While I'm connecting less with the story for Death Stranding 2 so far, the cutscenes are undeniably funnier.

I'm not sure they're always supposed to be, and to be fair none have topped the magnificent Princess Beach line yet, but they're still extremely entertaining.

I do wish there was less talking and explaining things--i especially cannot be convinced, even seeing it happen, that dante and lady would be open about their issues--but overall, I liked s2 of dmc!

Vergil's trauma was so fun! The flashback scenes were adorable! Dante was devastated and cried so many times, just for meeee lol

I'm loving death stranding 2 so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing where things go.

I can't help but realize I'm less invested in all the shelter inhabitants so far, though, and at first I brushed it off as the game prioritizing other features, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if that's because all the updates are through social media?

Not all posts seem to be public (although some are--it is interesting to see the other shelters message each other!) but even the personal ones don't tend to be as direct and open as the emails. Not an inaccurate portrayal of social media if that was the intent--connected to more people than ever before, but the bonds aren't as deep.

Death Stranding 2 on pc soon!

I won't play it for a couple weeks yet, but it's the first game in ages I've actually preordered. I'm so excited, i hope it's as good or even better than the first. <3

People do realize that "make Kanji gay" and "make Naoto trans" as "solutions" to their p4 arcs would actually be awful in context to their stories, right...?

I'm all for headcanons, I personally choose to believe that Kanji is bi and Naoto is some flavor of genderqueer. But like. Having those reveals in their stories would send a TERRIBLE message.

Kanji's insecurities are regarding toxic masculinity. He's insecure of people seeing him as lesser for having "girly" tastes and hobbies and he acts out to compensate because he thinks thats manly. Make the reveal that he's gay and that's ok and you've flipped it to a weird "Yeah. Society's right, actually, for a man to like sewing and girly things, he must be gay" message instead.

Naoto's story is sexism in the workplace. She feels she can't be a woman because she won't be treated with the same respect. Make her big reveal be that she is a man all along and it's "Yeah. Society's right, to be taken seriously in the workforce, you must be a man."

The entire game is about seeing through the fog and false leads to find the truth and yet these people see queer themes/imagery and treat it like atlus just went full cowards with all their arcs because the stories weren't what they're initially presented as. Everyone's arcs are presented as one thing and then you need to venture further to see that the initial issue was NOT, actually, the core issue. Its also why you have so many people arguing that "no one changes", because, like, Yukiko not wanting to inherit the inn isn't ACTUALLY about her not wanting to inherit the inn, and they double down on that by having the conclusion "not change" anything. But thats a whole other rant.

As someone whose fave part of Trimax is the Legato fight near the end, I can't say I'm immediately happy about the Wolfwood decision, but Stampede/Stargaze has had some very fun interpretations of the text thus far, so I'm curious to see why they made this decision!

Different interpretations are all well and good, but I'm genuinely fascinated by how many people seem convinced that Knives undeniably got the plants' consent for fusion in Trimax, and that Trigun Stargaze messed up in having Knives' actions be so horrific.

Reading the manga, I never got the impression Knives sought consent from anyone, at all. It's actually pretty major that he violates it constantly for Vash. His initial fusion, when I read it, came across as him using the plants because getting revenge on the humans IS more important to him than saving plants. The plant suffers and everyone nearby is horrified.

We outright see Knives ignore consent from plants regarding the fusion when he tries to merge with Vash and Domina, two plants with total independence that he tries to overwrite by force. Those cases aren't subtle at all. He can draw the regular plants in toward himself, which I think is where the different interpretation comes from, but there's certainly no clear indication he's seeking or recieving consent in doing so. There is also, to be fair, no definite indication that he is not, either.

I absolutely adored how Stampede's finale had him regaling Vash with tales of plant independence (while aiming to strip Vash's away from him and forcefully impregnating the others) and also telling Conrad he was perfectly enacting their plan (when he was actively avoiding wiping Vash's memories of him as the plan required, thus creating the opening for Vash to be freed.) Incredible focus on how Knives' words and actions directly contradict each other, which Elendira is now noticing. So I am not surprised, at all, that studio orange had the same takeaway I did: Knives' fear of humanity and want for revenge triumphs over his want to save the plants, and his speeches of plant freedom only extend as far as the freedom to side with him. Absorbing the plants by force makes sense with this understanding, because his number 1 priority is not saving/freeing the plants, even if he might think that it is.

I guess hot take but I never understood why Spotify is so popular. Its like, the absolute worst music app of all time. Its hardly even functional. The ads are absurdly long and frequent, searching for songs is a pain in the ass. You have to PAY to skip ahead in the Playlist?

This is absolute hell, why does ANYONE use it? And why has it become the defacto music site? Why is it just something that everyone uses? I literally cant use the fucking thing, It has a worse search function than tumblr! You are better off getting your music in any other way. Even youtube is better. Sheeesh!

My favorite feature (aka the one that made me give up on the app entirely and go back to burning CDs) is this: so, you've made a playlist. There's two things I expect when I make a playlist: that you can choose to listen to it in order or shuffled, and that the playlist will contain the songs you put in it.

Neither of these are true unless you pay a premium. The songs will be automatically shuffled, and Spotify's algorithm will decide that a playlist is more a vibe than a list of songs you want to play. It will look at the songs you chose and just throw whatever it wants in there. And there's not a damn thing you can do.

I tried it once and the fact it inserted random songs while limiting my skips pissed me off so much. What an awful experience; I don't trust any company offering a free tier THAT bad to be a service worth giving money to.

I buy my music; i'm aware of alternatives, but most stuff isn't a pain to buy nowadays, either. I listen to the same songs a lot, so its financially cheaper for me to do, and the artists get more from it, too. If anyone else finds themselves listening to the same few albums or songs most the time... consider buying them and scrapping spotify. It might be more expensive upfront if you haven't built up a collection yet, but it'll be cheaper long-term, and you wont be at the whims of a shitty company for your music.

(And honestly, if money's the issue, other commenters have suggested those cheaper alternatives in detail)

I remembered rpg maker was a thing, felt a little nostalgic, thought about what i could make if i ever picked it up again and have been writing a story script like a demon in all my spare time since lmao

Do you pay all that much attention to the more recent directions that the batman (and extended batfam) writers have been dragging everyone?

Because i am SO worried about the post-H2SH (barf) series about Jason which has a writer who's openly said she refuses to engage with any of the previously written Jason content...

Which honestly feels almost batfam fandom-y of her??? I don't know, the art looks great, but i have zero faith that Jason or Helena are going to not be butchered characterwise :(

I'm mostly just sitting here manifesting a psychic protection circle for Gretchen Felker Martin against all of the chodes whose criticisms of whatever the fuck she's writing are going to veer straight into transphobia. or, you know, the even bigger chodes who will do just obvious transphobia but try to sell it as criticism.

I feel crazy because this ask got me curious enough to look into this and in the same interview containing this information about her not engaging with much other red hood comics, there's this entire section (bolded is the interviewer, the rest is Gretchen Felker-Martin):

"People seem to really like Jason Todd, but often – and this is just my assessment – in opposition to any actual comics that he appears to star in. There's this version of the character that seems to live in people's heads that bears only a glancing relationship with the way that the character has often been written. It's hard for me to think of other characters where that's as obvious.

Yeah. I think that we see this relationship between fandom and fictional characters a lot where over time this sense of ownership develops, whether it's through fan fiction or just sort of emotional investment, and also inevitably the ideas that live inside people's heads diverge from what's happening on the page. And so you get a lot of people who have stopped understanding how to read a comic, or a story, and then continually frustrate themselves by trying, what they actually want is probably to create their own work.

And I encourage that! If there's some vision that people want to see executed, they should go and execute it. And although I know this is completely futile, I’d just ask that they understand that I'm intentionally not in conversation with those ideas."

This sounds extremely clear that she is not heading toward any fandom interpretation? In the exact same interview?

The series summary also doesn't sound remotely batfam, but I'm just.... baffled how such a fear came about with how blatant this section is.
