Sleep wouldn’t come to him that night, not after the fright the company had been put through only hours before. Every time his eyes closed all he could see was his brother and uncle drifting further away from him, out of his reach. With a weary sigh, he eased himself up from where he laid to sit before the dying fire to stare into the weakening flames.
Bofur assumed that everyone was asleep from the silence that filled the sight where they took refuge for the night. While he should have been one of the sleeping dwarves, Bofur remained awake to keep watch in case they were discovered in the night. Which led the dwarf to notice Kili who seemed distracted as he sat before the faltering fire. From where he sat, there was little distance between himself and Kili which made for good conversation that would not awaken the others. “Y’ alright there?” He asked, keeping a quiet tone to his voice.
Kili wasn't naive enough to believe the journey to reclaim Erebor was going to be easy but still the rock giants had shaken him to the core like nothing else previously in his life. The thought of losing what little family he had was gut wrenching. He was startled out of his morose thoughts as Bofur spoke up from beside him, the young dwarf jerking around to face the man. "Aye, I'm fine, just a little wound up from before is all," he whispered with a small smile.
