What happened to rectify? I loved the comic but it hasn't gotten any updates in awhile
Rectify is still on hiatus. I have not abandoned it, and I do want to make some sort of a return one day, though I don't know exactly when or in what capacity.
The longer answer is that while I do want to return to it, I'm not currently sure to what extent I can, in terms of fully finished color pages like they used to be.
Making Rectify was great - I loved the art I was able to create, and I loved reading everyone's comments on my first attempt at an original story.
I've talked about it a little, just here on tumblr, but making Rectify was also sort of slowly killing me a little, just from the stress of trying to get pages ready in time for updates. Every minute of my free time went into making the comic, and when that wasn't enough, I had to sacrifice every other activity that I enjoyed. I didn't have time for other art, or playing video games, or any other actives that took me away from my desk. When I was out shopping or spending time playing Dnd, I was only thinking about how I was not spending time working on Rectify.
Then I started sacrificing sleep. Then I had a lot of life changes happen - all good things, but stressful thing, like a job change, planning a wedding, and moving. I'm sure that keeping up with Rectify was not the sole source of my stress, but it was big component.
My physical health started to really decline, and I just had to stop.
I do want to return to it because I did have a lot more story to tell.
I've had some new pages sketched, but I'm still stuck on which direction to take it art-wise.
I started Rectify back in August of 2017 - it's coming up on 9 years, and I haven't even completed three chapters. I'm not even like, halfway done. Maybe not even a quarter.
I started an 'epic' sized story for my first project, and it took this long for the magnitude of it to hit me.
I've thought about continuing with a faster art style, though it would look drastically different, and I don't know if old readers would like it, or if new ones would. It'd certainly loose me the early access benefits I had at tapas, too, but at least pages could get made?
I don't know. Regardless of what path I choose going forward, it will include some sort of compromise in the finished look of pages.
Thank you for asking, though, really. Making a webcomic or like, any original stuff on the internet can kind of be a thankless task. I really am always happy to hear that people liked it.
I truly appreciate every reader I had. Every comment motivated me to push myself for another page. Even the comments about my spelling mistakes lol.
