There is a problem I see here. What’s stopping Adrien from just backing out of the deal anyway? The only leverage his dad had was the ring and he gave it back.

Several things. Sentimentalism and guilt for one. Now that he knows HM is his father, his performance in battle will be affected and his confidence will decrease. Even if he is able to transform, he won’t have the strength of character to go full out against his dad.

He also knows his father is capable of destroying both his civilian life and Chat Noir’s rep (think Copycat) if he wants as an alternate form of leverage and Adrien is afraid of losing too much.

He still lacks the fortitude to stand up to his dad still and is too afraid to lose him (the only parent he has left) if he tells Ladybug the truth. He’s buying himself some time to figure out what to do, peacefully, without hurting either of the two people he loves most.

He also knows his father’s anger can get really bad and he doesn’t want Paris to suffer for that either.
