something i love about you and i are polar opposites is that the things that you’d typically have as big, relationship-shattering conflicts in romance media are actually handled really chill

like most romances would have some kind of miscommunication plot but suzuki and tani and all the characters communicate very effectively, they talk about what’s bothering them and clear up misunderstandings quickly, and they’re all pretty self-aware and/or actively learning about and addressing their personal struggles to grow

and then when suzuki and tani were nervous about talking to their parents about being in a relationship, instead of having some kind of conflict regarding their partner or having to prove themselves or whatever, their families were just supportive and the tension only really came from the normal feelings being a teenager and getting embarrassed by your mom talking a lot or your dad wearing a hawaiian shirt

there’s no dramatized and unnecessary relationship drama, it’s just a couple of teenagers learning to be both in a relationship, but also just learning how to be people, and i think that’s wonderful
