missandei dying in chains, the hound dying in fire, jamie going back to cersei, dany fulfilling a “mad targaryen” expectation

it’s like they’re saying “you can never escape your past, what you’ve been will always be what you are”

and thats a really really terrible message to be sending

David Benioff thinks it’s justifiable that Daenerys went mad after 7 seasons of being a just ruler who freed others from enslavement, NEVER put herself in the position to risk the lives of innocents, and valued the voice of the people, because “ultimately she’s a Targaryen”; yet Jon Snow, ALSO A TARGARYEN, is somehow immune to this predisposed genetic disease because… he’s a man? Say it like it is, David. Just say you don’t care about women and be done with it.

jaime fucking lannister is fundamentally a decent guy who did bad things, acknowledged them, tried to do better, was able to get away from toxic and manipulative relationship and this is what you do to him in the end?? how dare you??

The way D&D romanticize toxic, abusive relationships is deeply disturbing and the message they are sending here is irresponsible. Not that they care. 

It was fine to see Jaime struggle with it while the story progressed. As much as I prefer the book version, I could even get on board with Jaime relapsing a couple of times during the earlier seasons. That was relatively believable. Cersei was not as nasty to him in the show as in the books, and she hadn’t done yet as many vicious things pre-sept. 

But to have Jaime go back after what Cersei did last and this season, with her complete disregard for humankind, her complete lack of respect, trust and confidence in Jaime, after showing to him that her promises of a life together mean nothing if they get in the way of her thirst for power and legacy, after threatening to have him killed and then sending a paid assassin after him, after he broke away, went North to do the right thing, confront his sins, be a better man and die if he must, lay his sister’s plans straight into her enemies’ lap because it was the honourable thing to do, and finally managed to surround himself with people who love him, respect him and allow him to be the man he wants to be… to have Jaime go back after all this in the name of some “addiction” wank and drag the only woman who ever loved him and saw him for the good he could be down with him as collateral damage? 

This is not only shit writing, but a sadistic end where D&D pat themselves on the back for telling people in abusive relationships that no matter what they do, they’ll never be free and never find happiness and purpose anywhere else, and they justify it by calling it “grown up” television. Too bad most of the “grown ups” following this story actually was invested in Jaime’s hard work to become a better man, and wanted to see him succeed, and only bullies and fans that are either immature or too young actually bought into the “born together, die together” nonsense.
