Happy hump day! 🐪 • I thought I’d share a few plugins/apps I really enjoy on my computer that help with getting things done: Noizio - an ambient sound app with tons of different sounds to help you focus or wind down. I love how you can make your own mixes and set different sounds to different volumes. Momentum - this extension needs no introduction. It replaces new tabs on Chrome with beautiful pictures, motivating quotes, and your to-do list to help you focus. Caffeine - a minimalist app for Mac that prevents your screen from shutting down whenever you’re focused and working, or when you’re watching a video and multitasking at the same time. F.lux - another minimal application that adjusts your screen colors to protect your eyes from harsh blue light and to prepare you for bedtime when you’re working late at night. Magnet - a Mac app that allows you to do split screens easily with keyboard shortcuts. I use it everyday, while I’m chilling or when I’m working on presentations. Video Speed Controller - My ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE extension that I legitimately use every single time I watch a video. It makes it possible to change the speed of the HTML videos you’re watching, whether it’s while catching up on your subscriptions on Youtube, watching school-related videos or winding down on Netflix. Leftists, I want y’all to destroy the idea of “laziness” yesterday

Motivation, patience, and energy are limited resources, especially for people with executive dysfunction, mental disabilities, and physical disabilities.

Next time you want to assume you or someone else is being “lazy”, consider the actual reasons behind why there is not enough in them to do the thing.

Left to their own devices, free people are naturally driven to improve their lives and the lives of others,

Right wing arguments’ foundations depends on the assumption that humans are naturally selfish, evil, and “lazy”, and must be controlled by higher powers and punished when they don’t contribute enough (with the insistence that certain groups of people are more deserving of being controlled and punished than others)

Next time you notice you or someone else is struggling to accomplish something, don’t assume “laziness”, instead ask yourself: am I tired? Depleted of patience? In a bad mood? If I keep pushing myself through this, will it really be worth the distress?

Maybe what you need is rest, someone to talk to, mental health support, or to just be safe, with all your needs being met. Maybe we should eliminate “laziness” as an easy explanation and instead consider our needs first.

Some General Reminders:

Start the essay as early as you can manage to. 

It’s okay if you have a few breakdowns while writing said essay. (It’s not ideal and I’m glad if you don’t. However, if you do; there’s nothing wrong with you). Just take. a breather and then keep going. 

Handing in trash is better than getting an incomplete. I really, really mean this. It’s fine if all you could manage was an introduction, three main points with correct references and a conclusion. Often as you start writing you find yourself getting into it and manage far more than you thought you could. 

Also your marker will often have far more sympathy for you if there’s evidence you tried. Always trying will just create good will that you might find yourself needing. (It might not reflect in marks. But it may mean that, somewhere down the line you are granted that politely requested extension you desperately needed. Or perhaps you ask for and are given that basic summary of what you missed while you were totally unable to get out of bed).

And a late deduction is better than an incomplete (However avoid handing things in late, because that 5-20% deduction will kill your soul a little bit).

 Google is good for further personal understanding of a topic. Google Scholar is for essay references.
