loads of paperwork sat untouched on his desk, held steady by a half-empty cup of cappuccino. The ghoul was struggling to keep his eyes open after spending the entire night reorganizing the Ministry's archives.

"Oh Satanas, give me the strength to get shit done today..." He muttered as he picked up the papers nearest to him. He was so focused on reading the same sentence over and over again that he didn't notice the person approaching the door.

Mullion was startled into and brought to life when he heard shuffling around in the Ministry. He hadn't slept, preferring the night to the bustling day for all of his work, so he'd been musing about like a zombie for the better part of six hours. Before he could even realize what he was doing, he was hanging upside down by his tail outside your door.

"... Good morning. How do you look so busy already?" He snickered, eyes still squinted, glued shut with early morning drowsiness. He flipped, landing quietly on the balls of his feet before getting comfortable against the doorframe. He hummed to himself—pitifully out of tune, but that wasn't discouraging him much—as he searched for his goggles under his large work jacket. "And lucky ducky, you've already got coffee..."

Sanguis jumped on his chair, clearly startled by the sudden voice. "Oh geez! Mullion, you scared me; I wasn't expecting anyone so early in the morning." He straightened his posture and placed the papers on his desk, trying to make some space through all the chaos that covered it.

"I spent all night reorganizing the archives. Someone didn't care much for the alphabetical order, it seems, and it was bothering me a lot." Sanguis shook his head in disbelief.

The ghoul gestured towards another cup, placed on a nearby table, which seemed to have much less stuff on it. "Care for some cappuccino? I have another cup nearby and a few croissants as well, in typical Italian fashion."

"Yeah, well, I wasn't expecting anyone to be up this early, either. I was enjoying my quiet time." Mullion huffed dramatically, stretching out his legs behind him as he stood so that they let out the most uncomfortably loud popping sounds. "But hey, I guess it's nice to have another night ghoul around. I was up all night cartooning. My workshop is... a mess, safe to say."

His ears twitched, lightly slapping against the side of his head as he kept struggling to fully wake himself up. Once he processed what you said, though, he immediately started stalking into the room, sniffing at the coffee and croissants. He crouched beside your table and reached up to sneak a pastry off (well, not sneakily at all. His rings hit the plate several times, like a little bell choir, as he struggled to get ahold of it.).

He curled himself up into a comfortable little ball on the floor as he bit at his pastry, grinning and humming happy little ditties to the dust bunnies under the shelves. "... I mean, if you've got extra, I'll never say no to some coffee. I think I've got some extra cream in my bag..."

"Suit yourself; I might have overestimated my hunger this morning." Sanguis smiled as he stood up from his seat, carefully grabbed his cup, and sat next to Mullion. "I bet working all night was exhausting. If you need help with tidying up your workshop, let me know; I'll gladly lend you a hand rather than spend all day trying to forge Copia's signature.”

Sanguis' gaze shifted briefly to the towering pile of papers on his desk. "I tried to get him to sign the important ones, I really did, but he keeps avoiding it, so I have to do it myself somehow." The ghoul let out a small yawn and took a sip from his cup, hoping that the caffeine would be enough to get him through the day.

Mullion snickered to himself, imagining the fuss Frater must've made about signing the papers. Once he'd eaten half his croissant, he pulled off a small chunk of the back and offered it to you. It was a little unsettling—with the dark goggles, he either looked way too confident in himself or as blank as an old, faded doll. "That's alright. I get a little... specific about where I keep all my things." He grinned, showing off his small, sharp tusks.

But the weight of sleep still kept him bundled up in his work jacket, head lolled over and resting on the back of his hand. "... Has Copia even left his office in the last few days? I swear, I never hear that man open his door more than an inch, if even that! He's like a ghost..." Mullion huffed, his cheeks puffing a bit as he plopped his chin down on his knees. "It's kind of boring."

Sanguis nodded, as he also had his ways of organizing his own things. He accepted the small croissant piece with a smile and ate it in one big bite.

"Not even the Dark One knows, I'm afraid." The ghoul shook his head. "As far as I'm concerned, he locked himself in there doing Satana knows what. I think he's just... mad? Disappointed?" Sanguis shrugged and took the last sip out of his cup. "Hard to tell since he won't receive anyone besides the ghouls that bring him food."

Sanguis' tail twitched, revealing a hint of annoyance that he was unsuccessfully attempting to conceal. The sheer amount of administrative work that  Copia was neglecting was all weighing down on his shoulders, and the ghoul was starting to feel the pressure.

Oh, that's a great question! I'm not superstitious per se, but I always bring a good luck charm with me. It's a tiny bat plushie that Sister Imperator gave me when I was still a little baby.
