For the final month of the year, we bring you our annual interview with the creators of the year!
As a way to wrap up the year of 2023, we have conducted a survey of the development staff who work on each of its titles.

- Looking back on the year 2024, what do you remember the most?
Being able to hold the long-awaited virtual concert at the Anime Expo. There were so many entrancing songs, and many people had been asking for a concert for a long time, so we couldn't have asked for a better setting to fulfil it. The smiles on the faces of the local audience were unforgettable. In autumn, we were also able to hold a cheer screening in Japan, which brought the brothers' appeal to even more people. Thanks to all of you who love and support them all!
- What do you want your fans to look forward to in 2025?
Thank you very much for supporting the "Obey Me!" series! Currently, we are looking into how to celebrate their 5th round of birthdays through trial and error. We are also considering measures to commemorate the 5th anniversary, so we hope you will check out our various official socials. Our love for “Obey Me!” and our appreciation for those who support them will never fade away. We hope you will continue to support them with their own personalities!
KANJI OF THE YEAR

We feel that they have become even more loved after many other challenges and collaboration, such as Time Chronicles, Birthday Bash, Fraternal Festivity, Date Invitation Function, Concert, various Accessories, ASMR... etc. From here on forward, the [bond] with them will never be broken. From the bottom of our hearts.
IMO, Solmare could give it a try, but it will become near-impossible to reach the peak like it used to have.
So far, I have seen no cases where an game-based IP becomes successful again after a reboot/rehash of their apps; those apps did not survive for more than 2-3 years.
Examples include:
-the infamous case of Love Live SIF 2 (where the game didn't survive for a year in JP server and 3 months in global server),
-Senjuushi: Rhodoknight (1st game lived for about 1½ years, 2nd game lived for about 2⅓ years)
-From ARGONAVIS (the games are part of their multimedia project. Their 1st game, AAside, only lived for a little more than a year. Their 2nd game, Kimisute, lived for around 9 months. As the game - which is the core of character contents - no longer operates, it was decided that the company will place all other multimedia projects into indefinite hiatus by the end of 2025. There are other factors that lead to the franchise's downfall but that is for another story)
-Otome Yuusha (lived for around 10 months before going into closed maintenance mode for 7 months to renew the game, lived for another 8 months before it got the axe, and shifted their future content to short stories in one of the websites operated under their publisher, Level 5. The short stories were being serialised for about 1 year and 8 months)
There are quite a few more examples not mentioned here, but the gist of it is that -
a new app is unable to garner the same level of success the franchise used to have. Even if Solmare releases a 3rd app, it could only likely attract existing players more than welcoming new ones, which does not help in their revenue for their gaming department.
Another thing to take note of is that, both existing OM apps need their servers to be kept up even without updates. Both apps were outsourced to be developed by another gaming developer company, and maintaining these servers need money. With the sharp decrease in revenue in the upcoming months, who knows how long the servers can be kept up...
For reference, older Solmare otome games like Wizardess Heart, Blood in Roses, Ninja Shadow were developed in-house by Solmare, and their servers are still active and running even after 4+ years from the cease of updates for these games. (I still play Ninja Shadow from time to time and is looking out for revivals of past events I didn't get to participate.)
For another reference, Solmare's gal game 'Moe! Ninja Girls RPG' are likely developed by the same outsourced gaming developer team and it was released back in April 2020. Updates were ceased in April 2021, and the servers were shut down a year later in April 2022.
I believe if there are enough people who keep the game and fandom active, the Obey Me servers won't be shutting down anytime soon, so don't worry too much about it :)
TL;DR having a 3rd app may be unlikely due to possible low revenue and many failed examples of other IPs out there, but the existing OM servers are likely to be up for a long time.
I wanted to write a bit about my experiences and working on the Obey Me! Manga!!! It’d be fun to dive into the process and challenges and just overall experience.

Sooooo I first found out about seven seas licensing it when they announced it on their Twitter. I emailed my project manager and told her that I worked on the game some years ago! (I was translating events and phone messages and updates through an agency. I don’t remember exactly which events I got to do now, but I think I translated the bunny costume cards and event… one of the mammon birthday events… a Christmas one… and many many others!! Getting the OM job was how I was introduced to them!)
So, I was put on the project. I still remembered a lot of rules and regulations about the boys and their speech style and personalities, AND I was still playing Nightbringer at the time, so it wasn’t hard for me to pick this up. (Thank goodness I also kept all of my notes!)
This manga was a lot different from the previous manga work I’ve done…mainly because it’s based on a game and used a lot of text from the game.
There are two routes we can take when we work on works that have previously translated and published content. We can either retranslate everything from scratch, or…we dive into the translated content and try to stick as closely to it as possible.
I always prefer option 2, because in the eyes or the reader/fans, that’s what they’re most familiar with. There are legal issues with that sometimes, so not everyone is given that luxury… but luckily I was able to for this book.
I cracked open my Obey Me! game and diligently went through the first few lessons
I don’t think I’m allowed to show my script, but every time the book used lines from the game, I’d copy it from the game and highlight it, making a comment to the editor about exactly which lesson it’s from so that the editor will know that these are direct lines from the game.
The whole reason I bothered doing this (and it takes way more time pulling lines than translating the text myself btw) is because I thought, as a fan, seeing the familiar text would feel more welcoming. If I was a reader, I’d feel so happy and I might even start comparing the game and the book just to see the same text… because this is the Obey Me world, made for the fans and for the people. If the Japanese audience got to experience the same text as it’s pulled from the game, then the English audience should too…at least, that’s how I felt!
A bit about the translation process… once the script is handed in, I have little to no idea about how much of that script ends up in the final product. So for this title, I had SO MANY NOTES to the editor to tell them about things that can’t be changed (example- The Great Mammon is mammon’s way of addressing himself. Don’t change that!! And there’s mammon’s iconic yell- d’aaaah!). I took a quick flip through volume 1 and I’m really glad the editors kept what needed to be kept and did an absolutely fantastic job with this title! 💕💕💕
I’ve been wanting to write something about OM for a while, but it took a really long time for the company to send me copy of the book 😅
But this is actually because they had very limited copies left… I guess it sold really well?!?! I never had a book with this issue before…
So to end this blog post off, I want to thank all of you for purchasing the book and supporting OM!! Thank you so much for loving this world…and I’m always so honored to be able to bring some of that to the western world.

- Looking back on the year 2023, what do you remember the most?
This year as well, we have had many opportunities to produce merchandise and hold events, and significantly, we have been able to deliver "Obey Me! Nightbringer" to you all. The illustrations of the brothers in tears on our website were heartbreaking, yet we were able to see their smiling faces again thanks to your support for their wounded hearts right after the Celestial War.
- What do you want your fans to look forward to in 2024?

I'd think of headbands of the new Devil's Coast mascot that recently debuted, Awoofa*. Puttin' that on and uploadin' to Devilgram is all over the rage, man!
② It's lunchtime at the amusement park! Which do you prefer, the restaurants or lunch boxes?
Either one of those shall do, but I'd like to buy from one of those carts over there and walk around while eatin'. Isn't that the way to have fun with them as much as we wanna?
③ Your loved one wants to go to a haunted house! Can you lead the way?
BUT OF COURSE???? Why did'cha even bother askin' that???? Huh? Huh???
④ Riding the Ferris Wheel near closing time, you'll do this to the person you love at its highest point……
Hm, I guess I'mma just say what I thought of at the time. Like where's the House of Lamentation, how small the Demon Lord's Castle is, et cetera. It's pointless expecting me to say things that Lucifer or Satan would say. I'm sure they know that too. Oh, maybe I'll ask them if they had a good time with me. That's the most curious thing I wanna know.
*unofficial translation of Garurufa/ガルルファ. No relevant info in the game has been found regarding this new mascot (as of Sep 2023). Note that this should a different mascot from 'Devilcat/デビネコ', a red teddy bear-like creature with horns on its head.
SOLOMON - DATE IN A SUMMER FESTIVAL
➀ Today is a festival date with someone you like! What kind of clothes do you want them to wear?
When in Rome, they tell me to do as the Romans do, so it's gonna be a yukata. Wearing something different from the usual can make someone excited, right? I want them to feel excited too, so I'll probably wear a yukata too.
② It's so crowded that there's a chance of getting separated! What would you do?
It's unthinkable that I'd lose sight of my cute apprentice, though I might pretend that it would be a natural excuse to hold hands with them. But since I think they might see right through me, I might honestly say that I want to hold hands with them (laughs).
③ At a target shooting range, they asked you to get "the one" for them! Do you have what it takes for shooting?
If my partner is looking forward for me to win, I'll win even if the lottery doesn't include a winning ticket. Eh, no magic is allowed? Hmm, even so I'll give it a shot!
④ Watching the fireworks near the festival's end, you'll do this to the person you love whose eyes are shining bright……
Maybe I won't be able to say anything to them because I'd be falling hard for them who is trying their best to watch the fireworks. Maybe deep inside I'd be saying "I'm glad we're able to make good memories".

The good thing is that it's easy for people to find me when we meet. The bad thing is....... It's hard to hide. Actually earlier I was just trying to sneak out of work for a while, and Barbatos found me.......
② What do you think is the reason you grew so tall?
Due to my position, I pay special attention to my posture, so I've always been conscious of keeping my body straight. Thanks to that I became taller....... Perhaps that was how it happened.
③ Who do you prefer, tall people or short people?
Well, I've never cared about someone's height. I think a person's height is a part of who they are, but I don't think it determines their attractiveness. Regardless, I would like to make eye contact while talking with them.
④ What if you could get some ability in exchange for being 30cm (nearly a feet) shorter?
May I have a 30cm tall pudding? Uh but, I would probably be scolded by Barbatos for eating too much of it... But that 30cm pudding is hard to give up... Right, let's have Beelzebub's help to eat it up.

Dear Future Me,
You're probably thinking, "What kind of torture is it to get a letter from your past self"?
That's exactly what I'm thinking right now. I'm dying of embarrassment from writing a letter to my future self.
But I also feel that it will be pretty emotional, so here I am, trying my best to write it.
It might have been too much for me to take so it might have been messed up, but I hope you have stretched out the creases and read it properly.
How's Henry doing? Are those guys as annoying as usual? How is the Ruri-chan multimedia franchise like? Did you become their no.1 fav or something like that?
I’ll still be me even if I'm useless, and in the future I'll probably still be the most gloomy, reclusive otaku, but I’m sure there are a few here and there like them who will accept who I am, so I hope you will have a bit more confidence than I do now.

Read books, play with cats, and make time for yourself. I would definitely want some time that will not disturb me…… Anyway, it’s not unpleasant if it’s ‘them’ that came to disturb, so I wouldn’t mind.
② Tell us something that you think is absolutely not allowed.
Dare to make disrespectful remarks about cats in front of me. I’ll **** and **** your ****.
③ Please tell us your own rules and daily routine that are necessary for an everyday “small happiness.”
It’s about gaining new knowledge. Whether it’s a chapter or a paragraph, it makes me happy to know something I didn’t know before.
④ Do you have a motivational message for those who feel unsure about living “their way”?
The answer to who you are is not something you go somewhere to look for, or someone will tell you. It’s something that can be found within yourself. However, there could a hint found within a book. The words that benefit you will catch your attention, so why don’t you take a look at the bookstore first?

① Please tell us 3 of your own “Rules” that you think is important in your daily life.
Sleeping and waking up early, having three proper meals a day, and light exercising… I guess. Sometimes I make a morning call to 'them’ instead of an alarm clock. I’m looking forward to hearing their voice in the morning, so I ended up waking up earlier than usual.
② Tell us something that you think is absolutely not allowed.
Hmm…… I think there’s a reason for everything, and I can’t think of one in particular… Oh, I can’t forgive someone if they hurt someone I care about. Is it a bit different from 'my own rules’?
③ Please tell us your own rules and daily routine that are necessary for an everyday “small happiness.”
I guess it would be about tasting tea. It’s my habit to delve into something.
For example, what kind of process and how many people are involved in making this quill pen? So, when I drink tea, I just want to relax…… I make a point to spend that kind of time consciously.
④ Do you have a motivational message for those who feel unsure about living “their way”?
I don’t think you need to think too hard. If you choose what you feel comfortable about, then when you look back, you’ll be your 'own way’. If you want me to listen to you, you can come to me anytime.

① Do you have any memorable stories on the topic of 'birthday'?
It was my first birthday since that human came. During that time I got lotsa letters from 'em and everyone else. It's like I was being given one lifetime's worth. I still read 'em from time to time. Ya know, when I spend time with the whole lot of 'em, I felt super duper happy... ah, no, ya ain't hearing nothin'.
② Please tell us about your special 'anniversary'.
No way I'd forget the day I hit it big at the Shadow Races with my 100x payout ticket for the first time I played. Well, t'was beginner's luck after all!
③ Today is an 'anniversary' to celebrate with your loved one. How will you celebrate?
If we're gonna celebrate our anniversary with 'em, we shoulda rent out the Devil's Coast and have lotsa good time together! Oh, by the way, we ain't doin' Hellish Descent and Devil's Mansion! Why, ya ask?... I ain't tellin'!

It's always nice to be spending a relaxing time in a place where no one can disturb us. Aight, let's go out for a ride on my Demonio! I'll look for us a nice cottage. ......Of course, we'll stay the night, right?

ANNIVERSARY - 26th July / The day the Young Master successfully tied his tie by himself
① Do you have any memorable stories on the topic of 'birthday'?
It would be last year's birthday, after thinking about it. Young Master asked "Surely there’s something else you want?", but I was a little troubled because I could not come up with a request that I thought would satisfy him... but for that reason, I have had a wonderful day that is irreplaceable.
(Note: On his '22 birthday event story, it was about experiencing other people's hobbies)
② Please tell us about your special 'anniversary'.
26th of July. The Young Master mastered the plain knot at 19:47 on this day.
He had a bit of trouble with it, so I was deeply moved. There are many more memorable dates related to the Young Master.
③ Today is an 'anniversary' to celebrate with your loved one. How will you celebrate?
If I am spending a special day with that someone, I want to treat them to a Seasonal Demon Flush. It is a rare tea in Devildom that is harvested only once every 500 years, and I have not had it for quite some time. I would love to brew it for them because it has an aroma that none else has.

I make no promises to leave a day available for you next year... but I will try to do so whenever possible. If you feel the same way, I am confident that we will be able to make it happen.

A new title, 'Obey Me! Nightbringer' has finally been announced! We interviewed the development staff about this highly anticipated new title! We will be bringing you the latest information, along with a beautiful opening movie.
What was the inspiration behind the development of the new title 'Obey Me! Nightbringer'?
The goal of developing 'Obey Me!' is to bring smiles to exchange students (the collective term for 'Obey Me! players') through the concept of characters cuddling up like best friends or lovers while blending in real life. 3 years have passed since the release of the English version, and during that time, the world has been changing dramatically. In response to these changes, and to make the characters more accessible, enjoyable, and supportive to exchange students, we decided to develop a large-scale feature and to make this happen, we chose to develop a brand-new app.
What will the 'Obey Me! Nightbringer' game features look like?
Although it will be a while to release more information in the future, but we are planning to introduce several features that will make the characters even more real to exchange students. This will make communication with the characters even more versatile.
What will the plot of 'Obey Me! Nightbringer' be about? And what about the stories from the past?
'Obey Me! Nightbringer' will focus on the story of the brothers right after the Celestial War, which has been highly requested. We aim to make it enjoyable not only for those who have already played 'Obey Me!', but also for those who know 'Obey Me!' from this title. Also, the original 'Obey Me!' app will remain in operation, so it is possible to continue to enjoy the story up to now.
The animation, which was released at the same time as the announcement, showed the brothers as angels. Does this scene have much to do with the main storyline?
The brothers are each conflicted about the difference between who they were when they were angels and who they are now as demons, and often reminisce about their days in the Celestial Realm. You will get to know their trivial stories during their days as angels and scenes of their relationships with other characters at the time.

Looking back on the year 2022, which event do you particularly remember?
It's hard to pick just one, but the Anime Expo was the most memorable project of 2022. It was a dream come true for the entire team, including the voice actors, and it was also a valuable opportunity to see how popular "Obey Me! Although the scale of the "fandom" from Japan was immense, the turnout was so great that our booth was narrowly shut off.
My personal thoughts: I still hope you have an actual, 3D phototaking booth for Anime Festival Asia someday ಥ‿ಥ
Is there anything you would like people to look forward to in 2023, and what messages do you have for them?
We are working on some special projects, which unfortunately we can't share with you yet. For other things such as some activities we have done in the past but haven't been actively doing it this year, who knows we might bring it back? So please look forward to it! To all of our fans, let's continue to make our "dreams" come true together.

① I'm good at ball games with larger balls, like American football and basketball in the human world. However, I'll play any type of sport. I enjoy physical exercise, and it makes my food taste better too. I don't really remember how it all started, but I think Lucifer recommended it to me as a way to relieve stress.
② Mammon. Mammon is a very fast runner. I usually can't beat him in the short-distance race. I can win in the long-distance race, but I think that’s because he gets bored halfway through. I have to eat a lot more food and improve my agility so that I can win in the sprint.
③ It doesn’t matter if they wear 'sporty and bonefish', or 'escargot and sexy'. As long as it’s them, anything they wear looks delicious.
④ The meal after a workout is exceptionally delicious. I'll tell you about a great place to eat on the way home, so won’t you get moving with me?

Is there anyone who can’t do 100 push-ups? Well no, Levi definitely can't.... We played dodgeball the other day. There was a class in RAD where we 'try a sport from the human world'. By the way, the last one standing was Belphie. He didn't want to get hit by the ball anyway.
I thought last year(2020) was the best and last I could think for your bday, but nope! I've got another one for this year (2021)😅😂 maybe this will be the last for real, cuz there's no guarantee that i do this again but it doesn't matter, it's the thoughts that counts 😊
I kinda regret for coming up with layered cookie type, had to do it perfectly... (=_=)9 but it's kinda nice and satisfying.

③ I tend to stare at them to see their reactions, but often they will dart their eyes away from me. I wanted them to look at me, so I kiss their eyelids, their nose, their ears... all sorts of places you can think of, but now they won't even look at me anymore.
