Casablanca 2016
Test piece
Beginnings of new weaving ft. my very dirty desk, the drawings below are what i’m focused on weaving, shapes/gestures/movement from either walking, cycling or travelling. To me the drawings resemble a personal language and are heavily based off my immediate environments.
Drawings done on my Iphone
Research for new body of work, filmed near my studio along the Thames Path.
I was recently asked to contribute a drawing to Ambit magazine, the image accompanies Christian Brookland’s short text Ball Boy.
I recently taught a drawing workshop for 24 GCSE Art students at King Charles High School in Worcestershire. I wanted the workshop to introduce new methods of drawing to the pupils whilst exploring their current theme on surfaces. The various drawings culminated in handmade booklets.
Two weavings from a while back, the first (yellow & black) was based on designs from the Bauhaus, Anni Albers and Gunta Stolzl in particular. It is a mix of cotton and silk, It was one of my first weavings playing around with designs.
The second was based on drawings from a project at the time and is a mix of crochet yarn and cotton.
These are from a while ago now but are relevant to the new work I’m planning on making which involves weaving, and questioning its importance in a ultra-capitalist society.
I recently went to Barcelona for a couple of days, it was great to have a break and explore the city, it has so many beautiful gardens/green spaces and amazing architecture! Here are a few of my drawings and photos.
A weaving based on the marks of my drawings.
Merino wool and cotton
After graduating one of my main priorities was to find a studio, or at least a space I could continue with my work. Here are a few of my drawings that continued with the theme casablanca.
After a long time off the blog, I’ve finally decided to start using it again - as an online sketchbook. Here are photos from my degree show last year at Camberwell College of Arts.
The work was based off the film casablanca and consisted of a painting, weaving and film.
Experimenting
A very early weaving which was stolen! It was a mix of cotton and wool, exploring the marks from my drawings.
