The sunlight falls into her dimly lit home, through the opened door. Hagiwara stands in front of her, long blonde hair falling to the waist and blue uniform too shiny and bright on Asagi's eyes. It hurts. Hagiwara, someone who stands under the sun, who rides under the sun, shiny and beautiful and with nothing to hide.

"Senpai," Hagiwara Chihaya says, concerned and quiet and worried. Careful. It's odd to see her like this, Asagi thinks distantly, the quietness and caution do not suit her. She always has a certain casualness and wildness in her, someone who rides her motorcycle along the wind, causing a storm wherever she goes. Bold and almost brash, ever so unafraid. She is not someone to be treading so carefully, so uncertainly, Asagi thinks.

Then again, the fact she is here at all, knocking on Asagi's door uninvited, perhaps means she's still her usual bold self, doing whatever she wants, Asagi thinks, critically.

i haven't knhpost for a while but this has been on my mind. i do think gyokuyou adores maomao and is rooting for jinmao and their love and genuinely cares for them and wants them to be happy to enjoy their love that's all true, but also at the same time considering maomao's identity and how maomao does not want to be bound to a consort much less empress role and gyokuyou, cheerful and lovely and always smiling gyokuyou who's kind to her servants, observant girl who grew up in a family that taught her what she needed to know about surviving and winning affection, invested in the place she came from, her hometown's economy growth and other such things, who probably reads maomao well enough to understand her not wanting to be a in a relationship and role that bounds her so tight, who probably had some suspicions about jinshi's reluctance for succeeding the emperor and direct confirmation after the Brand Incident - jinmao happening is good because she is their friends and want them to be happy and is rooting for them, but also it means her son's role as the crown prince is more cemented, her son is more likely to be the future emperor when things stay on this track, and her role as the empress firmer, and it affects her hometown, makes the west flourish. gyokuyou has always been a nice enough boss to maomao and i believe she cares for her and wants her to be happy, wants love for her, but at the same time, cheerful and kind as she can be, we saw her family we saw her past we saw how she learned to use smile as a way of surviving, her pretty smile that she knows the power of. she likes jinmao on a personal level but jinmao happening is also politically convenient for her, her son, her family, and both things are true, and i'm not suggesting she is being manipulative, but i don't think she's unaware either. and i just think it's fascinating. it makes me enjoy her character even more. i like her

girlfriend who doesn't ask you if you'd still love her if she was a bug, but if you'd still love her if she were a machine. would you help debug her when something is malfunctioning, carefully observing the malfunction and then try to reproduce that in a local non-production machine (a simplified model of her) and run tests on it to determine what's wrong and then deploying a patch. would you run maintenance routinely. would she be a useful machine to use and would you tell her that if she is. would you refactor her code. would you think she's still her in the codelines have changed but are still designed to produce the same result that one cannot practically tell the difference from the executable. would that still be her if large parts of the code change, changing even the behavior. would you still love her then.
