okayyy so - ive wanted to make this post for a while and just after the end of the Rewind cycle feels like the perfect time
ive been on the Queue since the start of it. i was there for the very first stream, in game, and ive been there for every start ever since too. since the concept of the queue was first introduced, i was impressed
i mean - semi controlled anarchy with fun events and a way for everyone to get involved, with a reset every month so the server has something to do every month? the Queue is such a great concept, i feel like there isnt really a server with the same concept and accessibility as this
its also just such a great concept for a sub server - the server doesnt die after two weeks when everyone leaves their two week minecraft phase
obviously theres flaws, its not perfect, but this isnt a post about that
first of all, the challenges. having a mid month challenge gives people a reason to play at the beginning of the month, preparing for the mid month - and having the end closed gives people something to do after the mid month, even tho said people probably have full netherite, getting end city loot is sooo useful
and a final challenge is important too, gives people a reason to work for the more late game things, like totems or gapples. and while it might not be applicable for everyone, the desire to win is also a good motivator!
next, reseting the server every month.. its such an important part of why the queue actually works. having themed cycles is fun, and resetting the server makes it so new players can join and not be horribly behind, but also gives people motivation to work on everything theyd need for challenges, without losing motivation because they did everything towards the beginning of the cycle and theres nothing to do anymore
im also very glad that switching teams has been so limited - its wayyy more fair to have truly random teams, instead of one team being horribly overpowered
i mean, for example citrine this cycle - we didnt really have any people who were known to be builders, we ended up with some great builds but overall we were a team that wasnt really good at any specific thing but we still somehow won a few challenges and overall didnt do terrible!
the variety in challenges is very fun, it gives a chance for people to shine and still do stuff, even if theyre not good at a certain aspect of the game. you can have challenges good for builders who arent good at pvp, or pvpers who arent good at building! and while a significant lot of the challenges have been fighting oriented, im excited to see what comes in the future with more 'peaceful' times
and the Rewind! that was arguably the best cycle! people were motivated to play because of all the challenges and mini events, from what ive seen the player count was higher than usual, ive also seen a bunch of new people join and more older players be on consistantly, which is what you wanna see!
in summary - the queue is suuuch a smart and fun idea and im glad its been going for a whole year now. im excited to see where it goes in the future too, its been a ride but im excited to continue playing every month like i have been
shoutout to Sherb for makin this lil place for us to play minecraft and hang out with friends.. ive gained friends thanks to the queue and im very glad for it :D
