Always need good news stories
Just some positivity, because we could all use some more of this in our lives.

So Jorf Bulbous has a 600 million dollar deal with the CIA and the WP has a long history of collaboration with intelligence agencies to push their agendas.
everyone talks about “did you put your name in the goblet of fire” being the worst book to movie dialogue fail but lets be real the worst is where hermione answers a question in class and snape calls her an “insufferable know-it-all” and in the book ron is furious and he goes OFF and says “you asked a question and she knows the answer! why ask if you don’t want to be told?” but in the movies they just make him say “he’s got a point, you know” and i’m still mad about it
So, who else here struggled to pick up the “go away, you’re not wanted” social cue as a kid, which has made them so overly cautious as an adult that they end up having cool conversations with cool people but don’t want to be too friendly in case they’re missing the cue, and so end up making those cool people think that you don’t want to be friends with them?
Because, like, this is the Number One Thing that has fucked me up as an adult and I am so grateful to my friends who didn’t stop talking to me while I slowly figured out that, yes, they did actually want to be friends.
YUUUUUUUUP
Sorry if it’s a little cramped- had to make this all fit in ten photos. Hope you guys like it….. and again…. sorry Andrew

That’s it, the Professor is truly the King of Sass
The letter didn’t come from the Nazi party, but from the publishing house which had expressed an interest in the German translation of The Hobbit. Tolkien’s response really is a thing of beauty, though, so it deserves to be quoted in its entirety:
25 July 1938 20 Northmoor Road, Oxford
Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your letter. … I regret that I am not clear as to what you intend by arisch. I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-iranian; as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects. But if I am to understand that you are enquiring whether I am of Jewish origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people. My great-great-grandfather came to England in the eighteenth century from Germany: the main part of my descent is therefore purely English, and I am an English subject - which should be sufficient. I have been accustomed, nonetheless, to regard my German name with pride, and continued to do so throughout the period of the late regrettable war, in which I served in the English army. I cannot, however, forbear to comment that if impertinent and irrelevant inquiries of this sort are to become the rule in matters of literature, then the time is not far distant when a German name will no longer be a source of pride.
Your enquiry is doubtless made in order to comply with the laws of your own country, but that this should be held to apply to the subjects of another state would be improper, even if it had (as it has not) any bearings whatsoever on the merits of my work or its suitability for publication, of which you appear to have satisfied yourselves without reference to my Abstammung.
I trust you will find this reply satisfactory, and remain yours faithfully
J.R.R. Tolkien.
(Letter 30)
The Hobbit wasn’t published in German until 1957.
This might just be the politest “fuck you” ever written.
At age six, I knew exactly what a dollar could buy at the grocery store: a bag of rice or a packet of ramen noodles for each of us or a can and a half of soup — the creamy kind (tomato, mushroom, split pea), not the kind with chunks.
Because a dollar could buy a whole bag of rice, it mattered a lot if you spent it on something that couldn’t be a meal for all of us. It mattered the day my dad bought a candy bar for me and my brother when we were hungry. It mattered enough for my mom to yell in the parking lot, “You spent our last dollar on a candy bar? How could you! How are we going to buy gas to get home? What are we going to eat? That had to last us the rest of the week!”
So I couldn’t have understood the magic in store the first time my dad took me to the public library. I had no framework for it.
We walked up and down the aisles of shelves, and I took a long time deciding on a book. I was tentative, shy about taking something for myself, nervous about picking the right one. I finally held one in my hands and looked up at my dad.
Then my dad said, “You can have more.”
My eyes widened. “I can have more than one? Are you sure?”
I don’t remember the title of the book I was holding, but I’ll never forget the way my dad’s eyes shone when he said, “Katie, you can have as many as you want. No limits.”

Peak 2018 nightmare state is the government telling this to a frightened child.

A landmark climate-change lawsuit brought by young people against the US government can proceed, the Supreme Court said on 2 November. The case, Juliana v. United States, had been scheduled to begin trial on 29 October in Eugene, Oregon, in a federal district court. But those plans were scrapped last month after President Donald Trump’s administration asked the Supreme Court to intervene and dismiss the case.
The plaintiffs, who include 21 people ranging in age from 11 to 22, allege that the government has violated their constitutional rights to life, liberty and property by failing to prevent dangerous climate change. They are asking the district court to order the federal government to prepare a plan that will ensure the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere falls below 350 parts per million by 2100, down from an average of 405 parts per million in 2017.
By contrast, the US Department of Justice argues that “there is no right to ‘a climate system capable of sustaining human life’” — as the Juliana plaintiffs assert.
Bear forever in mind that this is a conservative government, a Republican government, arguing that no one has the right to a livable planet.
This is insane. Surely “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” would cover having a planet capable of sustaining life, no?
Ah, yes, nobody on this planet has the right to living on a planet that can keep them alive. The heck is wrong with you????
freddie mercury saying ‘I think I’m bisexual’ and his fiancée immediately answering with ‘You’re gay’ is literally the epitome of the bisexual experience tho, I almost screamed in the cinema when that scene happened
What should I do if I take accidentally take two birth control pills in the same day?
Someone asked us:
I know what to do in case I miss a birth control pill, but I have the reverse problem: owing to a nap right before pill-time, my brain got confused with regards to what day it is, and I thought I had forgotten “yesterday’s” pill, and so took both Friday’s and Saturday’s at once. What do I do about this? What should I do tomorrow?
Great question! The solution here is pretty simple — if you’ve taken two pills by mistake, take one pill the next day as usual, and continue taking the pills each day until the pack is finished. Start your next pack the following day. So if you took both the “Friday” and “Saturday” pills on Friday, take “Sunday’s” pill on Saturday. This will mean that the start day for next month’s pack will be moved up a day, and there will be no days that you don’t take any pills. In other words, just keep taking one pill a day and you’ll be fine.

today i learned that, when Jared Leto sent Margot Robbie a live rat as a part of his rude, bullshit “method acting” fo Suicide Squad, she was scared but still refused to abandon or harm the rat.
she overcame her initial fear in order to buy him a proper set up and take care of him until she found the rat a reliable owner, who… ended up being Guillermo del Toro for some reason?
so yeah that’s what happened with the Suicide Squad rat
I mean, I’D trust Guillermo del Toro with a rat.
