This April fools day, Google is mocking us. Instead of actually working on a useful, potentially lifesaving tool that could assist those of us living without a sense of smell to better and more safely experience the world around us, they’ve made a silly little video to try to trick people with functioning noses into sniffing their computer screens. They could have been helping me to not burn my dinner for the 40th time. They could have worked on a way to let me know if my milk had gone off, or if there was a gas leak in my house.

On the other hand, one of their suggested scents is Laptop Monitor, which, when you think about it, is a little bit genius.

getting hate for what I thought was a fairly clearly a sarcastic post over 3 years later, kinda accidentally proving Poe’s law.

it might be because the link in the second paragraph doesn’t work any more which basically negates the whole ‘I am in on this as a joke’ bit that’s necessary to demonstrate the faux-ness of the outrage - if I recall, the link offered a ‘scratch and sniff’ preview to all users: I guess if you scratch a laptop monitor it smells like a... laptop monitor.

I didn't get anything less than a distinction semester 1 but I want to make some uni-themed text quilts and this seemed as good a phrase as any to start with (letters derived from the patterns in "Quilt Talk" by Sam Hunter)
