JON SNOW & SANSA STARK : FIRST → LAST (Insp.)
favorite ttpd lyrics
how dare you think it's romantic, leaving me safe and stranded...
[Guy insults Jon] Jon: I don’t give a shit, I have bigger issues.
[Guy insults Sansa] Jon: What the fuck did you just fucking say, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Nights Watch, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids beyond the Wall, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me? Think again, fucker-
Arriving at Snow and Leaving Behind Stone...
I was just rereading some bits of Feast and came across something potentially interesting in Alayne’s last chapter…another foreshadowing of Sansa’s reclamation of self, her return north, but also a return to Jon Snow…
The ways in which Jon Snow makes an appearance in this chapter have already been well noted, and are quite clear. First, quite literally:
[..] Oh, and the Night’s Watch has a boy commander, some bastard son of Eddard Stark’s.” “Jon Snow?” she blurted out, surprised. “Snow? Yes, it would be Snow, I suppose.” She had not thought of Jon in ages. He was only her half brother, but still…with Robb and Bran and Rickon dead, Jon Snow was the only brother that remained to her. I am a bastard too now, just like him. Oh, it would be so sweet, to see him once again. But of course that could never be. Alayne Stone had no brothers, baseborn or otherwise.

Jon x Sansa - Eye contact
But really the thing about Jon and Sansa scenes is how they’re always matching energy. What’s even more extra is that a good number of their scenes don’t start out that way.
Their reunion was super sweet but at the beginning you can tell they’re a bit uneasy around each other. They small talk until Sansa asks what’s very obviously been on her mind the entire scene: “soooo are you planning to leave me now?” Jon answers so quickly and confidently that you can see Sansa in relative disbelief that someone finally wants to protect her. They share this gazing look because the dialogue earned this comfort and relief.
The second set of gifs starts out with Jon feeling indebted to Sansa for saving him in the BotB and Sansa feeling shame for calling on Littlefinger for help. Neither of them were in a particularly happy place at the start. Then Sansa apologized and Jon made her see that she didn’t need to feel sorry for saving them. Jon felt indebted and Sansa made him realize that he doesn’t have to feel like he needs to do everything on his own and she validates his place in House Stark. They end up gazing like this because the dialogue earned that happiness and ease with each other.
The third set of gifs starts out with Jon feeling rather comfortable with his planning for the battle and Sansa not feeling heard and feeling unable to contribute because of that. Then Jon doubles down because he’s trying to do this all on his own. His trust level is not very high…he just got murdered…so it’s understandable. The same can be said of Sansa. She hasn’t wanted to communicate with LF so it was already painful for her to ask for his aid. She doesn’t know if he’ll actually show up. So she’s got nothing to go to Jon with on that front…yet she does know Ramsay and feels ignored. The stakes are high. Jon wants Sansa to survive. Sansa wants Jon to survive. But they don’t fully trust each other yet. So they end this scene feeling desperate and pessimistic because they so desperately want to make the other safe but they don’t know how to say it yet. The heavy-breathing stare looks and feels dramatic because the dialogue earned this angst and nervousness.
The last set is probably my favorite. They are both very very close to saying something that they just haven’t been able to say yet. “What are we?” is written all over their faces. With everything they’ve been through together in a relatively short amount of time, it’s fairly obvious they’ve never been able to sit still long enough to think about what this other person means to them. The subtext, the subtext, the subtext. Sansa understands that Jon needs her. Jon understands that he needs her. I think the twist through S7 is Sansa realizing that she needs Jon. But in this very moment? Sansa’s look is asking Jon for a commitment to their partnership - and Jon’s look is agony at what that means. He desperately wants to say something and can’t. THIS is the angst. Sansa’s attempt to fully get through to Jon and Jon’s desire but self-denial are obvious because the dialogue earned this longing and melancholy.
There’s a reason Jonsas see their relationship the way we do. These moments in isolation have romantic vibes. Stacked again and again, it becomes an established pattern. The uncomfortable attraction on display by the actors just can’t be brushed off by some of us because the gazing is rooted and earned by the nature of their interactions. Love does come in at the eyes, especially in television. Yet, it’s not just the looks…it’s EVERYTHING AROUND the looks that makes it impossible to unsee.
…and it hurts like hell.

tell me, who manipulated whom?
And I still want to know why the fuck this smile if not for Pol!Jon?!?!
honestly, this scene doesnt make any sense without pol!jon
I think they were confirming political Jon, they just kept it ambiguous for DT stans and EC. I honestly didn’t go into season 8 expecting political Jon. I figured they wrote a stupid and bland romance that required Jon to be out of character, but just chalked it up to the poor writing and execution. It was only after looking at season 8 as a whole that I ended up believing political Jon was real. The idea he loved her ended up seeming more far-fetched to me. Notice how Jon doesn’t tell D he loves her before he kills her? That just doesn’t make sense if he did love her to not say it once for real, as she didn’t believe it (nor did the general audience) the single time he said it because it was in direct response to her threats. I also think Sansa’s look of realization shows Jon didn’t tell Sansa he loved D. She directly asked if he bent the knee for the North or because he loved her. Seems like at most he gave a non-answer. If he had sincerely confessed to being in love with her to Sansa when she asked, she wouldn’t have been swayed by this line. Sansa wouldn’t have been happy and smiling to herself because she already would have known for certain that Jon wasn’t manipulating D’s feelings. That was really one thing that cinched it for me (that and Jon’s avoidance of “I love you”).
Political!Jon was never going to be Jon deviously scheming and rubbing his hands together cackling about his evil plan to use Dany for his own agenda. It was always in the subtext, an underlying truth that kept Jon’s character upright and somewhat removed from Dany’s darkness, despite his association with her. Unfortunately D&D are not as good at writing subtlety as GRRM is and I think this is why Jon’s characterisation in S7 and S8 is all over the place - it should have been clear that Jon would never condone literally any of the actions Dany takes and they do show his desperation in trying to secure her help, but in between that, they did not know how to negotiate Jon’s character with the fact tha the needed to get her on his side. Having not much time to play it all out properly probably contributed to this, but they still dropped these scenes implying that Jon and his alleged ‘love’ for Dany was not at all what it seemed. Otherwise, Sansa had zero business laughing at that exact moment. Zero. Unless it was to at least make clear that she knows something that we don’t know.
if ramsay wins...i am not going back there alive…do you understand me? …i wont ever...let him touch you again...i’ll protect you, i promise.

The artist Denis Maznev is back with a new series of ASOIAF characters.
These are my favorite pieces so far:
Sansa Stark: Blood of the North
Jon Snow: The Black Bastard of the Wall
Denis Maznev used to be active on Tumblr, you can still visit his blog here. But now you can find him on Instagram and Deviant Art as denkata5698.
I love this artist because Sansa is one of his top 3 favorite characters so he draws her a lot, you can check his famous piece of Alayne Stone here. But also because back in late 2012 he draw a piece of Jon and Sansa that I call ‘foreshadowing art’. The piece, now sadly deleted from Deviant Art, depicted Jon and Sansa together, wearing very similar outfits to the ones wore by the Show characters during their reunion in Season Six that was aired in 2016, more than 3 years after the art piece was drawn.
Thanks the Seven Gods, I found two blogs that posted the Jon and Sansa piece, here on Tumblr, before the original source was deleted.
This one posted by denn-stonem on 27 December 2012, without source.
And this one posted by viictoireweasley on july 17th 2013, providing the source.
