Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow
Paddy Mayne/Eoin McGonigal
An old god turned english teacher and an art teacher with a figure in his dreams; a school trip to an Art Exhibition on the Irish god Neit. What could possibly go wrong?
The first thing Eoin feels is a consuming fear.
Like a sheep staring face to face with a wolf with its teeth all snarled out, waiting for the prey to flounder, show weakness. Anything. Anything that can give an indication that the thing can be destroyed.
Eoin knows this is a dream for what real world would have the sky warped in a blood red hue and thunder breaking through the heavens and scorching the Earth.
Eoin knows this is a dream by the way that crows and ravens emerge from the cracks in the earth in swarms, polluting the sky with their black plumage until the sun is swallowed whole by them.
Eoin knows this is a dream.
Yet, that does not stop the ever consuming fear that constricts his heart, that reduces his ability to breathe null, that makes him shake like a coward.
In the dream , Eoin is flat on his back, his limbs are contorted in a grotesque display , one arm bent at a crook , bone jutting out of his legs , blood seeping his shirt and a fresh powerful pulsing on the side of his cheek.
Above him stands a man, a man small in stature and yet Eoin, even in his dreams knows this thing, for no mortal man could inspire that much fear, is powerful. It is a thing that Eoin was never supposed to encounter and the prospect of him even dreaming such a thing terrifies Eoin.
Has his mind after all the years of Catholic school and guilt created this distorted omnipotent figure that freezes his heart?
The thing looms over, it has no face but it has eyes, eyes that see Eoin.
Eyes that look past Eoin as if he is nothing.
Such eyes , Eoin muses, Such beautiful pale grey blue eyes should not be on the face of something so terrifying.
The Thing moves closer to Eoin, always closer, slowly the thing will bend its head right above Eoin's sternum and feel Eoinâs pulse.
