How Chiron making her lie to Percy only deepens that chasm. Her betrayal a cut at Percy’s fatal flaw of loyalty. And the idea of losing another friend after Thalia and Luke is unbearable, but she’s in a lose-lose situation. She might lose him if he goes on the quest but she’s losing him by lying anyway. So she chooses Percy when she jumps in the boat.

And the distance between them begins to close.
