The Mike one made me cackle!
sorry for accidentally getting really obsessed with a straight ship during pride month. in my defense theyāre freaks.
Theyāre freaks and thatās why I like them.
I just love them so much idc what happened on the screen. Theyāre married in my head.
Sometimes I think about how the Veep writers tried to make Amy seem undesirable by any stretch of the imagination with all of the really vile insults hurled at her (and yes, everyone got insultedābut it really felt different in the Mandel-seasons with Amy), all the while Anna Chlumsky was just walking around looking like this.
Youāre telling me Dan Egan said no to this????
Am I allowed to do this with my own tags?
Here are all the Dan x Amy scenes from season 1-6 (including deleted scenes). I hope you enjoy!

Anna Chlumsky Chats About The Final Season Of The HBO Show, āVeep
Anna on Dan x Amyās relationship in season 7 and working with Reid.
@3:57
Interviewer: And you have taken Amy on such an amazing ride, I mean sheās been up, sheās been down.
Anna: Or, sheās taken me.
Interviewer: Well, thats true. Sheās been with Selina, sheās taken time on her own. And now we left last season, with her revealing to Dan Egan. Her nemesis/I donāt know what they are, that sheās pregnant with his baby.
Anna: Yes she is, yes she is. Interviewer: Can we talk about this?
Anna: Well yeah, what would u like to know? Where do we start?
Interviewer: I just donāt know how these characters are going to handle this. Iām so nervous for them.
Anna: I know, Iām nervous for any progeny of them. Yeah, I feel you. Iām totally in the same boat. I do think that Amy and Dan donāt believe in love, but what they have is love as best that they can do this. You know what I mean, thatās why it never makes sense and we never know what to call it and they donāt know what to call it. Because itās not even in their vocabulary what it is that they have felt for each other for all these years and so then, it just takes all these different shapes, which is delightful to watch and Iām sure theres at least several people out there in the world that can relate. You know, so yeah I think itās all this real life stuff that makes them have to examine everything thats come up ātill now. Interviewer: I do love that weāre going to get to see the real life because we see them in their roles so much professionally. We see little bits and pieces of their personal life but its always sort of quick. Anna: Well, they barely have a personal life Interviewer: Yeah, they barely have one and now theyāre sort of having to deal with and Iām excited to see them sort of outside office a little bit dealing with real life. Anna: Yeah thereās some figuring out to do in this season for them.
@5:48
What is it like working with Reid Scott because your dynamic is so fun to watch and you guys seem like really great scene partners. Anna: Yeah. Oh, yeah. I think we have. I mean honest to goodness, i was there for the chemistry read back in the beginning. A chemistry read for anybody who isnāt in this industry is when youāre auditioning for characters sometimes theyāll ask several of the people who theyāre looking at for the characters to read together to see the chemistry. So yeah, I think we probably noticed that we were good scene partners from the get-go and that was important because Arm and all the writers did expect the Amy/Dan kind of relationship to live on in someway. They even wrote it so that before the series began, there was some history. So yeah, it was always sort of on purpose and he was great to play with, yeah. When we finished this season/series, theres an episode where you can tell. This is it, oh this is it, this is the moment where we understand Amy and Dan and we both felt that very much. There are some lovely tender moments for them in our way. Itās still Veep. Interviewer: Thereās still gonna be f-bombs. Yeah, theyāre not the cleanest of individuals where it comes to their souls.
Jesus. The way she dances around those questions lmao ššš.
Iām so glad I wasnāt around for this era. I know where I was and it was already not a good space mentally LMAO. This might have destroyed me ššš

Iām so going to miss these.
Man looking back at this shit, this bait? From the official channels? Knowing where this is going? Yeesh. Bad look man.
Even if they as a show and network said, weāre not doing Damy, itās nasty work to make fun of your audience quite like this.
I think the overwhelming wallowing over The 100 across my fandom hangouts kinda put me in the mood for some fandom and TV self reflecting today⦠I donāt watch The 100 so I canāt really understand the disappointment thatās taken over per se, but overall I can relate to the feelings Iām seeing. After all Iāve been in fandom long enoughā¦
Anyhoo⦠I digress. The point I wanted to make is that this self reflecting I speak of, resulted in me deleting all of VEEP from my files todayā¦Ā
Mind you this was done with a heavy, HEAVY, heart. I had the episodes in the folder, collecting dust and taking up precious memory space for the last 17months. And this was a show that for seasons 1 through 4 I would revisit often. A show that for its first 4 season I considered masterpiece televisionā¦Ā But Mandel managed to strip all the things that made me genuinely love it; all the things that gave it layers and a nuance and depth; all the things that made VEEP special.
Today I realised I didnāt feel like ever watching any of it again. Not even the Iannucci seasons. That in 3 years Mandel managed to undo all the greatness from even before his tenure, is I think what upsets me the most about the downfall of VEEP. Ā Usually when shows have had that same fate where the change in showrunners made irreparable damage, I can still look back on the good stuff (Gilmore Girls for example. Or T70sS). Not VEEPā¦Ā
I think the fact that Mandellās VEEP can hide behind its passable mimicry of Iannucciās dialogue is why. Because on the surface this hollow, shallow, erratic, hysterical, pod version of VEEP can on the surface pass as the good VEEP. And itās that mockery that makes of the showās first 4 seasons, that really gets me and tarnishes the whole thing for me.
It always bums me out when I realise Iāve fallen out of love with a show like this. Especially one that I used to hold in as high regard as I did VEEP in those first 4 seasons.
Man. As a new fan of Veep, this is what I mean when I say I feel like Iām walking in the ruins of Pompeii as I look through the tags and scroll through fandom blogs that havenāt been updated in 5-6 years.
A bad ending can really suck the life out of a fandom.
thinking about veepās timeline in s7
#according to fandom wiki amy and dan slept together in oct and then in jan she tells him sheās pregnant#so she would have been 3 months or almost 3 months#and the abortion ep takes place in may so she would have been 7 months along#and according to iowaās abortion laws she wouldnāt have been able to get one#amy x dan#dan x amy#veep#ALSO if amy wanted an abortion i highly doubt sheād wait that fucking long to get one#given her and danās relationship itās even plausible that she would get one and not even tell him she was pregnant š¤·āāļø#anyway this is my case for why s7 isnāt canon lmao#itās after 2am and i havenāt slept lol
I am so late, but the old Damy/veep people need to know, newbies are still arriving and are ALSO bitter!
7 Days Until Veep Season 7!
Trawling the Damy tag and seeing the posts excited about these two in s7 is like walking around a city after it was ravaged by a natural disaster.
There was life here once š„²
I just want someone to look at me the way Dan Egan looks at Amy Brookheimer being sassy
I love him so much
Why do you think Mandel messed up Dan so badly? All the other characters make some sense.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think Mandel just fundamentally misconstrued what made Dan an interesting character to watch.
Because for the first four years Danās presentation isā¦sneaky. The audience is apt to take him at his word in the first episode - that he is every bit as brilliant as he thinks he is, and likely to become Mikeās (and Amyās) boss in the near future - for the chief reason that unlike every other man in the show, he looks like our cultureās vision of success. (This isnāt just about Reid Scottās looks either - itās at least as much to do with presentation - Dan is the only man in the show to have properly tailored suits, and suits that flatter him - dress Dan like Jonah and weād have a very different view of the character).
What made Dan interesting - especially in season three - is that he was actually kind of a deconstruction. Because sure, he looked like a strong-jawed, confident, fast-talking, tall drink of waterā¦but he was fundamentally a fuck-up.
He seemed like someone who should be successful, and so people (in and out of the show) tended to assume that he was, and listened to him as though he was intelligent - despite the fact that every single one of his schemes invariably blew up in his face (particularly in season 1, when, not coincidentally, heās at his most arrogant and self-focused).
Thatās not to say he wasnāt smart - because he absolutely was - but he was too erratic and too self-obsessed to make a success of things. It was only when he got over himself a little, and started willingly allowing Amy to lead him, that he became even remotely consistent.
Similarly, Dan might have presented himself as a ruthless womaniser, but going by the first four seasons, itās fairly clear that he was besotted by Amy from very early on. His emotional attachment to her is sufficiently intense that her dating Ed is a significant factor in his considering leaving Selina in season 2. Now, he may not have known that he was in love with Amy, but I think that was kind of the point - that he was so enamoured with a particular image of himself, that it kept him from seeing his true feelings (which were more than obvious to everyone around him).
Thatās why Iannucciās Dan was always most interesting - and entertaining - to watch when he was losing. All of the early Veep characters are archetypal, and Dan was a deconstruction of a very particular type of man who get involves in politics - hence the showās constant focus on his inherent limitations, as well as his unconscious self-sabotage. The point of Dan the character was to show how that kind of man was fundamentally inadequate for the task at hand - and, to a much lesser extent, show that the natural route out of those inadequacies (down which he would only be dragged kicking and screaming) was collaboration with other people, especially women (this doesnāt only mean a romantic connection with Amy by any means, thatās just the most prominent example).
Whereas, I feel that Mandel saw Dan almost as a fantasy figure. Like, wouldnāt it be great to say the things he says, and do the things he does, and still be rewarded with Anna Chlumskyās eternally loving gaze and endless money and success?
As a result, the presentation of the character becomes completely unbalanced the longer Mandel writes him. Being a satirical show, the audience naturally feels that Danās actions ought to serve a purpose within the satire. The problem is that because the way heās presented is so celebratory (even in that awful scene where he introduces Amy to his āgirlfriendā the way itās presented has an undertone of āisnāt it awesome how terrible he is?ā that is incredibly jarring) itās hard to read it as a critique of anything (depict that scene from Laylaās perspective, showing her horrified realisation of just who she was dating, and it would have worked - instead of having her brainlessly react to his behaviour as though it was remotely normal - but that would require a woman reacting to Dan in a way that made him seem unattractive, and the show was unwilling to do that).
You end up feeling not that Dan is a critique of entitled privileged white guys, but that the writers wish they had the freedom given to entitled privileged white guys, because it is a fucking delightful way to live.
Thatās not to say Dan doesnāt fail, because he does - he gets fired four times in three seasons - itās that the show refuses to depict his failures as failures. Thereās no weight to them - Dan bounces from job to job, and woman to woman, apparently without caring much one way or another. He changes career direction three times between the end of season 5 and the finale, and we get very little rationale for how or why heās made those changes - it doesnāt seem to matter to him, so why should it matter to the show or the audience?
Iāve pointed out several times that it would be very easy - and far more fitting with what had come before - to present his storyline in season 7 as his final act of self-sabotage, that through his narcissism and selfishness he destroys the only relationship he values and his precious career, and ends up with no option except relocating and starting over. Present season 7 as his final descent into something pathetic, and I think it would feel far more in tune with the way Dan had been depicted by Iannucci.
But the writers were so enamoured with Dan āwinningā that even though the structure of that story is present in season 7, they were almost entirely incapable of delivering. The few hints of depth we get are entirely non-textual, coming largely from Reid Scottās performance (which I do think slipped a little in season 7 - but given the scripts he had to work with, I really canāt blame him).
Moreover, what I donāt think the writers ever realised is that their version of Dan is boring. Because he always wins - even when he loses - and because his actions never have consequences that last longer than thirty seconds, it becomes impossible to invest in his story. Whatās the point when the audience already knows how it will turn out? In that sense, Iām really not surprised the writers gave him almost nothing to do in the finale - theyād written themselves into a corner, because it was almost impossible to construct a story for Dan within their self-created limitations that would have a dramatic impact. For instance, a natural endpoint would be to have a scene that illustrated Amy being finally done with him - the problem is that because season 7 Dan doesnāt care about Amy, or any woman, or apparently retain knowledge of his sexual partners after theyāve left his field of visionā¦it drains any scene with him and a woman of anything even approaching meaning.
Bear in mind, fantasy figures arenāt inherently bad - James Bond is a fantasy figure, Peggy Carter is a fantasy figure, and Iād argue even Elizabeth Bennet is one (albeit a very nuanced and carefully constructed one - itās just that transforming Dan from a character who illustrated the fantasyās inadequacies into a straightforward celebration of them was always going to reduce him to incoherence. I donāt care what Mandel claims - I donāt see any way season 4 Dan can become season 7 Dan absent a catastrophic head injury. The guy who ran out of his own party because Amy got upset at a mean comment cannot develop into a man who laughs in her face while telling her heās going to fuck a teenager with the name she wants to give their child.
Season 7 Dan is Roy Moore in a slightly more appealing package - Iannucciās Dan was visibly and vocally disgusted by sexual predators. The two men canāt exist in the same body.
Sex-Psychopath!Dan Is The Product of Bad Writingā¢ļø. Put it on my gravestone.
Jesus fuck I love the tumblr discourse on Mandelās Dan, bc what the hell even was that?
Iām 10 years late, but I really fucking care!
Veep Pacific Rim AU
In response to @sansmerciās comment here are my Veep Pacific Rim thoughts:
It would have to happen when all the characters are adults (if Dan Egan grew up in a world where you only become world famous with a partner, his ambition would take a very different form - and he would probably have at least attempted to maintain a relationship with his brother).
Drift compatibility - for the uninitiated - is when two people are capable of working together physically (anticipating each otherās movements and reactions) and mentally (through a kind of mind-meld thing), which allows them to power giant robots to fight alien monsters. (Pacific Rim fucking rules, but it is not a sensible film).
People are generally most drift compatible with family members - parents and siblings - though it does happen between romantic partners as well. When you enter the drift you learn all your drift partnerās memories (including sexual ones, which can beā¦awkward).
So, there are a few obvious drift compatible pairs in Veep, to my mind:
Dan and Amy are blatantly drifting compatible, but everyone expects them to fall apart, because Amy will have to see into Danās memories (and therefore all his gross behaviour with women) and will be repulsed. Dan however is like a dog with a bone about it, and at last convinces Amy to try it, just once, whereupon they discover two things:
1. Surprising everyone, Amy sees Dan so clearly nothing in his brain comes as a shock to her (except maybe the dog thing - and the fact that he actually did like her, the first time they dated) and so thereās no obstacle from her side.
2. Dan is most effective in a Jaeger when Amy is in charge and bosses him around - which causes him to have a pissy little crisis of masculinity that he only gets over when someone suggests she drift with Bill Erickson instead.
Even after they have drifted together, and both know what the other one wants, Dan and Amy still take a stupidly long time to actually get it on.
Ben and Kent are drift compatible, but constantly argue about strategy. (Sue and Kent might also be compatible, but Sue isnāt letting anyone into her brain, so itās a non-starter).
Selina used to drift with her mother, and has since tried drifting with Andrew, Catherine and Tom James, none of which have really worked (Tom James probably came closest). Gary lives in hope that one day she will choose himā¦which will obviously never happen.
One day, in an emergency, Selina has to drift with Minna Hakinen, and is mortified to discover that they are a perfect match.
Jonah tries to convince Richard to try it with him, after trying and failing to get Dan to be his drift partner - Richard is the only person who can tolerate having Jonah in his brain, but is useless in a jaeger, because heās never fought anyone in his entire life. In desperation, Jonah asks Mike, who considers it for five whole seconds, but Selina talks Mike out of it. (Jonah never tries to drift with a woman, and there is collective agreement that it would not end well).
This is perfect. Also Gary desperately hoping Selina picks him to drift? Lmao š„². Ben & Kent working, but arguing strategy all the time? Excellent. Richard being down to drift with Jonah, but being a useless fighter? LOL.
But yes, Amy and Dan see each other. They might not realize it, but they are their most authentic with each other. So all the ugly parts of Dan arenāt anything surprising to Amy. But still totally see them dragging their feet about finally getting together. Once bitten, twice shy so the song goes.
Anyways, I gotta rewatch PacRim what a fun, silly little movie. But such a great concept for ship fodder.
Love reading all your Damy thoughts!!!
Dan with a conscience
An entire gifset of Dan being an actual human being with recognisable emotional reactions to stimuli and a whole one moral principle, and not a brainless sex psychopath.
Season 7 Dan is, and always will be, a goddamn travesty on just about every level.
I will never apologize for loving Dan Egan even if he could be a shit.
VEEP ⤻ ONE GIFSET PER EPISODE | SEASON ONE EPISODE THREE "CATHERINE"
Such great reactions from everyone here - look at Danās face - or Jonah, or Sue.
These group scenes really vanished in the Mandel years, and they were a huge part of what gave the show its magic.
do you ever start writing a comment on the internet and then think āoh what the fuck am i going on aboutā and delete it
I also enjoy writing an entire paragraph, thinking "you know, I don't actually need to be involved in this conversation," and deleting it
@sansmerci the last one could end your Twitter fights, but you would never LOL
@lyrawhite ok but worst bit is, I actually do that ALL THE TIME!! You donāt know how much restraint I have on the internet ššš I really could be fighting wayyyyy more often š¤£š¤£š¤£
